Shannon is not going to allow Larry Bird to whiteball Lebron James in any poll, I can tell you _that,_ sir.
You already know Skip’s answer
And Shannon’s
Skip would argue that Sean lee is better than both of them when he’s healthy and 100%
right

trha2222 Lol your troll. The best all around basketball player ever is lebron. Bird wouldnt even be able to guard him. Hes way to strong. And btw lebron is a better passer than bird.
ok skip, who is better lebron or jose calderon.
Skip: Well you know Jose had a 90% free throw shooting year. He was a baaaad man. I'm going with Jose for sure
Hahaha you killed me with that one bro
Jaret Meno Lebron is more athletic then bird he is a better rebounder bird just focused more on rebounding ur going based off numbers. ask your self let’s say u yourself shoot a miss and it’s between lbj n bird to get the miss no1 else who gets it?
that would actually be his argument too
WWWWWW
Jaret Meno bruh 😂 u got me in stitches but you are on point
Bird won three consecutive MVPs in the Jordan and Magic era.. that is enough of an argument how great Larry Bird was.
Lebron went back to back mvps twice 4>3
@@c0brazzszn458 LeBron is never clutch. He can't take pressure. Do you have any idea how star-studded the league was back in bird's time??? How tough the east was especially?? Just compare compare that with the cup cake era where LeBron is playing. 6 finals losses in the cupcake era. He would have lost 2 more especially if Ray allen had missed that clutch shot. Just think. Cake walk draw, cupcake era, one of the worst finals record, easily could have been the worst too... I don't understand the point of comparison. LeBron is nowhere near Jordan or Larry
Arjun T LeBron>Larry. U guys wanna call this era the cupcake era than sure. But do you even know what Illegal Defense was? Illegal Defense was a rule during Birds and Jordans time that did not allow defenders to get off their man unless they were double teaming. This allowed Jordan and Bird to score better off of an iso which they were good at. Defenders these days can shrug of their man and babysit in the paint until LeBron comes so that they can stop him, and LeBron is still 50%+ from the paint. Also, the league back then was totaling at 300 more personal fouls than now which allowed players to get to the line.
Arjun T if you wanna talk about clutch than ur still clutch, saying flat out that LeBron is not clutch is just ignorant. Since LeBron came into the league nobody has made more game tying and go ahead shots in the final 24 seconds, his 44% on these shots. Jump shots floaters layups he can score from anywhere in the clutch. In 10 years from now the list for greatest SFs all time will be:
1. LeBron James
2. Kevin Durant/ Giannis (if you consider him to be a SF)
3. KD/ Giannis
4. Larry Bird
I wanna hear your response (with at least so form of stats, as you just flat out say stuff)
Arjun T also LeBron had 4 lopsided finals, the first one where he had one all star against a stacked Spurs team, against the Warriors when Love and Kyrie were injured, and the 2 finals with KD.
Bird was 3x all defensive. He wasn't a scrub defensibly
but bron by far defense
He was a crazy smart team defender.
Keep putting out good vids bro!
Bird was 10x more clutch than lebum
@@sandybeck1358 bron still got more mvps fmvps and rings so
The fact that Larry averaged 10 rebounds a game for his whole career is unbelievable, though.
Im not trying to discredit him for that but keep in mind he was extremely tall compared to a lot of small forwards of that time.
Yeah, but the game was littered with real centers back then too.
Mihir29
Also, Bird played with McHale and Parrish as his 4 & 5, and still averaged 10 rebounds...let that sink in while you're not trying to discredit him.
Averaging 10 boards a game for a finesse wing is a ton even at 6'9, especially being that it was only his 3rd priority for his team behind points & assists. Karl Malone averaged that same figure as a 6'9 bruising power forward. Shawn Marion who also played the small forward position, was 6'7 but could jump out of the building, was the most dominating rebounding small forward of his era, who had the luxury to focus much more exclusively on rebounding than Bird, playing his whole prime on teams w/o a center, averaged 9 boards a game for his career. Scottie Pippen, who was a stat stuffing son-of-a-gun for the 90s w/ a 7'4 wingspan, scored moderately but wasn't a volume scorer, never made it to 10 boards a game for a season, and Bird did it for a career. I actually don't know of anyone else who wasn't either a power forward or center that averaged 10 boards a game for their career? And even the power forwards or centers that did, it was at least their 2nd priority.
Considering he had McHale and Parish on the team and still got those rebounds is impressive.
Remember when Larry Bird won the 3 pt contest in 88 and did not even take off his warm up shirt.........

Lebron is 24th in win shares in about 1100 games.
Defensive win shares are hard to measure from the past
Sam Theobald he didn't say he can't defend, he just said LeBron is a better defender
Sam Theobald Defensive win shares are one of the worst stats because it groups you and the players on the floor. Steph Curry was top 10 in defensive win shares this year. But on ball defense and even off ball LeBron is easily better. Larry couldn't guard or lock down players the way LeBron did.

H Bizzle to be fair, you kinda knew what Shannon was gonna say as well
H Bizzle True. His takes have gotten more and more meaningless over time, since he *has* to oppose and root for certain players no matter what. Not even entertaining in the sense that he'd have good jokes or something. Just a worn down record.
As to Shannon... yeah, you knew his take in this case, and he's massively rooting for LBJ... But the difference is, most would probably agree with him and take LBJ over Larry, as well as consider LBJ to be the best player atm (contrary to Skip's stance of KD).
ntnnot that is also true. and with Sharpe I can say he is objective when he give his opinion he will praise LeBron and he will also say some negative things to keep it balanced but when it comes to skip its always lopsided
TtRed76 but it's not the same Sharpe always give the statistical facts.. and skip will know the facts as well but still find a way to bash LeBron
H Bizzle 🎻🎻🎻
LeBron better. I respect Bird tho.
Forrest Mann strength and athleticism, passing and playmaking, basketball IQ, defensive capability (back when lebron actually tried on defense every night) finishing around the rim, handling the ball, honestly the only thing larry was really better at was shooting, which of course he knocks lebron off in that category no questions asked, and rebounding as well (even though he's not grabbing 11 boards a game over the leapers in today's NBA) listen, larry is a BEAST and he's in my top 6 or 7 all time when I make the lists, but you have to recognize that right now you are watching a man who is at worst the 2nd best player to ever touch a basketball in Lebron James, if larry was as athletic and had the longevity of lebron then I'd actually go with larry, but he wasn't so I can't
The Kyrie Irving totally not biased at all
LBJ is better but i'll pick Bird if its crunch time. Larry Legend is definitely more clutch than LBJ
Jonzy Bon I wouldn't say definently more clutch. But i guess bird is a bit more clutch than lbj
The Kyrie Irving How? The only thing Larry Bird is better at is shooting. LeBron is a better passer, rebounder, more athletic, higher iq, better defender, and honestly can score easier than Larry can. Larry is top 10 all-time for sure, but LeBron is better.

Bird did one thing that always makes me love rewatching him. He put himself on the line for the whole team in a way I don't think many do. I remember someone showing me this clip where he was injured, Celtics started losing, and he ran back out there. Another thing is, Larry stayed. Larry didn't flip flop. He stayed with Boston. And I like that about him.
Darksky1001able what was there to leave, he was given a great coach, Kevin McHale, Robert Parish, Denis Johnson, Cedric Maxwell, Bill Walton, whether it was their production or just veteran experience he was gifted a talented team.
Larry played in a stronger era, with fewer teams. Larry stayed loyal to one team, and didn't go looking for championships. Lebron did go looking for championships and won the same amount that Larry did. If I had to pick one of them for one winner takes all game, I'd choose Larry. Larry made his mark on the game with his ability to rise in the clutch. I can't say that about Lebron. Lebron played in a different NBA than Larry did. Expansion teams galore. I watch Lebron and see him not getting back on defense, I would choose Larry for his heart and hustle, and his knack in crunchtime. Great players both though. Last? I think the term "GOAT" is just used for arguing. Ir means nothing, no one can say who the GOAT is. No one will ever know who the GOAT is, actually.

Wilt was even more athletic than LBJ - taller, stronger, better defender.
LBJ 's defense is overrated. This video does a good job showing some of it.
It is a close debate if Larry was better:
I'll take Larry and so would Reggie Miller-
Think of all the failures in the clutch Lebron has had (lost 5 Finals... I don't think Larry would let Dirk and JJ Barrea's team to beat his)
Bird was a better shooter when the game was on the line - Lebron you can't trust to hit free throws..... In the final seconds, most people might trust Ray ALlen and Kyrie to hit the game-winning shot over Lebron.
There is no shooter - maybe not even Jordan - more trustworthy than Larry.

I’m a huge Lebron fan but with how much more athletic he is then bird I can’t argue how great Larry bird really is. He played in a era where you could play way more physical. It’s more amazing to me how Larry could beat you simply with amazing shooting and out playing other players. Imagine shooting almost 90% from the free throw line for your whole career. What Lebron did last year in the Finals added support to Larry Bird being the better player to have on your time.
- The Question isn't "Who is stronger, taller and faster".
- The Question is "Who was the better basketball player".
Lebron not only almost got swept last year - but he messed up in a key game where he didn't score at all when his team was getting outscored 11-0 to end the game.
Larry Bird's rookie year: 61 wins (the year bf Larry joined the team: 29 wins

@Shawn Ritze Larry stated in his book that he knew his teammates and that he truly trusted them to look for that pass at any time. In fact Larry was the guy who like the media was trying to show how LeBron was thinking moves ahead in 2016 against the Warriors. Larry stated he would look for the best option in that split second and did that option... But he knew the opponent opposite him that defended him and knew how to exploit that into scoring opportunity for himself or his teammates. He even weighed the chances taking a 3 or making a pass inside and the odds of his teammate Making the basket and getting a foul on the play. He was a cerebral assassin.

Matthew Hysler Actually, you don’t know basketball.
Compare their career stats, then remember that Bird spent four-years playing college ball, unlike James who came in right out of high school.
Bird played 11 seasons, the last three seasons were spent playing with a broken back. He still put up All Star caliber numbers.
He averaged 3 more rebounds per game than Lebron, which is astounding considering he played alongside Robert Parish and Kevin McHale virtually his whole career.
Bird played in a more competitive conference during the league’s most competitive era, and in spite of having less physical tools and less time spent in the league, he has the same amount of rings as Lebron and their career stats are virtually the same.

Your argument is based on one shot? Why don't you go back and see how many LeBron deferred to someone else. Larry was "Clutch."
yourbudjerry no shame in finding the better shot. Jordan did it to. That’s smart basketball. You aren’t a winner if you take a smothered fade away instead of hitting a teammate for a better shot
You are correct, no shame in it at all. My point is - Jordan and Bird wanted that ball for the last second shot. They were "CLUTCH", they knew it and they wanted to take that shot. If LBJ didn't defer so much on the last shot over his career, I'd like him more. With all that speed, athletic ability, and size, all of which he has in abundance, I don't see him deferring often because his best option is to take a smothered fadeaway. Jordan and Bird both made a living on fadeaways, btw.
I'm a Lakers fan from the 80's an hands down Larry Bird!
Funny lebron will be a higher ranking at the end of his career
Takable Pond1339 not really. He's pretty much cemented where he is now. He's known as a superstar who needed super-teams to win all of his rings. He's great but he's not Larry Legend great. If Larry Bird played in today's game he would win multiple MVPs and Championships. He retired early and still has the same amount of 🏆 as LBJ. LBJ is known to jump ship to chase a ring. Bird is known as a Celtic for life. Total difference in both mentalities as well. Bird was known as a killer on the court and known to make the right play on the court. Bron is known as a passive player who makes the right play but doesn't have that killer instinct.

Takable Pond1339 all you did was name his accolades and your bias towards him. That doesn't really mean anything lol. Bird finished with the same team and retired early due to health reasons and is still matches Bron in rings. Bird is the better SF to most NBA players. I get that you're a LBJ lover but the people who played the game say otherwise lol. LBJ is Top 10 all time but that's about it. You could put Steph Curry above LBJ if you wanted to due to the fact that he's won all of his rings off of LBJ and he's the player that made Golden State a dynasty and changed the way Basketball is played. Both were great and both accomplished a lot but Bird was the better basketball player with a bad body to work with.

Its crazy how underrated Bird has become. If you ask the general fan of today they act like he was Kyle Korver or something. Peak Bird was Dirk with court vision. If you want one of the greatest basketball minds to ever play the game, a mentally and physically tough as nails competitor, and a guy who was determined to squash whatever opponent was in front of him, go with Larry.
AMEN to that ☝️
This is actually a good argument. People forget how amazing Bird was in his prime. Skillwise Bird is easily better, Lebron's amazing athleticism and durability is the only reason he might be better than Larry. You put Lebon's mind in Larry's body and Lebron might not even make the hall of fame. You put Larry's mind in Lebron's body and Larry would have been the undisputed GOAT and would have won at least 7 rings.
LeBron's better period LeBron is a better jump shooter he can get to the rim easier better dunker passer defender the only thing Larry has over LeBron is the 3 pointers but LeBron has impressively improved in that category
Xavier Vega and if you put Lebron on those Celtics teams it would be many many rings! You put Larry on the cavs team and he’s a Kevin love for the timberwolves
@@jaysmooth1495 you give larry bird, lebron's PEDs, larry plays 5 more seasons
lebron a better shooter in no way
Not really fair to say because Lebron had to work for a lot of his athleticism. Just like Bird had to work for his shooting. Obviously Lebron had a lot of natural athleticism but Bird also had a lot of natural skill so you can't really judge it as you have. If Larry was in Lebron's body maybe that natural shot and motion wouldn't be the same. Same thing for Lebron in Larry's body maybe he would have lost some of his natural athleticism. Some people are naturally better shooters and some are naturally better athletes. You see Lebron spending millions a year and thousands of hours making sure his body is healthy and explosive, it's not like he just wakes up and jumps 40+ inches a night. I can guarantee Bird didn't spend nearly as much time or money on his body so obviously his body wasn't going to be very explosive and healthy which is his fault.
I think it’s close very similar players and I couldn’t chose which one I would take.
Bird was one of the all time great defenders. People think otherwise just because he was a slow white guy.
Lmmfao...oh you weren't kidding.
Larry Bird was the single greatest clutch shooter in NBA history, with Jerry West right behind him. It is important to note that the rules and physicality of play were different during his career and scoring was not as easy. It is also important to note that the 3-point line did not even exist when Bird was in high school and college, so most of his scoring came from inside the arc, due to the nature of the game at that time, which makes it all the more impressive. If he had been more predisposed to taking three pointers, under the current rules, he would have scored 40 a night, no doubt. The same is true of "Pistol" Pete Maravich. In fact, I believe someone actually charted Pete's shots and concluded that he should have averaged something like 57 points a game instead of the 44 points he actually averaged one year.
www.tigerdroppings.com/rant/lsu-sports/espns-peter-burns-says-pete-maravich-would-have-avg-57-ppg-with-3-pt-line/61847802/
I am 41 and I know a lot of the younger folks on here have not seen some of the older guys, like Bird, but he was truly something to behold. With that being said, I like that the new generation is defending their guy! LeBron is a physical oddity, a once in a generation player with size, strength and intelligence. The bottom line is, you can't lose by picking either one of the guys, it's a win-win situation. You could also make the case that LeBron is not only the best small forward of all time, but the best player of all time. His impact on the game is undeniable.
On a side note, the de facto position for most folks is that Jordan is the greatest of all time. I'd strongly urge that you look at the careers of some of these guys:
1) Kareem - still #1 all time scorer, has 6 titles (like Jordan), has a couple titles at UCLA in college and the even banned he dunk shot for nearly a decade because of his usage. BTW, he had the sky hook that was the single most deadly scoring weapon to ever exist in the NBA.
2) Wilt Chamberalin - scored 100 points in a game, do I need to say any more?
3) Biill Russell - Has 11 NBA rings.
4) Dr. J - his ABA stats, the first five years of his career, are not included in his NBA averages. If you include them, he is right at the top of the list.
5) Magic and Bird - they redefined the way the game was played and saved the NBA in te 80s.
West is always overlooked.. He was unstoppable.. anywhere he got the ball it was two bounces and pull up... Swish.. Left, right, could defend.. The Logo..
You can add John Havelcheck to that list. He would have really benefited from the 3 point line but they didn't have it when he played. With that said, game on the line I'm taking Kobe. That killer instinct was insane.
Nicely put...
The Bird Magic rivalry was epic. We'll never see that again. And to see them come out on the other side as true friends really shows the great respect these guys had for each other
