  • My Premier Project Plans: paskmakes.com/...
    My Free Plans: paskmakes.com/...
    The vice is finished and it works fantastic, I couldn't be happier. As you may have seen in the first video the mechanism works wonderfully and just as well when fitted to the finished vice.
    This is my 50th video and also the longest (I hope it isn't too long). I really can't believe I've uploaded that many, it feels like I'm still finding my feet!!
    The whole project worked out very well with few hiccups. The only thing that concerned me before going into the build was whether I would be able to get the guide rails parallel but I needn't have worried as they turned out fine. So if you do make one for yourself this is the main point to get right. There is a little binding at one point but minimal and I'm certain that it'll bed in. I don't want to dwell on it as it really is nothing but it's near the end of the travel and it will be rare that I ever open the vice that far anyhow.
    I forgot to mention the capacity with jaws open fully, it's 40cm or 15 3/4", that was determined by the length of threaded rod I had. If the vice wasn't happy at that size opening I would've cut the rod and guide rails shorter but it seems fine as is.
    As always I'm happy to answer any questions.

    I bought this for my friend for his birthday as we just moved into a new house and he finally has room for a workshop. The bench was very easy to set up ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh They center support is a little difficult to snap in and out of place at first but at least then we know the bench is secure. It was a pleasant surprise when we saw it came with clamps. I apparently missed that in the description. My friend loves the versatility of the bench. Great starter bench for his workshop and easily transportable all over our property. I wish the bench was a little taller but the other features of the bench more than make up for that.

    I love how this turned out. That quick release design really is elegant. So many of these systems seem bulky or not really "quick." If I ever have a need for a bench vise, I'm making this!

    I knew as soon as you picked up the box that it was going to be that it was upside down. :D Absolutely stellar work. I love vids that have mistakes in them because anyone who thinks he's not going to make mistakes in the shop is fooling himself. It's how we learn.

    Thanks a lot! Another project I have to put on the list! Lol!
    Seriously the only thing I would add would be bench dogs and a removable cleat for them on the movable jaw. Yours seems almost to pretty to use. Love the fact that it was used with what was available. The nice thing is that it is so much larger than my decades old store bought ones. Seems one always needs that extra jaw width and the fast feature really makes it convenient. Take care. Doug

  • @stevensantos369

    Bushings for the slides can be made of the same pipe by cutting a length equal to jaw thickness or just 1/2 in longer. Cut a need along the length so you can be able to enlarge it a little to allow slide pipe to fit. Cut a few kerfs around the ends of pipe bushing 1/4 in deep and approx 1/4 in intervals around circumference on both ends. Now you have tabs to bend outward to keep bushings in place. Of you have thicker gauge pipe you can thread the ends and screw a collar nut on.

  • @gregfeneis609
    @gregfeneis609 6 років тому

    I love how that turned out. It looks like the trick is to put the work in the jaws and push them closed holding the handle at about 1 o'clock or so. Clockwise about 360° and you're clamped. then you've got from about 2 o'clock on to push down and get as tight as needed. Similar to how you do at 15:44

    • @PaskMakes
      @PaskMakes  6 років тому

      Thanks Greg! It doesn't matter what position the handle is in the mechanism starts to turn wherever it is, although sometimes it takes a little more of a turn than others (not much though) to engage the half nut (it all depends how close the half nut threads are to engaging the threaded rod). :)

    You'll get much better control if you use the lathe tool rest properly - hold the tool with your hand against the tool rest or, with an underhand grip, rest your index finger in the groove of the rest. You'll find you have much better control. It's like writing with your hand on the table versus trying to write without that reference point.

    • @PaskMakes
