Thank you for showing how the fabric is folded and where the selvedges go. I have an accuquilt that i havent used yet but, since i am rubbish at cutting accurately, i want to use it for strips.

I’m enjoying your videos on cutting techniques. I have the elements in place for my dream sewing room and should be good to go by the end of August!!!!
I’ll be working on both Tumbling Blocks and Lone Star samples. The plan is to sew strip sets and then subcut with a 60* ruler. Can I cut strips sets (2.5” strips, seamed, cut on the die as shown?) and get appropriate portions? Or will I just have start with individual diamonds?
My idiosyncratic spatial spidy sense predicts that sub cutting strip sets won’t work. Why? Because if this strategy would work wouldn’t there be lots of videos showing how?
If the diamonds have to be sewn individually that would be a real challenge.

PS. I started ironing fabric if there are wrinkles; I successfully proved to myself that it cut down on fabric waste when I ironed first. I’ve followed some presenters who are devoted to spray starch and sizing. I don’t spray fabric first because I make a huge mess.
But the next time I do the BOB pineapple pattern I’m definitely going to starch first. That first attempt was a huge learning experience.

Hi Melinda! Thank you! I'm glad you are enjoying our videos and appreciate any purchases you make though our links! I have not made the tumbling blocks or lone star patterns yet (we have a Hunter's Star tutorial though), but I found this video ua-cam.com/video/DWpSETMbws4/v-deo.html which talks about how to use strip sets to make tumbling blocks without those Y seams. So, it looks to me like if you would make your strip sets, then cut the 60 degree angle at one end. Then you would cut the 2.5" strips by lining the 60 degree angle edge along the long side of the die. I'm not sure if fanfolding would work though! And I'm not sure if you could use the die to cut the strips in half? I would suggest getting some scrap fabric and trying it out and see how it works out! You do have me interested now, so maybe I'll try and work it out sometime. You are right that sewing all of those triangle Y seams would be a pain. Happy Quilting!
I have been told for the strips on the strip cutter selvages go across the die fold first and cut?

Thank you! Your first video inspired me to buy the GO Big. I now have the cutter and a few dies (they are addictive). I am not a quilter yet, just starting out but I do sew, and have for a long time. I resisted quilting for years as I intensely dislike cutting out fabric, I did try once and could not get accurate cuts and almost cut myself in the bargain. So thanks for the inspiration, this system will let me explore quilting. I did work on some scraps recently and happy to say I love it. I have a modern quilt design in mind and just got my 6.5" die today for it. I do need to get the 2.5" for binding though.

I just received my GoBig. Quick question: does the wrinkles in the fabric affect the accuracy of the cuts? Or does the machine press the wrinkles out.? Thank you.
Hi Nancy! You will want to press any large wrinkles out of the fabric before using it in your Go! It won't press the wrinkles out and it can mess up the accuracy of your cuts if there are wrinkles. Happy Quilting!
