  • For me, my planner only truly works if I take it everywhere with me. I wasn't doing that. So, for now, I needed to downsize. Pint-sized planning can be done!
    (The beginning is a lot of chit-chit regarding where the heck I've been... if you'd like to skip straight to Planner Talk, go to 03:48).
    Pocket All American from ChicSparrow: chicsparrow.com...
    Folders from Onica Hanby Studio on Etsy: www.etsy.com/s...
    Field Notes Notebooks: fieldnotesbrand...
    Weekly Calendar from Marsia Bramucci on Etsy: www.etsy.com/l...
    (In the video, I talk about how I tweaked the Personal Size of this insert to work for my needs; Marsia has now posted a Field Notes size of the same calendar, which is the link you see above.)

    I know I can probably speak for a lot of people when I say that "you're my friend and you don't even know it"! It's funny, I find myself talking back to you when I pause, refresh my drink or do housework. I will catch myself saying things like, "I know, I know, life IS so chaotic", etc... we missed you and glad to see you're back! You are an inspiration to all who watch, and have changed my life of planning dramatically! :)

    OMG I ordered the same planner without even seeing your video - and you are so right...you can't begin to describe how lovely this leather is - i just keep petting it as well - it's going to be so very hard not to order another one - great video - great ideas - thanks for sharing. I also love the idea of only using what you need and think I will rethink my current set-up. I also can't wrap my head around the fact that you have such a business life + SCHOOL? God Bless!

    New subbie & I love your videos. Thanks for all of your efforts!! Been there, done that & continue to do grad parties as my children grow :) A couple of hints that worked for our family was to think outside the box & keep it simple. We filled our youngest kiddie pool with ice then placed the water bottles & pop into the pool. All beverages kept nice & cool. We gave the younger children the responsibility of refill the pool beverages. We also decided to have our home be the one to come to for dessert. So, we had a family meal ahead for those that came from out of town. Then for the grad party for one of children we had an old fashioned ice cream social with every imaginable topping. Then for our next child we had a dessert bar. Both went over fabulously!!! Main thing is to relax & celebrate your sons milestone :)

    Hi Carie I love to hear about you and the family so very happy to listen to you ramble on 😊 I only started using a fauxdori system in January 2015 and I have a raydori full size and have made a fieldnotes size midori which contains pocket sized composition books which I am loving. 1 I use as a planner the other is my food and exercise journal. I adore watching all your videos as I am not very creative myself (planner wise) so I watch you for some decoration ideas and how to set out my planner etc. I too have just started to use my fieldnotes size more than my regular which makes me feel a little guilty as my regular was a birthday present but maybe if I use my regular at home and fieldnotes as my "out of the house" planner that guilty feeling will go away. Keep up the videos please you are a delight to watch. Thank you xxx

    The same thing happened to me!! I left my full size notebook at home a few times and low and behold I needed it every time! I ended up investing in a Filofax pocket Malden and I'm using it as a wallet as well. I love it, it's really working out well for me. The size is perfect.

    The size of my planner has been something I've been struggling with for some time. The full-size Midori is awesome to work with but a little too big and heavy for my purse. The passport or field notes size it's just too small for what I want to in there. So when I was at Walmart I saw one of those checkbook size monthly planners and I thought that would be perfect. I went home and made a Midori style cover for that. A lot of the standard size inserts fit when you cut the margins tight. and I can make my own graph paper books so I have been really enjoying it. Its like my baby bear book. Papa bear's was too big , mama bear's was too small, but baby bear's is just right.

    Glad to see you back Carie :) I've been finding my regular sized fauxdori is a bit chunky for day to day carrying. I might explore the field notes size. I'm using passport size as a wallet at the moment and I love that but I think it would be a little too small for a bullet journal/calendar of any size. How do you find being without a month to view in your field notes? I find this is one of the things I use most often in my planner.

    Carie! Glad to see a new video! Liam is fine! I know you are busy! I am and I only have four kids...awesome though, aren't they?
    Funny I have found myself in a moleskine 3.5 x 5.5! I have collected many planners thinking I cannot store everything in one place...too much! What do I end up doing...just making a to do list with ideas and notes like a bullet journal! I was just looking at a similar notebook by Cody Williams on Etsy...so funny! Maybe this should be my on the go instead of the personal size Kate Spade...it so pretty...I'm afraid to ruin it! LOL! Downsize and simplify? Hm...novel idea! 😄 I also would love to see how all your planners work together for you, though...when you get a chance! 😉
    Thanks again!

    Very interesting, compact arrangement. What lady needs a purse when you have all this in the palm of your hand? Very practical, as well as stylish. How do you keep the pen from falling out? Everything must be very secure, to hold all that and never loose anything. Do you ever drop this arrangement? If so, how well does it do in falls?
    Please forgive me if this sounds a little sexist, but are there any kinds of binders like that which a man would carry? Thanks.

    Great video! Can I ask - how does the leather of the All-American compare to the leather of the Luxxe? It's my understanding that the Luxxe is coming back in the Fall - and I'm trying to decide whether to purchase the All-American now or the Luxxe later. Any insight into the texture, thickness, and quality of the leather would be greatly appreciated!

    OMG you are such an enabler! I had ordered a couple of small TN covers from Foxy Fix (Oh, the blasphemy!) and was trying to decide which paper to put in them. I've always heard the term "Field Notes" but didn't realize they were kind of a thing, all their own. I found a set that goes with my state and some plain grid ones and then the cherry ones. I know this was filmed many years ago, but I remember when all these types of planners were coming in style and I could never figure out how anybody could use them if they didn’t have any type of calendar. I just couldn’t imagine how people were using all of these letters and field notes and all this other stuff to create functional planning because how are you gonna keep track of the dates and the times and things it just, couldn’t get into it.

  • @maryhoover1039
    @maryhoover1039 9 років тому +5

    Is there a way, if you have time, that you can provide a video or blog post where you go through all your planners that you actually use. How they are used individually. How you integrate all of them. If you use a main binder and how you incorporate that.
    I would also like to know how your project pages are set up and how you track the different projects since you work on some at one time and others at another.
    I guess I'm just asking what your whole system is and how it works together.
    I have no system and need one. If you hadn't mentioned your SYSTEM in the video I'd still be struggling to find what works. Trying one thing and then another has me so confused that I'm back to square one. And running with my tail between all my planners to my filofax.
    I need to start with the minimum system and build from there. I am trying to start blogging and would like to do a vlog but I can barely get a simple system.
    I have watched you over the years and found you are practical and easily can bring productivity to others so they understand.
    Ty for any help.
    On a side note I have seven kids. 4 boys and 3 girls plus any of their friends who adopt me as temporary Mom. They are all out of the house and come back to live in from time to time. So I am constantly readjusting my schedule to accommodate the new bodies. Any help with that would be welcomed. Otherwise my life is my own and I want to do more than wonder what to do.
    Lol bramble ramble. Sorry so long.

    • @CarieHarling
      @CarieHarling  9 років тому +2

      Mary Hoover Thank you for the fantastic comment! I have been trying to do a "Whole System" video for ages, but my brain tends to lock up or the busy-ness takes over and it just stops. :) You said it perfectly, though, when you said that you should start with a minimal system and build from there. That's the only way I've found what works for me personally. After I tried to go all-digital a few years ago (which just about did me in, as much as I wanted it to work), I just got a plain old notebook and started from scratch. If I needed something structured, I drew it in. If I needed project pages, I started from the back of the notebook and worked my way forward. I tried many, *many* things that absolutely did not work for me in the slightest, but then I also found that there are some things my brain needs in order to function and keep track of everyone (ahem... *vertical week with times*). :)

    Hi, I think that stationers and paper product manufacturers really need to sit up and take notice of the requirements of journal users. They ought to provide many products aimed at the journal market, products which users struggle to adapt and invent for themselves such as all kinds of inserts, pre printed reams of paper for our printers etc. Where i live it is very difficult to source the right cord elastic as jewellery elastic is simply not up to the task. Great Vid !!

    Carrie, I have the "All American," Maple Sugar, in wide and what it feels is "sleek" (smooth and glossy). is the definition I am soooo in love with mine. It has a classy feel to it as well coupled with a touch of "high class," if you know what I mean I know its a lovely notebook. My Mom saw my video and said that Jennifer didn't have to try to sell it my video does it all for her. LOL... just a fare warning I slipped and cussed in my video but I'm not going to take it down. I love your Luxxe and I hope you don't mind if I ask her to make me one and I am in love with your green/cream one I think it's the Gemini leather. I'm not trying to be a "copy cat," as most people might say I think you sold both of them for her to me. Hugs and Blessings to you, Mike and the children. Yolanda.

      I know I'm not Carie ;) but I have both and I love the elastic closure on the spine more, personally. When it's on the back the knot can tend to get in the way and you don't even notice the knot on the spine at all. I also find it easier to close.

    • @CarieHarling
      @CarieHarling  8 років тому +1

      You know, it's funny... the knot in the back never bothered me until I got my first notebook that had the note in the spine rather than the back. Now, whenever I go back to a notebook with the knot in the back, I notice it for the first day or so. I personally prefer that knot in the spine.

    I have tried to make the switch from regular sized MTN to personal. When making notes or scheduling, I choke, just can't put pen to page. The thoughts or plans that I needed to write down leave my brain in those instances which is counter productive, right? I think that I believe that I am going to use too much of the page, feel enormous pressure to not waste the space that I will run out of room for future note needs. After comparing my handwriting to Carie's, I don't believe that I am writing big. Anyone else experience this & how did you overcome. For now, I have moved back to regular size.

    Okay hopefully this doesn't sound weird or creepy but it's driving me nuts. So I heard of your videos through Miss Vicky Bee and as I was watching one of your first videos I kept thinking this girl looks familiar. After watching more of your videos you make a comment about working at a bookstore and I think I know how. Now unless you have a twin I'm positive I remember you from Barnes and Noble. If I'm right you and talked for a very long time about the Nooks which was another obsession of mine, Nooks, I've owned every single one, lol.

    To me, the All American feels like a silicone baking sheet. Maybe that's just me?

      DIPAK DESAI Stopped using Evernote?! Never!! I've used both paper & digital for years. I just shifted my paper planning to a smaller book, that's it. No change to the system at all.
