I remember when this was being filmed in Phoenix. The only station we had that played Morrissey was KUKQ 1060 AM. Fans were calling into the station after seeing him. They were exciting and some were eve crying.
Holy crap I'm one of those guys. Raised in Vegas, & Phx. I saw him in '91' in pic. An am 1060 was The channel I kept it on! Small world. Keep the faith....
i'll never forget when he came to tower records on south street in philadelphia back in spring '94. the line to get CDs autographed was around the block.
This 30+ year old music video is a wonderful nineties time capsule. The black and white photography and interesting motel landscapes really capture a part of Americana that is slowly disappearing. Amazing to realize that Morrissey's 35 year solo career has lasted 7 times longer than the 5 years that The Smiths were in existence. I've been a fan of The Smiths and Morrissey since 1986. Long live Morrissey!
No matter what I can always find a Morrissey song that fully reflects my state of being. Morrissey is bedrock. 34 years of listening to Morrissey and it's still fresh to me. 💕
This was the Zenith of Morrissey’s solo career. His band was second to none (Alain Whyte, Boz Boorer, Spencer Cobrin and Gary Day). This was such a clean and heartfelt song. Beautiful 😁
This song is a perfect example of why Morrissey is so easy to resonate with. The lyrics are so simple and clean-cut, yet they uniquely describe a feeling that (nearly) everyone has felt at least once in their lives. I think this is why his fanbase is so devout.
I actually now at 47 years old think the Morrissey catalog is better than The Smiths. I know it’s not a competition, it’s a cooperation. They’re both amazing, but HE is both. Sorry for rambling, this song is great.
You said it. His understanding of how people feel is so raw and so precise. He is a wonderful human being, I will cry so much when he goes and I have never met him.
I don't think Morrissey has any special access to understanding humans more than anyone else. He just has a very stylish and poetic way of describing and bemoaning many of life's problems that human beings can encounter. Many of which he never really has.
Morrissey and his band with unbelievably cool haircuts - thank God we still have Morrissey and thanks Boz Boorer, Alain Whyte and all the others who have worked with Moz too.
What a seriously beautiful song. Great way to tip your hat off to America. What a great video, a bunch of nice looking gentlemen in British car. I also like the sound of slide and how it sounds like Texas country music. Inspiring.

I first heard him in 85/86 when I was just a young 14 yr old. I'm now 53 years old and still love The Smiths/Morrissey as if I had just heard him for the first time. His music is further removed from what music is today in the most melodic of ways that listening to him now brings back emotions and feelings not felt in so many years. The girls I met and danced with in the new wave days of the 80's and 90's. Kind of makes me sad how times have greatly changed for the worst kind. I want to go back to those days so badly even for a day just so I can forget how times are now. Heaven knows I'm miserable now.
