Thank you for a very comprehensive and intelligent review. Very refreshing these days. I'd love a Ghost in the Machine box set, since that is hands down my favorite Police album.
I saw them 3 times live. 2 Ghost in the Machine shows and 1 Synchronicity show. I love that live concert from the box set. There is an Atmos mix of the main record on Apple Music. Takes me back. I would love to get Ghost in the Machine next. What a great band. Great box set. Thanks for the video.
Great review of this box set! I would love to see Zenyatta Mondatta & Ghost in the Machine get the same treatment! We already knew just how spectacular the Police were but this box set proves it yet again. Sting, Andy & Steward were in a league of their own. This unfortunately is the closest we'll ever get to new music from them but it's worth it for any Police fan!
ha, you keep the hype sticker just like i do! mine arrived at lunch. will start listening tonight. pairing with wine or bourbon - not sure yet! also like the little pictures under each CD holder. i remember going to this concert in KC. i remember buying a long sleeve shirt at the show and then (unfortunately) cutting off the sleeves and the collar as it shrunk.
Mine is finally arriving tomorrow from Amazon. Looks like a great box set. I have the CD box on the way. Great album!!! I hope all 5 Police Albums get this treatment
I'm loving this set! The sound quality of everything is top notch and I think the set has made me appreciate the original album more. It would be great if the rest of the back catalogue was given this much care and attention. Here in the UK Stewart Copeland is touring small theatres in October and November talking about his life and career so maybe I will get a chance to ask him if the rest of the Police's albums get this deluxe treatment.
There was talk from either Stewart Copeland or Andy Summers a few years ago about work commencing on a "Reggatta De Blanc" super deluxe set. Many were expecting that album as a expanded box set first. This "Synchronicity" super deluxe set was a big surprise for those who had heard that earlier news.
Hi TJR Always love your video presentations. Happy to say I got to see them live on their reunion tour. They are a favorite. I ordered this box set.... this album holds a special place. I would not mind if they gave the same treatment for Regatta de Blanc, Zenyatta Mondatta and Ghost in the Machine. I would be surprised if that happens. Now if only this box set can get shipped in lightning speed to me. God bless your channel and the Police.
A very nice box set! The unreleased studio discs are very interesting. "Every Breath You Take" is much different on the demo, without Andy Summers' great guitar work. It has a much more "pop" sound. The last seven tracks on CD 2 are unreleased on CD or LP. They comprise the five left over tracks from the Atlanta '83 concert, which were left off CD 2 of the 2 CD "The Police Live!" set. I think the Oakland concert on CD's 5 and 6 here is a much better concert. And this is where a Blu-Ray would've come in handy. They could've put a surround sound mix of the album, plus the related music videos, and the Oakland, CA '83 concert exists in full on video. It was also pro-recorded, like the Atlanta '83 concert. so was their Montreal '83 concert. Word is, the next Police box set is "Reggatta De Blanc". It was mentioned as being worked on, even before the "Synchronicity" box set. I was expecting "Reggatta De Blanc" first.
This might be my favorite Police album. Like the Beatles they left on top with their last recorded album. Glad that they still do box sets in the age of streaming.
It’s a great box set! I stayed home on Saturday and played the whole thing it sounds great. The mix on all 6 cd sounds wonderful. Maybe with today’s technology we don’t need a 5.1 because it was recorded so well. The live disc sounded great! Better than there other live album from 83. Have a good one TJR!
Personally would love to see Ghost in the Machine get a similar treatment. I was a huge fan of the demos on this deluxe release, especially the Every Breathe You Take demo with the alternate synth melody throughout.
Mine arrived today AND im very happy with It...only 2 things, I would have really liked the concert to have been included in the LP version and the dolby atmos was missing. Maybe at some point they will be released.
Just like a movie outtake, music outtakes are recordings that are not used in a final version of an album. Collections of this sort of material are often compiled and distributed illegally by fans, and known as a bootlegged recording. Sometimes, artists release collections of outtakes, sometimes grouped with other rarities such as demos and unreleased songs. Occasionally collections of outtakes become recognized as part of an artist's major creative output, especially in cases where an artist is unusually prolific or dies young. One example would be The Lillywhite Sessions by Dave Matthews Band, an album that was considered unfinished and not ready to be distributed, yet is widely considered part of the discography of the band by their fans. An example of the former is the fourteen-volume Bootleg Series from Bob Dylan, which contains many important Dylan songs omitted from his albums, some of which were made famous by other artists. An example of the latter is the CD Time of No Reply by Nick Drake, a British singer-songwriter who died almost unknown at the age of 26 in 1974, but whose music became highly influential on other artists in subsequent decades.
Yeah, now I heard it from you. I think I’m really gonna pull the trigger on this. I wasn’t sure before if it’ll be worth the money, I would love to see ghost in the machine get the treatment.
Thanks for the vote of confidence. Don’t forget that if you want to sample before you buy, the entire set is on Tidal, so I assume it’s also on Spotify and Apple Music etc too.
Did the u released alternate takes came from the universal studios Hollywood fire 🔥 2008 16 years ago? The one which has the different mixes and also the unreleased part 1 and 2 as well?
@@JIF882 Yes, those particular tapes must have been stored at the Iron Mountain Vault facility, not at the Universal Lot. If they were at Montserrat in 1989, the tapes survived the hurricane. Some tapes were lost in the Universal Lot fire in 2008. Like the session tapes for Nirvana's "Nevermind". The master, or a good copy of it still exists, but I doubt that the session tapes do.

Congrats on your acquisition! I love this album by one of the best bands ever! Not a bad album by them IMHO!❤
I agree! One of the few artists who never made a bad album. Like Led Zeppelin and The Beatles.

I heard about that
Thanks fro the heads up on all of this. I wondered if the live concert was also on video.
Great review and analysis, TJ. Thank you.
My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed it.

The U?
They amazingly survived both the 2008 Universal Lot fire and Hurricane Hugo hitting the island of Montserrat AIR Studios in 1989.
@jameswilson7084 wouldn't the master tapes be at the Universal building?

I think that Ghosts In The Machine deserves to be released in a box set. Wishful thinking. We'll see what happens.
It is remastered for streaming and cd….
Hello i hope they give the same treatment to the first police album which is my favourite album thanks for your video always interesting
Don't know if there is enough material but I hope all their records get this kind of box set treatment.
Nice box but overpriced by at least $40.
Stewart Copeland is a marvelous drummer but Sting is a wanker!!!
How so?
