If you want get a Akita just remember. First you wille be disappointed, becouse Akitas are stubborn like cats, they can ignore you. But after that you will discover special bond betwen Akita and you. I grew up with dogs, sometimes we had 2-3 dogs in my family home. I allways have contact with dogs in my childhood, but that what is connecting me with my akita is somethig different its hard to describe that. Its special bond betwen me and my akita.

I now have my second Akita, this time a female dog who is eight years old now. I was never disappointed with her or the male dog I had before her. I must admit that this dog is much easier to handle, can walk of leach and is not agressive towards other dogs like the male dog I owned before, besides some she dislikes, as these dogs dislike her as well. Socializing is very important to this breed.

I love my Akita. We named him Hiro. He's currently seven months old. Akita's can be very stubborn in the beginning, but little by little you'll see how well they learn and how smart they are. They are also very protective of those they consider their family.

I have a very well bred 8 year old Japanese Akita Inu whose parents came from a well known breeder in Japan. I got her as a 3 month old puppy. Unfortunately, she developed Sebaceous Adenitis which is increasingly showing up in this breed. She is one of the best dogs I've ever had...intelligent, affectionate, intuitive, never has destroyed anything. But, this is a very high maintenance, shedding, somewhat fragile dog. Get pet insurance. She has a labrador companion and is never alone. She also gets at least two long walks a day which is why she is so calm inside. Research and being honest about your ability to give this breed what it needs is paramount!

@alex. I’m a Doctor and I have Japanese Doctor and Veterinary friends in Tokyo. I’ll tell you the deepest secrets Japanese are usually too embarrassed to say out loud. #1. Every day, many times gently hold your Akita and gently look at their eyes and tell them out loud; “ I love you! I promise to love you forever and ever. I will never ever leave you. I will give you a Happy life!” Akita are super smart and psychic. They can read your mind! The other most important thing is don’t leave them alone. Make them part of your indoor life too. Let them sleep with you and your kinds. Guaranteed 100% everybody will sleep deeper and happier! Next, bring them to work with you! Yes. My Handsome Boy comes with us to our clinic everyday. Patients love him! He greets them and hugs them, and the patients just melt! He is the ultimate therapy dog

I got my boy from a rescue centre he was 4 yrs old. I couldnt agree more with what you say. I suffer with mental health issues and he has been a total saviour. I must have an exception to the breed because he has never shown any aggression what so ever in the 5 yrs hes been with me. He doesnt leaave my side while im in a depressive episode but when im good he does his own thing. He has a strong love for cats and when im at a friends house who has 6 cats I have never needed to worry about how he will respond to them. He is happy to cuddle them and lick them clean. Hhe is ever so gentle around children and is often the first to be by their side when they take a tumble with a whine and a lick as if to say 'dont worry I'm here to help'. I also have a Schipperke and he is so protective of her in a silent and non aggressive way it's almost unbelievable without seeing him in action. I just wish I had found him earlier in his life because he would of made a great pat dog.

I would say that while they're super cute, intelligent and calm, they can also be unruly and stubborn, because of that they're not really a "first timer" pet, especially if no adults are gonna supervise the education and training of the dog. I can actually speak from experience in my family, my brother in law adopted a beautiful female Akita, she was lovable and sweet as any dog can be but grew way too protective of my sister, wary of strangers and finally aggressive to anyone that could pose to her as a danger to her family and territory... in fear that she could eventually harm the other dogs on the house or the young children she was sent to the countryside, my sister cried buckets but Yukiko, as was her name, needed a proper education and a proper trainer.

Akitas need a dominant owner.. "nice" / "passive" people who are pushovers when it comes to discipline will be seen as subordinates that need to be protected / controlled. It's easily one of the hardest breeds to train and they usually have very dominant characteristics. God help the person who gets an alpha male Akita.

    • @tossanavandenbroeke8396
      @tossanavandenbroeke8396 5 років тому +5

I owned a alpha male Akita before. I don't consider myself to be a very dominant person, but I never had any issues with my dog nor with people visiting me. Strange dogs were a different matter sometimes I have to admit. Every dog needs to be trained by consistent owners. Tiny cute looking dogs like the Maltezer or chihuahua can become little terrorists in your household because their owners underestimate their character and let them get away with dominant behaviour you would never accept from a large breed. @@retiredshitposter1062

Joe when they’re about 10 months or a year, that is the toughest period, when they’re in puberty, they will test you but you must stay firm and consistent. Once that passes and they’re mature , they are the best dogs ever. Wouldn’t want any other breed. Akita is my first dog but as they say “once an akita, always an akita” :-)

It is difficult to describe the full nature of the akita. The nature of the Akita is largely formed from the stimuli that the Akita experiences, all it starts with the breeder and continues with the owner.

A slicker brush may be used during grooming sessions during normal times. However, the Japanese Akitainu blows its undercoat twice a year. Profusely. So expect tufts of hair everywhere during that time. A bath, followed by cold forced air dryer and a comb out will help expedite the natural process of blowing coat. Nails should be kept trimmed using clippers or a nail grinder. Regular teeth brushing and maintaining ear cleanliness are essential not just for appearance but for health. To maintain healthy and luxurious coats, gentle brushing every few days is recommended (depending on activities); for long coats, more frequent brushing will help to avoid matting.

Irene AvOcAdO Start introducing him to many types of people. Old, young, maybe even random passer-buyers as you walk your dog daily. Keep a close eye on your dog's body language. Your dog may not speak but it’s body can be easily read as long as long as you are attentive to it when it is interacting with others. Try clicker training your dog and reward him for his good behavior. If he’s not behaving right, don’t scold him but quickly take him out of the interaction as continuing to let him misbehave will only let him think that it is okay.

as long as there is a shelter, access to water, and fed twice a day, ant dog can be an outside dog. personally my dogs are family to me and for that reason aloud to be inside. with me. Most dogs prefer being close to there people.

Akita Inu doesn't require regular baths. That's a load of crap. They clean themselves and don't smell. My akita only had a bath twice in 8 years and that was only because she had been rolling in something nasty.

In order to be partner with Akitainu, you should be the boss. Proper education, which means teaching him who is at the higher hierarchy is very important,
    like wolf clan.
If education fails, it would be danger for your family, but once succeeds, it will show its loyalty to you and your family.
Be careful of their bite, it crushes beef bone easily. They're powerful enough to pull away kid.

How old is he? My akita used to bark at every car and every person who went past my house but he stopped when he hit 7 months; he started to mature and also got used to hearing loud noises. It takes time but make sure you reassure them and NEVER tell them off for barking - that is their job, they are doing the only thing they know which is guarding and protecting you! They are just learning what is and isn't dangerous and you have to be extremely patient and say, "it's ok" for 7-8-9 months maybe, until they learn.

I wanted a dog to take out and play with, to let of lead on the beach, play catch, My local dogs trust, uk, only showed me an 8 month old Akita bitch, I was a first time owner, I knew very little about dogs, She was gourgages If I had know I would not have taken her on, Their own web site says, should not be given to 1st time owners, . If you take on an Akita , unless you are able to train them from a very young age , you will always walk them on your own. Mine is great with people, children, but not with other dogs, She will defend aggressively against off lead attacking small yappy things, but she never attacks. After a year + she is the best, she is 2 years in 10 days, Just a thought ,
