After getting Viva Hate I wondered if the smiths magic could be recaptured. Yes, I’m losing Johnny he undoubtedly lost something very special but the whole viva hate album was a massive statement of intent. “I can still produce excellent, standout records even after losing a genius”
Stephen and I used to walk the endless meadow landscape of Moss Side in Manchester during school summer holidays. He was forever singing and I remember him vowing to be bigger than Benny from Abba at one point, or was it Benny from Crossroads? anyway to have been so close to what became such a massive iconic figure is a privilege of my mental illness. Stephen used to say things that at the time seemed so random and out of place but as history has shown were actually quite amazingly insightful. A couple of examples of what mean: One day on the Moss Side meadow as we coupled endless daisies together to make a daisy chain (that still holds the Claremont Road daisy chain record 252 daisies or 621 inches) Stephen. or as he liked to be called then Stephen turned to me and said 'Mike Joyce is a money grabbing talentless drum stick holder isn't he?' I replied 'I don't know who is he?'. Stephen said weirdly 'someone I have yet to meet but trust me and what I say'. I said 'ok'. Later that day when we had been crowned Claremont Road Daisy Chain Champions 1976 (2nd year running) Stephen turned to me and said ' I will admit that leaving the band at the height of their success left me feeling vulnerable and I will fear for my future but who could have guessed that as solo Morrissey I will sell out stadiums all over the world, particularly in Mexico and be bigger than the Smiths ever were'. I said 'what?' and Stephen said ' oh, ignore me it's the Perrier gone straight to my head.' I asked 'who are the Smiths and are they causing you trouble?'. Stephen said ' Who are the Smiths..exactly and no they can't bother me'. it was all very cryptic back then looking and listening to a 17 year old Morrissey Daisy Chain Champ (twice over) but as I said with what history has taught us it's as if he knew his destiny.

I have a wonderful memory of being a teen, the car loaded with my friends, and this song blaring at full volume. We were headed to a house party in Hollywood, not a care in the world or a dollar in our pockets. Everything was a big deal, yet nothing else mattered; just being together. We would kill or die for each other without question. Twenty years later, three of those friends are no longer with us and this song reminds me of them. RIP guys, you're loved and missed greatly; thank you for being a vital part of my life and I look forward to seeing you again in the next world.
Listening to this song on repeat as I travel to the hospital where my Dad is in critical care. This songs with its lyrics and melody is keeping me intact during this hard time. Thanks, Moz, you crazy, brilliant lad.
I went to Fairmount today (April 8th 2024) and saw the TOTAL ECLIPSE. There was almost nobody else there ! Retraced Morrissey's steps, of course, including the town and James Dean's old house and barn. It was epic !!
I have been a Smiths/Morrissey fan since the 80’s and I am 47 now. Morrissey’s singing just takes you to a calming place no matter what is going on around you. The power of Morrissey’s voice and lyrics are amazing then and now.
Even almost 40 years later, lyrics and music defined as be the best ever made in this miserable world... THE SMITHS and MORRISSEY feels like it was ART of the highest level...
Me! And all my beautiful memories from the 80' makes me fly 🕊️ back when I was so young,And this English Gentleman captivated me completely, while I was drinking a Johny Walker! Awesome!
@@raulcervantescontreras8194 I apologize, my internet has been down since 3 am Sunday morning until just a few minutes ago. I was already 29 and in the Navy in San Diego but have I'm sure, the same Great type of memories my friend. Have a Great week.
I remember as a kid listening to the music charts on the radio I had my cassette ready to record. And I listened to that song all the time even with the dj talking into the intro😄
I'm 13, my dad brought me up with this sort of music - with the stone roses also, and I showed a couple of friends this genre/type of music and they all liked it; they said it's better than all the new songs, they have meaning and real talent behind them
qlock 18 don't worry about the cynicism shown by people like Blankface; people who Morrissey would have dismissive disdain for. You keep educating your teenage mates - plenty more bands out there cut from similar cloth; Inspiral Carpets, James, The Cure, The Jam, The Undertones and a wealth of talent from across the Pond; The Pixies, R.E.M. , 10,000 Maniacs.....(P.S. don't bother with the Grateful Dead - they were sh!t)
This song along with The Cure Just Like Heaven and The Church Under The Milky Way have a very ethereal sound to them that just can be duplicated. The 80s was the last great decade of music period.
@@Wyottt At 47, I’m good and honestly don’t feel the need or envie at all to discover new bands to listen to although I will check this one out as I appreciate you taking the time to recommend them. Really, the best part of listening to these old albums and CDs from high school and college are the memories attached to the songs. Again - please do not think I don’t appreciate the recommendation! And I forgot to mention Fugazi and Jesus Lizard as being 2 other bands that were a blast seeing live. The Breeders, Throwing Muses, and Frank Black’s solo tour were probably some of the best shows I’ve seen.
@@naomievlahogeorge7958 I've gotten into the Sunday's, Cocteau Twins, and Lush this past year. Love all of them! I'll make sure to check out those other artists too :) I know Wild Nothing was inspired by the smiths and sounds very dreamy so that's why I recommended
This is where James Dean grew up in a small town in Indiana. He was born on February 8th, 1931 (and died in 1955, the same year "Rebel Without a Cause" came out). I wouldn't be surprised if Morrissey filmed this video on his exact birthday since it's obviously winter in this clip. *Edit: LOL-- he actually wrote "Morrissey--Feb. 7th, 1988" on a wall. Man, I can't believe this song is that old. I thought it was from the '90s!
Never give up... this song proofs we all are special if you get emotional by hearing it its because its in you. ONLY YOU CAN BRING THE BEST OUT OF YOUR SELF...WE ARE ALL CREEPS . AND WE DO BELONG HERE.
My all time favorite song as a lonely 16 year old. This single helped me get over the grief of the Smiths splitting up. Couldn’t publicly admit that I was gay until I was 19. So I secretly loved Morrissey for 3 years instead. The sadness in the tone was the empathy I needed. Thanks Mozz.

I also like ,that you show +care for animals ,it,s just awefull , seen so many video,s it,s a crying shame on so called humanity 😢
I saw morrisy in nyc. Like a while ago.good show.
Simply the best. Takes me back to my younger years but lately listening again to the great Morrissey and The Smiths. Blows today's music away.
RIP guys, you're loved and missed greatly; thank you for being a vital part of my life and I look forward to seeing you again in the next world.

you would kill for another? you would associate with those who would kill for you? not trolling, just scratching my ..head peace
Its called poetic license
I totally get what you're saying.....

Morrissey, Morrissey, Morrissey❣️
Lonely but Fabulous! 🫶🏾
Still listening! Going to see Morrissey Tonight!💖💖💖
Listening to this song on repeat as I travel to the hospital where my Dad is in critical care. This songs with its lyrics and melody is keeping me intact during this hard time. Thanks, Moz, you crazy, brilliant lad.
How's your dad doing now?
@@v-town1980 he passed away the same day, sadly. He loved The Smiths and ol' Moz. Thanks for asking.
Best wishes fella
I wish you and your family the best
Morryssey saudades @
Morrissey has never looked better! I just love this song. It gets an A+.
This kind of music simply age like wine, never gets obsolete or boring, always stay strong towards the modern music
Brasil ama essa canção eu amo esssa canção ❤
Living in another country, feeling alone. Away from friends, family and remembering what my adolescence was like listening to this masterpiece…
My brother loved Morrissy music..But hes gone now. I can remember him through his music. Its weird everyday when I go to work I here a song he liked.
I went to Fairmount today (April 8th 2024) and saw the TOTAL ECLIPSE. There was almost nobody else there ! Retraced Morrissey's steps, of course, including the town and James Dean's old house and barn. It was epic !!
Saudades, saudades, saudades
My fav song of all time.
Ana Lucia mine too...
The Bents 👍

Love his music.
I have been a Smiths/Morrissey fan since the 80’s and I am 47 now. Morrissey’s singing just takes you to a calming place no matter what is going on around you. The power of Morrissey’s voice and lyrics are amazing then and now.
me too
Yes👍💚💙💛🇧🇷🎶🎶
im 64...and still a fan..
nostalgia total...
I can imagine the director of this video "Aww can you breathe a little harder to show some steam?".
Even almost 40 years later, lyrics and music defined as be the best ever made in this miserable world... THE SMITHS and MORRISSEY feels like it was ART of the highest level...
It is my friend, it is.
Wow has it been that long ? I'm getting old . Lol I'm 52 now

Me! And all my beautiful memories from the 80' makes me fly 🕊️ back when I was so young,And this English Gentleman captivated me completely, while I was drinking a Johny Walker! Awesome!
Watching one of my favorite videos from Fairmont, WV. I hope that everyone who reads this has an excellent life.
Bonitos recuerdos de cuando llo era adolecente
@@raulcervantescontreras8194 I apologize, my internet has been down since 3 am Sunday morning until just a few minutes ago. I was already 29 and in the Navy in San Diego but have I'm sure, the same Great type of memories my friend. Have a Great week.
You are a good man, have a nice week and excellent life as well
Amém 🙏
Birthplace of James Dean is Fairmont, IN., FYI. I hope you have a lovely, excellent life too!
Morrissey always looked so natural driving that tractor.
Haha! I was just thinking how he looked so out of place on it.
Morrissey can't drive...... was shitting himself during filming. x
bs27v1b the Smith está no meu sangue
I remember as a kid listening to the music charts on the radio I had my cassette ready to record. And I listened to that song all the time even with the dj talking into the intro😄
Morrissey and his melodic voice ❤❤❤
I'm 13, my dad brought me up with this sort of music - with the stone roses also, and I showed a couple of friends this genre/type of music and they all liked it; they said it's better than all the new songs, they have meaning and real talent behind them
Do you think people are impressed by you being 13 and listening to post punk? Because no one is.
B L A N K F A C E Smiths/Moz arent post punk
The smiths and morrissey are both post punk
qlock 18 don't worry about the cynicism shown by people like Blankface; people who Morrissey would have dismissive disdain for.
Try 103.5. And KOLA.
Bought this back in 1988, still have it, in mint condition....
I'm almost 40, and my girls are 7&8 and they stumbled across this song. We love Morrissey
agreed
uma obra prima .
@@uncharteddrake9975 Sim, uma obra prima. Não havia percebido meu erro. Obrigado!
This song along with The Cure Just Like Heaven and The Church Under The Milky Way have a very ethereal sound to them that just can be duplicated. The 80s was the last great decade of music period.
Absolutely. I feel blessed to have seen all of those bands live in high school - also The Sundays, Cocteau Twins, Lush, Belly...so many great bands!
you need to listen to some modern dream pop. Try Nocturne by Wild Nothing
Super duper morrissey so morrissey 😬💙💙
This is where James Dean grew up in a small town in Indiana. He was born on February 8th, 1931 (and died in 1955, the same year "Rebel Without a Cause" came out). I wouldn't be surprised if Morrissey filmed this video on his exact birthday since it's obviously winter in this clip.
*Edit: LOL-- he actually wrote "Morrissey--Feb. 7th, 1988" on a wall. Man, I can't believe this song is that old. I thought it was from the '90s!
I thought it was from the early 90s as well.
I can't believe I was 17 about to turn 18 when this video was made. I love the time stamp of Morrissey's graffiti on the school wall.
A legend visiting another legend. RIP James Dean.
My wife is a huge fan, and I became hooked lol.
Gen x here born 68. This guy has written the theme song to most of my life. I had a diary and somebody snuck into my room and read it.
Baby boomer, here still rocking out to this song, I'm 65 years old.

This song is brilliant - a true masterpiece!
I'm a one man band on youtube. Hope you can enjoy one of my songs.

It's genial!!
Me too, perfect for it
come Armagedon come ;)
Haha, me neither!
Im here 2024😂👏👏👏👏
My number one favourite song ever , always fresh and touches my soul. Thank you Morrisey xxx 💞
