The pretty ones that are dating friendly, it feels too extravagent to wear it on an ordinary day, you know.
while i try to make it a point to wear them on occasions, it never gets worn eventually.
so it stays in my wardrobe till i can't fit them.

Some dress/office shirts, nicer pants and shoes but this is "OK" as we still had 100% home office. They get use starting next month when we have to return to office for 40%. I used home office specifically to wear some of the older clothes, which were not office friendly, so i got final use of them and could throw them away after they were done.

The question reminds me of the mindset that most from the "great depression" era generation ended up having. It's a spirit/mindset of poverty. Wear/use the old, broken things (clothes, dishes, furniture etc.) and save the new things for special occasions only.

When clothes get ripped or get holes, I wear them around the house. As the rips and holes get worse, they are what I wear when mowing the grass or doing yard work or working on the car. Then after that they become rags.

I am about to embark on a significant reduction in old, abandoned clothes in both my personal clothes closet and a bunch stuffed into storage. Most of these clothes are at least two sizes ago for me and even if I become that size again, the clothes will no longer be suitable for me. And still, it is hard to admit "defeat", that I chose poorly the first time but I do believe that I am making space for new and better energy in my life. Maybe I'll cry a little and then feel better.

Taking your worry to it’s termination for things spoke to me. Ruining good clothes mindset began in my childhood because clothing was defined as good clothes and old clothes. This episode spoke to me.

The fear comes from attachment - putting more value on the financial cost of the item than on the joy of using it. Change your mindset or stop buying expensive stuff, there are always cheaper equivalents that you won’t be afraid to use/wear.

Asking “would I buy this (old thing or new thing) now” helps.
Ask you’re self, does the new thing even support what you want to accomplish, for others.
Being you (being of purpose) is so much more rewarding than “showing you” ( advertising your worthiness) .

Wow this episode comes in timely as i am decluttering my old clothes -
I used to see clothes as a posession,
got worked up when i gave away a dress which i just bought but ended up giving because i had no feel for it
While i try to set a timeline for my clothes - sometimes i feel that the ones that are in my wardrobe are not worn deserve to be given to someone who needs it more than me
My dad on the other hand thinks im throwing my clothes away when i am just passing it on to the people who truly needs it such as the under developed countries which constantly floods such as Philipines
I understand that he is mad for me wasting the money on such clothes but sometimes your style changes - and is pointless to keep clothes that you cant wear anymore -
Although the sentimental ones like event shirts are easier for me to donate as i don't see much value in them as they belong to the past.
I am getting good at this decluttering clothes although i am trying to not bring in new clothes, been purchasing preloved clothes from my friends who wear their items once, so is not like i am spending on first hand items i too believe in zero waste living.
But man, i need to hear this to get through the process of sorting them out after decluttering, is an exhausting process decluttering clothes. I can't take a day; i require a few weeks to get through different clothes such as dresses, shorts so on and so forth. Maybe is better to be a male sometimes.

Thank you for making this video, one of the hardest things I find to declutter is clothing, because I hold a attachment to the item. What is the worst that could happen when I get rid of that item? That I lose the identity of what I once had/was back then when I wore it.

    All good advice!
Can also start a meditation practice, in no time useless things like excessive fear guilt grief anger & pride will drop away.
If You don't have the dicipline for that yet, start a breathing practice, the heart is the centre that generates courage(opposite of fear) and compassion...
Heart centre is governed by the air element...
Breathe more deeply and slowly to strengthen the heart & health and thus have less fear.
    All the best!

I just drove through Ojai to Santa Paula on hyw 150 a couple of weeks ago in the rain; man, the bulldozers were working overtime to keep the mudslides from covering the roads. BTW: I got caught out camping in Santa Paula canyon at a place called Big Cone Campground During the flood of 1969; yeah we Boy Scouts had to be rescued. The floods of 69 were devastating. We left everything behind; I don't miss the stuff I lost.

David: The same thing happens to me, but I invented a rule for me, and it goes like this. I can let go os one piece of old clothing every weekend, that way I have one week to adjust, cause if I´m used to use my old clothes, getting rind of all of them would be a shock and maybe I´d feel unconfortable or finding nothing to wear, but id I have at least a week to adjust, then I can realize there is no big problem. Hope It was understandable and if possible, useful.

I have a question. I have been moving towards a more intentionally minimal lifestyle where I just do not depend on things to satisfy my soul and I was wondering, how do we influence people around us to consider doing the same? How do I show my kids, who are 8 and 4, that things are not the drive of our lives? I know you won't prescribe anything to me but some words of wisdom would be awesome. Thanks guys!

My mum put some red patent shoes away in a drawer to be worn for best because my parents didn't have a lot of money. Also the shoes were slightly too big but the next time I saw them they were way too small. I think my mum still has the shoes in the drawer completely unworn and I'm 43 and a UK size 6 🤣

I have different categories of clothes; jammie clothes for when I first get up and drink coffee, work clothes for doing work around the house, and running errand clothes for when I need to leave the house and go to the grocery store or pick up necessities. So, it's okay to have different clothes for different activites.

@@universaltruth2025, wow, your comment just made me realize that my mom was very particular about what clothes I wore and when! I had school clothes that I had to change out of as soon as I got home from school so that they didn't get ruined; I was to put on play clothes. Pajamas were for sleeping and not to be worn outside of my bedroom in the morning. I could wear pajamas in the evenings before bedtime, with a robe on, to watch a TV show or two with family.

    • @universaltruth2025
      @universaltruth2025 Рік тому +1

@@lauriecampbell1378 I think our childhood plays a role. I had the opposite experience. My mother paid very little attention to my clothes or shoes - so I’d be wearing the same pair of brown school shoes day in day out regardless of the occasion, be it school, at home, to church, with dresses, pants etc. Then she started buying me boyish looking clothes or just giving me badly fitting hand me downs from my cousins. If I complained my family would basically infer I was being vain & frivolous. In reality both my parents were particular about their own clothes - just not mine or my brothers. But my brother didn’t care. I became really OCD about clothes & shoes as a result as I always felt badly dressed as a child. So I’m really particular about what outfits go with what occasion and what shoes and its become a bit of a problem as I spend too much & have far too many pairs of shoes.

My shopping and dressing song was Madonnas “Dress You Up with My Love” from the time I became independent and could buy own things at 17… the clothes “made the woman” in my mind and a shopping addiction was born. I always justified by saying jokingly (what’s been my dream, actually…) that “I’m going to have enough to open an antique and thrift boutique someday!” and by having nice things to give freely along the way to whomever needed. However, even having given much away - closets, bags and bins full remain…and with each threadbare or not piece, an experiential memory or future expectation weighs. Having done (and still doing…lol) the work of peeling back the layers to welcome and free what’s been underneath - I’ve been able to have more fun with giving and excited for final preps to the “dream come true” part : ) You all and your channel is truly inspiring - thank you so much for sharing 🙏💛🤓
