    Way back in the late 70's my friend who was a machinest was messing with the idea of doing this and we did a 2 barrel on a Chevrolet station wagon and nobody could believe the results.I wish I could remember what we used for the bushing for the fix.It was still at smooth idle 15 years later.😎😎

      Hi Gregory, Thanks for the comment, and welcome to the channel. Sorry it took so long to get back to you. this comment went into my held for review queue and I missed it. The bushing kit did a pretty good job. These were either brass or bronze. I was concerned about the screws in the throttle blades coming out since I ground off the stakes. As a result, I picked up a new carb. The old one still needs the secondary shaft done but I don't have the right sized kit so it'll get done once I have another engine to throw it on.

      If I recall I believe we were using 22 caliber shell casings for the throttle shaft bushings. I was the only person fixing 2 barrel carburetor throttle shafts in those days and we always had a shelf full of rebuilt carburetors and mine always ran great. I did carburetors for farm equipment and everyone I knew their spraying equipment ran awesome.

      @@gregorypierce6703 That's an awesome use of a spent 22 shell. I would have never though to use spent brass and I have a ton of it. I miss the days of fixing things instead of buying something new. My stepdad was a major influence on me wanting to work on classic cars and he fixed everything he could. I just with I had a better handle on fixing rather than replacing. I am working on it though. =)

      Hey Jonathan! Thanks for the comment, and welcome to the channel! That was a brand new edelbrock 1406. I didn't want to risk the throttle valve screws dropping into the engine, and the secondary blades needed to be done as well. I didn't have new screws to stake properly or the right size bushings for the secondary throttle blades so I went with new and hopefully reliable.

      Hello Rob. Welcome to the channel and thanks for the feedback. I got several comments on the music in a few of my older videos. For the more recent ones, it's still there but the volume is turned WAY down.

    I would like to discuss with you how you went about getting the throttle pressure lever (I think some people call it kickdown, but mopar people tend to not like it called a kickdown) setup with your 4 barrel conversion.

    • @MontsweagGarage
      @MontsweagGarage  10 місяців тому

      @dakotasclassiccars7246 Hello and welcome to the channel! Thanks for the comment. I am not particular to what you call it, and I am not necessarily MOPAR specific. My first project vehicle was almost a '68 C-10 but someone beat me to it. As to the kickdown, my solution started with using the throttle bracket from a 340 4bbl. It puts the throttle cable and the back half of the kickdown linkage at the correct angles. There is also a 4bbl piece specifically for the front half of the kickdown linkage but they are not a common piece and I did not find anyone who makes them. I ended up using the slotted piece that was on my original 2bbl setup. Initially it hit the screw that holds the throttle cable down when I went to WOT, but a little heat and some bending got it to clear without completely throwing the geometry off. I just had to make the adjustable lower arm a little longer. If I had to do it again, I would go with a kickdown cable. That is what the 360 is getting. If you want to discuss it in more detail, fell free to hit me up at montsweaggarage@outlook.com.

    good video, I have never done that. How much did the kit cost?

    • @MontsweagGarage
      @MontsweagGarage  2 роки тому

      It was around $40. That includes the router bit and 8 bushings. I only needed 2 for this repair though.

    What size are thoese bushings 5/16 or 3/8 ? need to do the same thing on my edelbrock 1406

    • @MontsweagGarage
      @MontsweagGarage  Рік тому

      @DAPwny. Sorry for the delay in response, I just saw your post. For the Carter, the primaries are 3/8 and the secondaries are 5/16. I added links to both in the video description.

    I plan to do the same thing to my edelbrock carb how’s lock tight holding up on the screws

    • @MontsweagGarage
      @MontsweagGarage  Рік тому

      I ended up replacing the.carter with a new edelbrock 1406. Didn't want to risk the screws coming out and falling into the engine. And as the shaft for the secondary was also leaking, it runs much better with the 1406. Have 20in of vacuum now vice the 17-18 I was seeing with the Carter.
