    Really good insight and look at the spreadsheet. So glad to see it used like that. Hadn't thought to compare myself in Season 1 to Season 4. Wild to think we basically failed keys that are now equivalent of a 2 haha...

      because we know delves will be another dead system by the end of the expansion like torghast. as a solo activity it will end up completely unsatisfying and end up a group actively effectively being mini M+ which no one doing M+ will care one whit about it. the group minded people lose their mind if the solo players get to progress like them without being forced into their presence so they can silently and not so silently judge you and reject you. keeping out the 'undeserving'.

      @@GanzBestimmt imagine thinking something so stupid. This content was made for solo and group. Couples, and friends. It is much better than any mythic dungeon stuff.
      The same people who talk about unsatisfying and all that. Why is it that the easiest most brain dead classes are played in wow? Ret and beast hunter are the two most played classes and some of the easiest.

      @@kmdsubs3148 its not that hard tbh. I came back to WoW S4 pretty late after a huge break from Shadowland S3 and it feels the same. I have like 3 weeks to catch up the gears and now I am doing 16-18 comfortably.

    Another good thing about the removal of m+ levels is it consolidates the players so there are more players at each level to find groups with.

    Season 1 gameplay loop just dropped:
    1) Queue for 30-60mins and then finally find a group.
    2) Take 10 more mins to get there and finally start.
    3) Wipe 2 times to first boss.
    4) Disband and back to point 1.

      ​@myopiniondoesntmatter7068 Some people's friends have moved onto other games. When you get into other guilds there are clicks that you might or might not blend into, and if you are able to blend it will take time. Being with a active guild definitely makes it easier.

      Last boss in season 1 Azure vault was eomthing. Thundering making you collapse to get rid of debuff, but there is a boss debuff on everyone that slows you the more you move. Also energy balls everywhere.

    M0 has a daily lockout in TWW, compared to the weekly lockouts that we’ve been used to. There might be an expectation people are better geared before they start early M+.
    (And yes, the daily lockout is confirmed as intended in a Morgan Day interview)

      Lol bro it drops veteran tier gear. That is equivalent to heroic dungeon ilvl gear in s1 DF which didn't have daily lockouts. Daily lockout also was confirmed over a month ago on blueposts not morgan day interview.

      You are going to do great ! If you accept that you cannot do everything. Focus on learning DMG pattern and staying alive. What ever difficulty. The rest can be handle by tanks and DPS. Don't get overwhelmed wanting to do everything.

    Hey Growl thanks for all you do friend. Your insight is very helpful and informative. Slapping a disclaimer on the new content to come with a "Proceed with caution" sticker is a welcomed change and a needed one for those of us who are inclined to have the expectation that everyone will try to complete a key regardless of how difficult, as opposed to jumping ship on first wipe. Patience is a rare commodity these days and people are prone to building up expectations and immediately dipping when their expectations are not met by the team. Everyone is gonna be learning and adapting to a new system, and to have a content creator and an amazing high key healer such as yourself come out and make this point is pretty amazing.

    Pretty drastic jump from M0 to M10 and nothing in between. But after all I like the idea. Especially removing the difficulty of old heroic and lifting it to a more meaningful lvl.

      That is exactly what Final Fantasy 14 does.
      I think some mechanics should be like that but not all. We still need to be able to die if the group sucks.

      @@jonteguy True. I just mean the failed mechanics though. Like you stood in fire so you get a 20 second "burning" debuff that drops your mastery. You may have to crank up the non avoidable damage or else put an enrage timer to compensate. But at least you can put the blame on "enraged" bosses on the DPS.

      Why is this ignorant take constantly parroted? There are plenty of mechanics that you're able to consciously ignore or delay when played around properly. Why would you want to punish that?
      And you are, once again like every single person making this shit take, forgetting that such a DPS debuff IS STILL PUNISHING THE HEALERS! Trash pack takes longer to kill = healer needs to heal and stress more = healer is still punished. The loss of damage from a DPS is still going to translate to the party taking more damage over the course of a longer period of time. So instead of one person taking more damage, congratulations; now the entire party is going to take more damage.
      When will this shit take die down, for crying out loud. How dumb are you people, seriously. Why are you so horny on punishing good players for the sake of punishing bad ones. At higher key levels players already get oneshot for failing mechanics and for the odd mechanic which doesn't do that, there's bound to be ways for players to play around it in order to optimize their DPS.
      Before anyone comes in with some kind of counterargument relating to this; no, of course you wouldn't consciously ignore/delay a mechanic and put needless stress on a healer if you know they can't handle it. That's part of being a good player; to gauge whether your healer is able to handle and on a given pull or if you need to help them out. Again, I'm saying don't be a bitch and ask for these kind of changes just because you're playing with shit players who irrationally blame the healer for their deaths despite it being entirely on that specific DPS for dying. One person being incapable of taking personal responsibility isn't a valid reason for asking for these dumb changes which ultimately only punish good players.

      This is a terrible idea because there is no direct communication that what you did is bad. Most wow players eat crayons and there are still people who fail to realize they have to stand in the light in that one dungeon to do any damage to the mobs in the darkness. They literally see themselves hitting for 800 damage and don't conclude that anything is wrong.
      The only way to force so someone to git gud is to force them to respawn and walk back.

    *Basically, we seem to be backto how it used to be:* First, People gear up until most of their gear is at the ilvl that Heroic gives. Then we start doing just good ol' regular Mythic to slowly replace them with Mythic gear and start getting some enchants on them. Then finally, once we get enough gear (enough being an amount that varies with class, spec and the player themselves) we start doing M+. *I remember when it released, getting into M+ was pretty daunting for many players, with its timed nature and all. This new progression seems to be fairly close to how M+ was when it started.*

    Even as an upper class member of the mole people I'm hearing many complaints for having only heroic and m0 dungeons available at the beginning. For me it's looks like it's going to be a very fun progression period in the first months, with having a different BIS target to chase for every week.
    Exactly what I enjoy the most in this game and what makes "fresh" starts at the beginning of an expansion so exciting.

    Healing dungeons during the first two or three weeks of every new expansion is probably the most stress you'll have, other than pushing keys on very high or doing mythic raiding. People have gotten used to being extremely powerful compared to the content offered and it takes time to readjust. This has always been the case, every expansion. With the changes outlined in this video though, I expect a lot more groups to take a lot longer to do certain dungeons and many a temporary tank to flame the healer for not keeping them alive on a double pull.
    Fun times, can't wait!

    I don't know if you were not around during Cataclysm launch, or forgot it. But what i remember (until BFA) Dungeons were hard during launch and got easy with gear

      Yeah the game has changed A LOT. Now it's super stupid easy pull the whole dungeon for the TicTok attention span crowd. or it's sweat lord difficult. The game has lots a lot of it's identity over the years.
      Hell Normal dungeons were not a cake walk and you couldn't just pull the whole dungeon and zerg it down. I remember in TBC when Heroics were difficult.

      I mean, considering mm+ are locker first week + mm0 will have a daily lockout mean big players will be full mm0 during (true) week 1 of mm+. So now the question is can the top 0.1% clear a old +20 with +10 gear ? without the timer nerf we got recently i would had say probably

    I think it will also be harder for casuals, because you only see the mythic boss abilities once the season starts. When Dragonflight launched I did every boss like 6-8 times on mythic before going into the season.

    2 weeks into launch and I'm not sure how to feel about heroics supposedly being m0 level of last expansion. Sure m0 was nothing difficult but we're blasting through HC bosses in less than 10 seconds so I'm not sure how much more difficult m0 is going to be

    Using S4 as the only example, most casual keys stuck around 4-6. 7-8's were rarer but offered the next gear upgrades for the vault but ere where it started to getdifficult as it matched heroic raid gear, and 8+ were the people who enjoyed mythic for mythic itself. Casual mythic players were able to manage 4-6 using LFR gear. I'm not sure if that was a one off or it will be the norm.

    It'll be interesting to see how big the jump is between HCs and mythics, next week. All I can say is that there's no way heroics in TWW are the equivalent of m0 from DF. I remember having to drink after nearly every pull at the start of DF and in the TWW, I go through a whole dungeon with a full bar of mana throughout.

    i dont know, i think Blizz and a lot of people are forgetting, that the world has more than just high key pushing people. At the beginning of an Addon, MOST players are farming 6-10 for like weeks until they are geared up or just for some "easy" vaults. There are rather few people pushing higher than 15 even in the first month. I dont see how they benefit from the eradication of literally M2-M10?!
    Proning the keys is all fine and well, but this is just to drastic. Especially for the first Season, proning 2-4 and starting with a M+5 as M0 would have been enough to make stuff harder without overdoing it. It would give returning or starting players a foothold for getting into M+ without taking anything away from high key pushing ones.
    And then, when people are all geared in S2 and when usually Keys like +2-+8 are getting to easy, just raise the bar to M10 equivalent.

    Thanks for this insight Growl, as a healer I always feel so bad when a key fails (trying to work on that as per your healer mistakes vid xD) so it's good to see some data that this happens very, very often.

    M0 doesn't have a timer, so the bigger jump doesn't seem bad. It'd be like 5-man raiding for casuals needing to progress.

    This reminds me of Cataclysm back in the day when they made Heroic dungeons harder than they were in Wrath, I like the feeling of having less bloat in the content so for heroics to be at a m0 level will probably feel quite good after the initial adjustment. I skipped DF for the most part and as a healer I'm quite happy that I did seeing as it has apparently been a shit show of ping pong healing, which I hate.

      Cata when it came out was really tough in terms of dungeon and raid difficulty. I think the game is in a much better state with the current DF S4 M+ and raiding state, but I feel like if they make the game more inaccessible blizz might isolate a lot of their player base.

      I played TWW Beta and unfortunately healing is still a ping pong show... Most of the dungeons you are seeing people's Health bars going to 10% so you have to quickly get them to 100% and they go back 10% within a few seconds again... They did increase the overall Health pools of everyone, but the dungeons are sooooo overtuned that this change didn't really do much to fix the healing issue.

    It sounds like the timer is being increased, but the death timer would be an issue if you are dying a lot. If you have more time, you can take slower pulls instead of being worried about having to pull larger groups that might be more dangerous.

    Good! We have to actually play the game. Yesterday I was very stoned and I had no problems tanking an unknown heroic instances. In matter of fact, this goes pretty much on autopilot.

    I feel like the first season dungeons kicking peoples ass is the best part of a new expansion. I was the nut who liked when getting a 15 done in SL S1 was actually challenging. I liked when DF S1 kicked our ass. Compared to how like, the last seasons make it feel like a 20 is mostly "just don't die"
    Even beyond all those numbers being 10 lower, I hope getting like, 5s done as we start the season actually smacks people around. Those who are capable will soar past the negativity that comes from it quickly anyway.

    Heard some of your takes on the Bench podcast & brought me here, subscribed. I think in general there's this "rush" to complete the hardest content asap, people crash against a wall in Mythic Raid trying to get their 4th and 5th kills for weeks, m+'ers try to fly up to the highest key ranges mostly breaking keys and turning frustrated/toxic. I think everyone needs to breathe, relax, and go at a leisurely pace and you find with every week you're more geared, know the mechanics better and progress easier. There's a reason why towards end of season most ppl go getting their last Mythic raid kills & highest keys, stop pushing for everything in Week 1 & 2, there's time

      I wish more people would take it at a relaxed pace. Would be less stressful for everyone! Though in some sense it's funny, I pace myself and still get all the same rewards as the people who were sweating hard trying to speedrun their goals for the season.

    Very glad they made it hard again. This is fantastic, the rewards will have some weigth to them again. The game have been laughably easy a lot of times. Enjoy it while it last, people will start to blame the game instead of them selfs shortly and force blizz to make it boring again pretty soon. Rewards have no value if you don’t have to work for it.

    This video is sadly not very well researched. Metro went into S4 with around 488 iLvl and +5's were dropping 502 iLvl. That's +14 iLvl you're getting from a +5. M0 dropped 493 gear which is still +5 iLvl. In TWW M0 is dropping 593 and you can easily get a full set of crafted 590 gear or even a full set of 593 gear BEFORE M0 is even released. So you're already overgearing M0 before it's even released, which means it's not exactly comparable to previous Season 1's or even DF S4. But other than that, the 3x more punishing death timer will definitely be brutal and the step-up in difficulty will likely catch people off guard, but there are also things that make it easier than DF S4 was.

    You will have delves to get gear for the m0's though no? And it's dropping champion items, vs m0's only dropping veteran, should help the transmission a bit but I guess we'll see

    In any season beyond the first season in a new expansion, you have gear from the previous season, making it A LOT easier to run high keys. Season 1 is always insanely harder than following seasons

    I hope so. I'm returning from Cata and it was pretty silly leveling a ret pally. I like the que times being low but it was essentially me chasing a tank as he literally runs from start to finish stopping occasionally when the pulls big enough.

    But before the season starts we will have M0 dungeons on a daily lockout so it’ll actually be reasonably feasible for us to be kitted out in full M0 gear and even some LFR tierset pieces

    I think a lot of people are going to think getting to 10s will be easy right away. Have to remember we have no tier, not crafted gear, maybe not great trinkets and low secondary stats. I remember trying a high ruby life pools day one of season 1 and we were about an hour in before we called it quits because we couldn't kill the 2nd boss. In TWW s1 keys right away are going to be way harder than they were at the start of DF s1.

    I don't buy it that they're going to hurt.
    They said Heroics would be like old Mythic0. Yet even now before season starts, I can already solo Heroic dungeons with 0 difficulty, while in dogshit gear, haven't played for 4,5 years and I don't know what my spells do. I'm just clicking random buttons, and I can solo Heroic dungeons before season starts.
    And If I go into the dungeon in a group, I will just pull 30+ mobs and then AoE burst them with 2+ mil dps.

      Mythic is definitely way harder than hc. In hc i was also pulling half of the dungeon, in mythic i can pull 1-2 groups.

People around that time at all tiers from casual to RWF raiders were all complaining how difficult it was to find people to do content, so good luck if Blizzard tries to use Shadowlands as the basis for balancing difficulty.

    Not sure if he brings it up and im sure people might already know this one as well but starting with season 1 and maybe a bit before the new m0's will also be daily locked they will no longer be weekly locked going forward at least for this season so those who are a bit worried about gear like i was that is no longer the case starting with the war within along with the fact we also have delves to do as well to get some more side gear for our climb through mythic dungeons

    The last season I played in it's entirety was encrypted and even playing the entire season I was 1-2 key levels behind title, I'm hoping this expansion will have a banger season where I'm motivated to go for that goal, but removing seasonal affixes has nuked my excitement for every season since.

    Its always same thing each expansion, Season1 is hardest, you need to gear up more then lets say Season 2 when you start already with BiS from S1. Yea its gonna be hard start once again, but cant wait for it.

    So to be able to complete a +10 in the first week, let's say not consistently but the one for vault.. We are talking around 1-2% of M+ players? or what would be your estimation on that?

      I would say if your able to fully clear normal raid and progress towards the later bosses of heroic raid week one then you likely will be able to do it. Your going to need at least some of the heroic raid gear to even have a chance at it.

      I think that's a fair estimate. Its hard because there are a lot of good players that don't push M+, but id say if getting close to title range in previous seasons of dragonflight was out of your reach, than you probably shouldn't expect to be able to do a +10 on the first week without a lot of tough groupfinder prog. Keep in mind though each week you are going to get MUCH stronger and over time it will be much more attainable.

      I was a midcore-ish player in DF and was able to finish (aka weekly no leaver) 10s week 1 every season...except season 1. The lower ilvl you come into an expansion with just makes it that much more brutal, so it'll be a stretch goal of mine in TWW but I won't kick myself if I don't get there.

      @@MaethorDerien Depends on how many splits your guild runs in heroic to funnel gear too. Someone walking in with full heroic tier will have a vastly different experience then someone in 2-piece or no tier mixed normal/heroic gear, with some dungeon pieces.

    In theory: new hc were supposed to be m0 difficulty. In practice: you clear hc in 5 minutes inquestiong gear with no healer in group xD I wonder if mythic difficulty fail as well

    I dubbed the sense of overconfidence "nyalotha fever" had a lot of people who got CE or close to getting CE in nyalotha have high confidence that theyre cutting edge material just to immediately get humbled in heroic CN, or even normal CN. always tell people to manage expectations going into new expacs because its as rough as it gets

      Most of the mechanics for these new dungeons are kicking or dodging frontals. Use details to track interrupts and clap back if they're not doing their job

      Depends on your class but if you're a shaman healer then yeah it'll be challenging because you're likely to be expected to interrupt too as you'll have the shortest CD interrupt in the game.
      Warrior tanks will be easier to heal than any of the other classes provided the warrior knows what he's doing.

    Looks good. I jump at last Expansion up to +15 intime at first week of the 1.season. So i think i will this time go up to 9. And will force to make first weekly at least multi +10 for chests. I remember at s1 df i had with my prot warri a better place at Rankings vs Metro. This time i will Farm First as Guardian and Change to resto Druid after +10. I really Hope heal will be big Payne this season.

    Ok, you've warned us, so what can the average pug player do about it?
    BTW, I agree, the initial jumps from Normal -> Heroic and Heroic to M0 is really big. If all they wanted was to reduce the number of M+ keys, they could have just done that: Make M2 what M4 was, make M4 what M8 was, etc, and it'll even out, and folks can make the jump to M0 without feeling like idiots.

    It’s bizarre to me that they would make dungeons harder this xpac. I don’t mind a challenge but it’s been overwhelmingly voiced time and again that wow is too difficult for players to get into. Perhaps they’re banking on delves to take over as the casual pillar but even still I don’t know if dungeons need to get even harder

    Yo, keep up the good work!
    I feel like this discussion is starting to plague every rollover to new expansion. You cant ever compare last season of the previous to the first season of the new one unless they fundamentally change the progression system. Every single xpac we end 30%+ of every secondary, primary in the thousands, bloated stam compared to current dmg intake and gradually loose ALL of it during leveling. By x5 or xx5 lvl you feel like shit especially when thats the point where they turn off last expac systems. Every xpac always had either soft reset of power or a number squish so thinking you can go from pushing +20 S4 old to pushing +21 S1 new is highly delusional. It would mean you continue where you left off without any concessions in power ( doing 10x dmg when new stuff has 20x hp means youre actually doing half the dmg ).
    I see three paths ahead and none of them seem fun:
    1) Continue as is with soft resets every xpac and a squish every two or three xpacs.
    2) Diablo 3 downfall path, every xpac adds 20 key levels so by the end of Worldsoul Saga were pushing keylevels 100+ and doing dmg in the trillions. Singular keylevel increases are barely noticeable so you skip next 5-10, why are they even there.
    3) Pull back heavily, spread the difficulty more. Keys would be 1-5 instead of 1-20 with much bigger jumps in difficulty to progress towards. Every xpac adds 20 ilvls and not 250 with much less incremental increases season to season. 5%-10% progression season to season feels unrewarding though.

    Mythic dungeons should be hard though. Tanks expect to run into a room and pull everything. They have to actually know mechanics. Damage dealers need to actually kick stuff and avoid. And healers need to prioritize properly and not lazily overheal and be accurate.
    Being hard at mythic is good. It supposed to be the hardest content in the game.

    It's hard to know how difficult the dungs will be, in s4 we are all pretty much bis geared thanks to bullions so +10s are extremely easy comparee to +20s at the seasons before which felt a lot harder

    Thats not good dofficulty though. Anything relying on good coordination will decimate random groups.
    But thats an issue wow has in general. They build their whole game arround classes having cooldowns. Problem is that yeah you got cooldowns, but you still require each individual to be able to press their cooldowns when they need to. And that is done most effectively if the whole party is on voice coms.

    Looks like I’ll need to step up my game now. I just got back into WoW after a break. In Season 2, I mained a Holy Paladin and managed to gear up with full +15s without being in a guild, which I was pretty proud of (I'm a very casual player). Does this mean that if I want to reach that level again, I’ll need to join a guild this time?

    But you missed out on a very important detail, in DF S1, you jumped straight into +10s/+12s with +0 gear. In TWW S1, you will have farmed an entire week of gear from M0 (+10), and raid before going into M+, so you will be geared already unlike in DF.

      The baseline scaling of a +2 is higher this time around. We haven't actually played a season like this from scratch, we already had BiS (or near) gear jumping into the season after the key squish.
