Thank you for this...always was a fan of Flying Continental. Also, it was rough watching that little clip of Jeff Lukas, given what happened to him a few years later. Same with Izvestia. There's a lot of bittersweetness to these old clips.
Flying Continental was one of the supposedly weak group of Cali based 3 year olds of 1989 that Sunday Silence repeatedly spanked. Not only did Flying Continental win the Jockey Club Gold Cup as a 4 year old in 1990, he also won the gr.1 Strub and gr.2 San Fernando.
@@DanielSong39 Not really. He won a total of two G1 races his entire career while losing 39 of 51 career races; and you couldn't find him with binoculars in the Kentucky Derby and Breeders Cup Classic where he finished up the track far back. And that year of 1990 twas decimated by all the career ending injuries of the older horses Easy Goer, Sunday Silence and Criminal Type; and the 3 year olds of that year were not that good - Unbridled, Summer Squall, Go and Go, Rhythm, Thirty Six Red, Shotgun Scott, etc.
