So glad I saw is when the Movie was released so many years ago. Have loved Lara’s Theme ever since. The movie is just wonderfully beautiful and I watch it on DVD often.
I have watched it for 40 years and I am 50 now. Every time I watch it I learn something new. It is particularly important now with what Russia is doing in the Ukraine. In the scene where the lady runs by the train and jumps on after throwing her baby on board first, the actor in real life fell under the rain and had both legs almost severed.
This movie presents the reality of life as crude and rude as it is. No fantasies no nice guys no happy endings. One of the best movies I’ve ever seen in my life. I ignored it when I was young because I thought it was too old to be watched. How wrong was I. Some stores have no age no time. It has really touched me deep. Happiness could be found in something so small as a hug or a kiss of the soulmate.
My dad was born in southern Russia. A German Mennonite and he watched Russia being taken over by the communists as a young boy. He says so much of it was exactly how it was. He hated the color red for the cruelty it represented. They moved to Canada in the 1920’s. Thats what I remember, the beauty but the horrors of that era. Said it had to be filmed elsewhere as the Russian government wouldn’t allow it there. A very sad, horrible era. And still is, in Russia, Ukraine and over the rest of the world. And I will NEVER vote for anyone who admires communist ideals.
Yes a brilliant film, but then Lean was a genius... even the way he encouraged Jarre to compose the theme song. Largely shot in Spain during a scorching summer, incredible.
To be loved so deeply by two women..this is what love is where all to care about is the happiness and safety of the one you love. Both women were devoted and even sadder is that he loved them both so much.
I watched Dr Zhivago for the first time 36 years ago. My boyfriend at the time, gave me a heart shape music box that plays Lara's theme. I still have it and i still treasure it. And have happy and fond memories. And yes, lucky me, it still plays. ❣️. One day, i may pass it on to one of my beautiful granddaughters 💕
I watched this with my sister at the cinema, a few months before she emigrated to Canada in 1966. She died a couple of weeks ago, from Cancer and her ashes are being brought home to Wales. Made me cry when I heard the music.

However I found out that John had written to me both at my mum's address and my grandma's where I was living when we last went out together. Evidently he wrote several times but my mum and grandma did not think he was right for me so burnt his letters. This was several years after he wrote. I was devasted and still miss him.
Julia Gribble Very sad to hear, your family blocked without proper explaining letters and jeopardized chanace to build up relationship. Handwritten (love) letter has its uniqie charm and I value it a lot when I get one :) By the way those Russian tracks and compositions are mostly very emotional and can drive sensual or melancholical person crazy like this Dr. Zhivago theme. Russian langauge is also like many slavic (especially eastern) langauges very melodical and makes classic or orchestral music very pleasant to ears.

The film was made in Madrid in 1963/64. The scenes containing snow at the dacha are actually beeswax. When the actors started singing socialist songs the spanish police came around terrified that the still raw emotions from the Spanish Civil war were flaming up again.

@Panos Demou I've got the film on dvd but still have to watch it everytime it is on t.v.
As already was said, your former and also 1st boyfriend must had strong romantic feeling, uncommon nowadays
@@DB-47 Thank you, he went to art college and said he would write and wanted me to go and share a flat with him. I never heard from him so thought he had dumped me.
Handwritten (love) letter has its uniqie charm and I value it a lot when I get one :)
By the way those Russian tracks and compositions are mostly very emotional and can drive sensual or melancholical person crazy like this Dr. Zhivago theme. Russian langauge is also like many slavic (especially eastern) langauges very melodical and makes classic or orchestral music very pleasant to ears.
@@DB-47 they are precious and it should have been mine and John's choice not other peoples but such is life. I didnt find out till years afterwards though. Thank you for your kind words greatly appreciated
A Master Piece
The film was made in Madrid in 1963/64. The scenes containing snow at the dacha are actually beeswax. When the actors started singing socialist songs the spanish police came around terrified that the still raw emotions from the Spanish Civil war were flaming up again.
Classic master piece beautifully crafted u no my dad use to say old is gold true very true just like this film one of akind..
One of the greatest, classic Movies of all Time and great Music. ❤
I adore this film, nearing 50 times having seen. Once upon a time I knew of love like this, it overtakes you.
they, Julie Christie and Omar Sharif were both so good looking in this movie,
Märchenhafter Film und ein sehr bezauberndes Lied. 🌹
