Jamie said he did the TV show after he heard George Harrison had died and when Roy embraces him after he punched his dad the music was a Harrison song.
Plus Ted's fathers suicide explains the line Ted says to Trent Crimm in the second episode of season 1 that its tough to grow up without someone believing in you.
this episode is perfect, one of the more obscure reasons being that the match was a plot device and not the pt. you felt their loss thru Jamie's dad being a waste of a human life.
Man City was a sore spot last season cz of Jamie finally learning to be a team player, but on the other team, and it circled back to Man City to explain why Jamie is how he is. cz his dad was in that episode, too. yelling at him for passing, even tho they won.
this is a perfect storytelling circle.
The actor they have playing Jamie's dad is phenomenal at how good he is at making you hate him. Little things like him supporting the club that Jamie's no longer at, getting every last thing he can out of his son to make himself look like "the big man," the way he "playfully" pretends to fight with Jamie when you can tell by Jamie's demeanor that there have been instances when it's happened for real.
Every time I watch this scene I cry. From the uneasiness of Jamie's interaction with his dad, the look of the scared little boy on Jamie's face after he hits his dad, Jamie's flinch when Roy goes to hug him because he's worried he's going to get hit, and Jamie just breaking down in Roy's arms - the footballer that Jamie looked up to as a kid being a better father to him than his real dad.
It gets me every time.
Also, having binged them over the last couple of hours, I love your guys reactions! Can't wait to watch them when Season 3 comes out!
