      That was one of the most powerful moments in the entire show so far because of how well they built up and played up how contentious Roy and Jaime's feelings are for one another and in that moment none of that mattered! God, typing this is getting me emotional! Also, it was super awesome that you were able to join in on the Avatar talk! I still need to catch up on your videos!

    Mike Dean (the real life ref playing himself in the match) is SUCH a fun cameo for people who follow the premier league, cause he’s VERY hated by supporters of many different teams, so him saying “I’ve been called worse” when Ted apologized for what Nate said, definitely goes for real life as well

      I was watching this episode here in the US with some friends of mine who follow the PL (games are available on NBC here). Before I could get, "Is that who I think it is?" out of my mouth, they were already collapsing in laughter. "Yeah! He *has* been called worse! By me!!" one said.

      @@Omn1Media , yeah! Even though the show's not really about soccer at all, there are so many "Easter Eggs" for those of us that love the game. Brendan Hunt (co-writer, also portrays "Coach Beard") is a huge fan, I think he's responsible for many of them.

    By this point, Beard is having a huge crisis of loyalty. He owes everything to Ted (which is pretty obvious by now, but you'll learn more later), but he also knows the responsibilities of coaching. And right now, he doesn't think Ted is doing what a coach should. Lots of internal turmoil there

      One of the best/most powerful scenes in TL. What makes the scene even more intense (for me) is when George Harrison's "Beware of Darkness" kicks in. Poignant and beautiful song. My favorite GH tune. The choice and placement of music in this series is as brilliant as the writing, acting and directing.

    This is the episode that really confirmed for me that a lot of this show is about fathers. The impact of fathers on their children - youth or adult, the impact of fatherhood on a man, plus the different types of fatherhood - absent fathers, present fathers, loving fathers, fathers who fail their spouses or children, father figures.
    Jaime, Sam, Nate, Roy, Higgins, Ted.. even Rebecca. It’s quite powerful.
    This episode is such a turning point in so many ways. A tough one but also with so many important moments.

    Really been waiting for this one! The locker room scene is the best one in the series I think. I think what the scene reveals that it's not a victory moment when Jamie punches his dad. It's just tragic and makes him feel all the worse. Phil Dunster really plays it beautifully, you can see how the whole situation just tears him apart. The only thing that makes anything better is Roy's support. That's the victory moment. And I think that's a very rare thing to portray on tv, especially in a show geared towards men.

  • @laughinggravyuk

    "Do I have that correct?" - Unfortunately not. The League and the FA Cup are 2 completely independent competitions that run concurrently. The FA Cup is a knockout competition from the start ie playoffs - you lose, you're out, so ANYONE can win it, and ALL divisions are in the mix. You just need to win 7 matches, you win the Cup - no League division, position or results count towards the Cup. The League is all 20 teams in the specific division playing each other home and away, so 38 matches, 3 points for a win, 1 point for a Draw, highest number of points after 38 matches wins the League. No play offs to win the League after those 38 matches - purely on points. Divisions are hierarchical rather than geographical, so win the top Division is the top prize in UK football. In this situation, If Richmond win their division, they're back into the Top division, but this Cup loss means absolutely nothing to their promotion chances.

    • @scottredding7357
      @scottredding7357 7 місяців тому +2

      For teams in the top four divisions, it’s five-seven wins to reach the cup final. For teams outside the top four divisions, in theory, the lowest teams to enter would need to win 13 matches to get to the cup final. My local team lost back in August in the very first round of qualifying.

    One of my favorite parts of writing in this episode that i found out recently is when Beard says hes going to shake it off by himself, Ted can sense something is off and with his past about his dad, he tells beard its his turn for coffee i believe it is. its been a little while since i watched it but i know for sure he gives him something to do the next day to prevent that from happening.

    I've never heard anybody talked about this but I have some sort of a theory..... You know how at the beginning of season 2 when Jamie is being interviewed after being voted off of lust conquers all he tells the hosts something along the lines of oh well when I figured out George Harrison died I decided I need to start living life for meself ..

Specifically, pretty much every other video I have watched on this particular episode, when it comes to the opinions on the relationship between Rebecca and Sam, everybody's primary is the boss/employee relationship over the age difference. The loss just means that Richmond is eliminated from the FA Cup (it was the semi-final so they were just one win away from chance to win it). It's a separate, in-season tournment that has no bearing on the league standings (or promotion/relegation), but it is completely awesome because it involves every level of English football so you get really small, lower division clubs matched up against the big boys. The NBA is actually trying to do something similar this season with their in-season tournament, but of course, it only involves NBA teams so it's not nearly as cool or exciting. In an earlier episode, before they played Tottenham (Spurs), Coach Lasso refers to it as a "March Madness" style tourney that runs over the course of the season. That's about the best comparison, as you can end up with great "Cinderella Stories" with smaller clubs advancing to the later rounds. The semis and the final are always played at Wembley Stadium in London, and the trophy is one of the oldest in all of world football.

  • @byronabrahams871
    @byronabrahams871 7 місяців тому +3

    Wembley Stadium is a special place for footballers and fans. Even the new Wembley, which doesn't have the enormous history of the old. It's still known as the Home of Football. It's the spiritual birthplace of the game, and for a team like Richmond to even just play there is an enormous occasion. It's not the home ground for any club. It only hosts a few cup games a year. So, for that to be the place where this moment happened for Jamie... Well, it fit perfectly.
