I lost my car valeting business because of these cheapo merchants! A lot of my customers used to have their cars done by me with my top grade service and then kept cancelling me when it was next due. When I saw them next, they complained that I was too expensive for 'just a car clean!' Some of them had lease cars & wondered why they were being charged extra upon handover!😂
Here is Switzerland and a lot of mainland Europe, we are not allowed to wash our cars at home as the water drains off straight into the river system. So we have to use drive through or DIY "wash box" car washes (JetWash) where the water is captured and filtered before being disposed of. I've never seen a hand wash "splash and scratch" in Germany or Switzerland. We have these soft wash drive-throughs, using micro-fibre brushes. Which in fairness don't seem too bad when it comes to results. I put my older daily through those during the winter. My newer weekend car has been handwashed from new at the local wash box. They have a snow foam lance and cold tap where I can fill my two buckets for a proper handwash, then de-ionised water for the rinse and a hand dry with a towel and Sonax BSD quick detailer. The two hour weekly wash is my little bit of therapy :)
Most people dont care about the car paint work hence the cheap car washes. Only a select few of us car and detail our own cars
The most important things to maintain on a car are: good tyres, good brakes and good windscreen wipers. Everything else just depends on your particular hobby or interests in your life.
To be fair. Dealerships don’t really care about wash swirls and marring when handing cars back or trade in. Obvious scratches and damage 100%. All the garages I’ve been to haven’t got a scooby doo about detailing cars. Even 100k Audi’s are cleaned with 1 bucket
Great advice. i have my car ceramic coated, and i wash it once a week using the same method each time. I can't believe how much damage was done by the car wash. it's why i always do it myself
Automated car washes need to avoided like the plague lol. Both of my cars have only been hand washed by myself or a hand wash car wash place. I was really hurting as I saw you going through that wash. Thanks for such a great educational video.
I go past one of those car wash firms every day, and there is always a queue, unbelievable. Why people go to them is beyond me. My car is ceramic coated and it only takes me a couple of hours a week to keep on top of it. At the end of the day you spend you're hard earned cash on a nice car, so why not look after it, and not waste money taking it to those drive throughs, who just ruin it. Great video young man.
And it's not just cheap and cheerful bangers queuing there's too of the range Audi's, BMW's and Range Rovers queued up .... I follow one young chap local to me who totally renovated the paint work on a car with a full paint correction including wet sanding the lot, the owner spent upwards of £700-£800 on it and it was back 12 months later f*cked as he'd been using the local scratch and shine .... I could have cried... The saddest part is that the chap offers a safe wash service to his client base at a bloody cracking price
Not everyone has a spare couple hours a week. Not everyone has the spare cash to be spending on ceramic coating/detailing. Not everyone has a driveway to wash their own cars. Genuinely unbelievable how you fail to realise this. It’s almost as if you live in your own little world 😂
How is it "unbelievable" to you that a £5-£10 car wash that takes 5 minutes max to have your car fully cleaned, a shock to have a huge queue? I totally agree with what you’re saying, definitely a scratch and shine and is easy to wash yourself, but I look at it from the opposing point of view who doesn’t have the same "luxuries" or time as us who can spend a couple hours to wash our car and buy products. Some people don’t have access to a driveway, don’t have the extra £ to buy different washing products, no time. So an easy £10 car wash that gives u a completely clean car in 5 mins without having to do any manual labour is obviously a huge attraction. I also agree that a lot of the cars are luxury cars too, but they clearly don’t care about their paintwork and rather the short term of their car because most likely they’ll be trading it in after 3 years for a brand new one. We would obviously think this since we’re car guys but for others it’s just a wash.
@@km1462 .... For the majority of us your cars are the second most expensive item you ever buy after your house ... Most mobile valeting companies will offer a basic safe wash for £20-£25 and a quick interior hoover added will add £5 or £10 even getting this once a month is preferable to a scratch and shine
I have a motability car as I'm disabled. As I have to change my car every three years I pay £12 for it to be washed as I cannot do it myself. When I was as young as you and fully mobile I. Did it myself. I would like to think my 24 plate car will still look OK when I have to change it after 3 years.
I have never, and will never, ever wash any of my cars with a machine.
I am the only person allowed to clean my cars and I ALWAYS do it by hand.
I've never used one of these car washes I do it myself and always will, when you think about how many cars have been washed by those cloths and all the dirt and grit they have in them you may as well have it washed with sand .
One of these car washes destroyed my alloys, but that’s not the only reason I never use them. Look at the prices they charge and the amount of staff working….can you honestly say those blokes are getting paid minimum wage? Of course they aren’t, it’s blatant modern day slavery and dodgy practices, but for some reason the authorities avoid looking at them….i wonder why?🤔
Nice upload 😊 I hope people watching this notice how long it took to complete the ceramic coating process and can now justify why it’s coast what it cost.
Mate very good video, hopefully more people see what these places are like and why a good pro detailer can be worth the money both for a good ceramic coating and maintenance washes.
Really well covered well done
I’ve never been one and never will forgive the pun , just do it yourself and save £520 a year spend a hundred quid on some good products and remember
1. Snow foam
2 powerwash off
3. Snow foam
4 2 bucket method (to be safe I use 3 , 3rd for wheels )
Using the applied snow foam as a lubricant
5 powerwash off
6. Towel pad dry using a dry aid
I can do this in under 20 mins and all my cars remain unmarked
These places are awful and the machine car washes are worse .keep spreading the word
So has it scratched the ceramic coating ? and a vid on how you fix it would be awesome thanks
I was thinking the same.
Obviously you remove the coating and then re-apply it
Where did you buy those 4D number plates on that Audi ?
I’m interested in purchasing thank you
My goodness, this was hard to take, I take my hat off to you putting in such a huge effort, knowing what the result would be, holy cow 😢😢😢
Love the video and you’re the first detailer I’ve seen taking care to even tape up the windows, excellent. I note you pointed out the swirl marks on the black, can I ask did you actually get these out because you didn’t show that part after the polish? Finally, can I ask which stubby gun do you use? I’m looking to get one but unsure which brand to get.
I had my car detailed and ceramic coating in July last year.
Only bits of bird shit now and then which I wipe off after we have rain and had time to soak.
Now in beginning of February still not had car washed.
I’m apprehensive about having it washed but I know of a local wash station where they only apply foam and rinse with water before drying off by a cloth which I think is the safest method to keep the coating intact.
What’s your view ?
Do it yourself mate, plenty of tips n tricks on UA-cam and you don’t have to spend a fortune on kit
Boss video mate. Next you should take a car with a brand new paint job there on the hottest day of the year 😅
Thank you!
That definitely would be interesting!
Definitely should and make sure car is black!
My other half took her car to a local hand car wash, they dropped the sponge on the floor then went straight back on the car and completely ruined the drivers door scratching was horrific better leaving it dirty... much safer. (Or taking it somewhere who does it properly, or do it yourself)
That's a frequent occurrence with them, along with throwing the mitts into the same dirty vat of water that the brushes are in.
A new local scratch and shine opened a few years back at my local garage, they used the old petrol forecourt, and as I was waiting on my MOT I watched them set up.... Not a sponge to seen anywhere and loads of lovely microfibre or noodle wash mitts and pads etc ....they even rinsed them all out in a big bucket of water and then threw them on the ground and stood on them to squeeze the water out.... I kid you not
@petersmith7126 there's one near me by a local supermarket that uses an old pub frontage. I used to sit in my car watching all their silly antics (including reversing a car over their own pressure washer lance!) Occasionally, the guy on the lance would wash the suds off a car and the spray landed on my car, theoretically giving my car a free wash, especially if it was raining slightly!🚙🌊
Another benefit of using a detailer is that you're not funding illegal immigration anymore than we're legally forced into, and the detailer will actually pay tax, declare his income (mostly anyway 😂)and contribute to societyinsteadto taking from it....
Very good point.
Jesus that was a painful watch 😢. I would never as a car guy send my car through one of them cheap car washes not even my daily would get that treatment
I paid £1K for a 5 year package! Full detail, 3 stage paint correction, then coated. Car was away for a week. Washed correctly, used all the correct products, 2 bucket system, new wash mit regular blar blar blar & I still got swirl marks. Not worth the money IMO. This was on a one owner 26K miles imported R32 in black, looked stunning for about 2 weeks. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
I had my car coated with Infinity Wax Synery 2 last April and over the winter months when I cant be bothered to wash it myself I take it to my local garage and spray the wheels with wheel cleaner and the bottom of the car with Bilt Hamber Surfex and jet wash it off and its good to go .... Obviously not up to a contact wash but it gets the worst of the salt and grit of the car
thanks, now i know what not to do on my brand new golf
Thing is 99.999% of people don’t care and don’t even know what a swirl mark is. The same amount of people won’t notice if your car has had a £500-£600 detail.
I get the point of the video but surely no one in their right mind that’s gone to cost of such a detail wouldn’t use these type of car washes.
There are a huge amount of people who are not in their right minds Jimmy. Fortunately like minded guys like yourself and Me , care and do the research .
@ surely any decent detailer drills it into the client not to use these car washes? The mind boggles
TFR and a dirty sponge. What a recipe for disaster.
Quite an eye opener that, they're worse than I thought.
They use truck wash. That’s why.
I stopped using hand car washes now the price has gone up to £20 for a wash and vac. Not even good value anymore
I wash my own car. Never trust these car wash places!
Look, I never trust that those car washes and when I took it to the car wash then damaged my wheels and I just clean my own car now
Wash your own cars and you dont send money abroad
Folks must be nuts be taking there car's to one of these scratch & shine places🤦🏻♂️
Probably an unpopular post but that never stopped me 😂 So I gathered two things from this:
Firstly ceramic coating offers virtually no protection, it just makes it easier to clean (for your detailer)
Secondly, having a detailer maintain your car over the duration of a lease will cost way more than a correction at the end of it.
I would never use these cheap car washes either but you do get what you pay for and you did not go into any detail about how you thought the damage was actually caused.
I agree, PPF would probably be a better idea than ceramic coating the car
Shocking but i see it everyday im having to da alot more cars now adays . Ppl have no clue happy to buy 15k car but moan detailing it cost to much then go cheap wash and rip car to bits
It’s even worse when you see a supercar in there!! More money than sense
@highpressurevaleting haha seen that too.
@highpressurevaleting what that coating like to use never try it
You pays your money.....
You don't m8 had many cars returned no one has picked up on paint work I don't see why you pay some one to coat your car at £500 then pay 40or 50 quid to wash it get my car valeted once a week and around 3 car washes for under 30 quid a week machine polished once a year car looks spotless
no one walks about with a torch on your car I think you guys are daft but everyone to there own 😅
My car is spotless and probably does have swirls in the paint. I want a clean car but I don’t want to spend two hours a week polishing it. £9 for a wash all in and it’s done and dusted in 10 minutes. If the car is three years or so old when you chop it in the dealer couldn’t care less as long as there is no body damage, they certainly do not give you thousands more if you have polished it. The dealer will expect wear and tear. I thought the idea of ceramic coating was to protect the car and save your paint from the likes of washing it etc. I can appreciate the work that goes into a detailed wash but in reality most people don’t have £50 upwards for a wash every week or want to be outside in the cold doing it themselves.
People are lazy now back in the 70s everyone done there cars
And done less damage with fairy washing up liquid, big yellow sponge and a chamois to dry it .... Windowleen on the glass and Mr Pledge on the interior plastic and vinyl seats
@@petersmith7126 As a teenager in 70s cleaned family/friends cars bucket with wash/wax sponge, chamois and chrome cleaner as you say very basic. Use of a hose later was a real bonus(with one of those jubilee type fittings to a household tap!)and for interior some stuff called Decosol guey type cleaner applied and washed off with a wet cloth. There were no fancy products available to the public then. The first time I came across dedicated products were from Autosmart in the mid 80s when where i worked I had to valet a fleet of managers cars for a local firm. To me these products were a revelation in upgrading the quality of your job. Now its gone from valeting to detailing with an explosion of materials and know-how. However like everything else it gets too complicated and after watching many videos I think it takes the enjoyment out of a basic task and you start to "worry" about damaging the paintwork, which is wrong.
Why anyone uses these places is beyond me i see new 30 grand plus cars in them every day i shout out of the window getting your new car scratched
People don’t know any different. My boss has always used them in his Bentleys and Ferraris etc up until recently when they blow his PPF off his 250k Lamborghini Urus 🤣
Tbf to him no one cares and he’s never had issues selling any off them because of a few swirls.
