30+ years of woodworking/boatbuilding, and my only thought when I watch this is, "Damn, she kicks ass! I WISH I could build as well as her!" I have my 3.5 year-old daughter watch your videos and tell her how awesome you are and how smart and tough...and she listens and watches in awe. You are a damn good role model for my little girl, and I thank you. Keep up the awesome work!
Beautiful chair, steam bending wood is an art in of itself. Hopefully you can do more as time goes by. When I built a small jon boat I steam bent the plywood bottom using wet towels I heated in a microwave covering them with plastic sheeting.
I continue to watch and contemplate the necessity of being able to "make" for our selves and others. As a Baptist minister I understand the "laying on of hands" that helps connect a people (proper conduct at all times!) The joy of molding, shaping, scraping, and willing a piece of wood, or any raw material really, into an imagined end product is to connect with God in a way that only a few might understand. I think when I first saw you building the steps in town, and then moving through various projects caught my imagination and relit the love of woodwork that my great-grandfather instilled in me. The dog window on the fence was inspired! Most of all the joy in your narration is key to your reach. Keep up the wonderful work. Blessings!
Of course you can paint it.
I am going through a chair making phase . I recently scraped 100 years of paint off a Windsor chair, this inspired me to make another.
I share your pride and joy😊
Geoff🎉an old bloke from Tasmania
That is awesome! Thank you for Sharing and for watching.
It is so refreshing to see someone so young take such pleasure in learning old skills. I learned woodworking using these tools and while it takes so much longer than with modern tools, I feel the end result is worth it as each piece is formed by skill and sweat.
Your enthusiasm for the task is one of the best things about watching your videos.
The art of wood working with ones hands. It never truly will get old. Always something to make or fix. Thanks April
As I was cleaning up an old bench plane this morning I thought that I hadn't seen you use one. Then this video pops up with the draw knife as well as other primitive wood tools. I liked that a lot!
April Wilkerson...the next host of "The Woodrights Shop"...LOL...Talk about a master at using hand tools. Roy Underhill...so much information, so much talent. Can't believe he's 70...
Cool to see old school craftsmanship. Great vid.
There is a sense of satisfaction when creating a piece of furniture with "old school" tools and methods. I think it's an art form. Nice job!
This was an excellent video. I’m always amazed at building with hand tools like that. You made a beautiful chair.
Greetings from Nicaragua!
There is nothing more beautiful than artisan work.
Your videos are becoming so professional grade... Not that they weren't already great, just that polish one expects from Hollywood production companies.
But at the same time, they don't feel fake or produced, just high quality.
Always glad to see another AW video show up in my feed.
I can tellApril you realy enjoyed that craft of the chair it nice to see young people learning the old craft. You Rock.
Fantastic job April, you nailed it 👍👍. Sets nice and looks great. Thanks for sharing with us.Fred.
Such great info... I’m planning a spindle back on a live edge bench and this vid showed me how to do it
Magic is the right word. Beautiful chair. Nicely made video.
Glad you found personal satisfaction in wood working , in tune with the sounds of trade too ! Kudos .
You do nice work !
What an interesting process! Thank you for taking us along on your Adventures.
I love love using quality tools that are sharp. The feeling and sound (as you mentioned in the story) is so satisfying 😁
This was such a pleasure to watch. 😊

Great job, April, the chair looks amazing.
Your chair looks amazing April!
The laser hack for the compound hole drilling is great!
It was fun watching this, as I have already seen Anne's video in which you also appear. There is something magical about seeing a piece of furniture appear out of a lump of wood. Stay safe.
Very cool, very satisfying, would love to learn to make one
April the Bodger! Well done! Yes it is indeed a pleasure to watch you build your chair and it's even more satisfying to do it myself. Decades ago a friend to let me cut down a hickory in his woodlot and I build a couple Shaker ladderbacks. I also worked in an antique shop in RI and did a lot of that kind of work and repair. If you can find it, the book "Make a Chair from a Tree" by John Alexander was my inspiration. I hope you get to make a whole set for the dining room.
Wow, great job!!! I love the style and color...
Wow! That's functional art! Thanks for sharing , stay safe! Beach, NC
So satisfying to watch you work and learn and work and learn. . .
Amazing! I bet you have many more chairs that you want to make now. I love that it is mostly made with hand tools.
Super Video
Dankeschön fürs Zeigen
Love the video, thanks for the awesome experience. I have been looking at registering for the class once the things started getting back to normal.
Gotta agree with the only hand-tools thing you said. I recently did a project with only hand tools, and there is some sort of magic to the appreciation of it while you work.
Thanks for sharing that, looks fun to make!
A beautiful Lady really can make a beautiful Chair. Keep up the fine work and making great videos! God bless!

This is awesome!👍🏼
Have missed your fairly frequent collabs, but understood much when you announced your new shop. Bravo! Hope, though, that the collabs with Anne and so many others continue- they have been good for you and them both; as an official, popcorn eating consumer, I can tell you they have been great from my side of the popcorn bowl! When will we see you at Anne's new "work in progress" ?
Nice colour wow !
Beautifully done
I remember seeing this on your Instagram! it looks soooo good!

As always, great job!
I just watched the "Building an Heirloom" and I thought I had seen you working with Greg before...so now two heirlooms..Nice!!
Potato? Never heard of such a thing! Nice video, looks like lots of fun! One chair down, five matching chairs to follow?
Old world craftsmanship with Great Tools like a FRO & HOLDFAST, a cameo by Anne of All Trades and seeing April with her hair down! (When it was safe to do so). Pardon the compliment, but April you look so beautiful! I appreciate your skills and inspiration! Still working on my own shop organization/work flow & I am getting there, but April is one of the best at setting up/organizing a shop! Very enjoyable project & video production! Thanks for sharing! :)
LINDO TRABALHO , Parabéns.
Nice job !!!!
Cadeira muito bonito...
Quanta abilidade da jovem mulher.
Parabéns
So awesome!
very cool new perspective on the craft! :)
Chair drilling angle can be done with a jig or guide. The key is to have a marker on the jig that allows it to be positioned in relation to the surface being drilled.
You never fail to amaze me, April.
April you always make beautiful plans 🥰
!Que bonito fazendo tudo do zero. Isso deve ser valorizado!

Also thanks for the walnut axe head, I added it to my collection. Was that done on a CNC???
Beautiful job April, it looks fantastic.👌
So was it a relief or an anticlimax getting back to your more usual power/shop tools? I can imagine the hand tools are more satisfying to work with.......... and, probably, less dangerous.
Cheers for now,
Dougie.
