  • Let's chat about the maximum amount you can get paid out for pregnancy related disability and PFL claims through the EDD in the state of California. We'll discuss the maximum weekly benefit and how long you'll get paid for. We will also take a look at how to calculate your payout and income thresholds for maxing out your benefit.
As an expecting mom in the state of California its important to know how many weeks of disability insurance you'll get before and after birth and also for your PFL bonding claim thereafter.
Here is a link to the calculator that I mention in the video: edd.ca.gov/en/...

So if for example after using the estimated sdi calculator it states 1,000 weekly payment, but sdi is biweekly.. would I be receiving 2,000 for my sdi check?

Hi there, I filed for disability 3 weeks before my due date and gave birth on day 8. Do I have to do anything else on my EDD claim other than the update delivery information form?

Nope! You’ll just need to file for pfl once disability ends they usually mail out a reminder as well!

EDD says not to file earlier than 9 days AFTER your claim “starts”… is that correct? Confused since you said to file at 35 wks

Yes it does say that online but I’ve always filed the day after my leave has started

Thanks for providing this helpful information. I have a question regarding extending Disability leave beyond the initial 6 or 8 weeks due to a medical condition. Would I need to fill out another application, or can I simply ask my doctor to assist with the extension? Additionally, is there a specific timeline for requesting an extension before reaching the point where I can no longer apply?

I would ask your doctor and see if they can anwser that question and I would get a request submitted asap to extend your current claim. Worse case scenario you have to apply for a new claim

Hi love your videos. My question is kind complicated. I’m over 6 months pregnant, but decided to moving back to MN to stay with family rather than be alone in Ca here. So I’ll stop working soon. Means 2 months without income before I can apply for my short term disability. I’m kind worried if no paid leave for 2 months will affect my application or not. ( not quitting just stop working). Please help. I looked online a lot but haven’t found any answers yet. 😢😢
