- சார்லஸ் ஹேடன் ஸ்பர்ஜன் (19 ஜூன் 1834 - 31 ஜனவரி 1892) : பிரசங்கி, போதகர், மேய்ப்பர், கல்வியாளர், சீர்திருத்தவாதி, தூய்மையாளர், சமூகச் சிந்தனையாளர். இவர் கிறிஸ்தவர்களிடையே மிகவும் செல்வாக்குப் பெற்றவர், பிரபலமானவர். இவர் "பிரசங்கிகளின் இளவரசர்" என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறார். இவருடைய கொடைகளும், கர்த்தராகிய இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின்மேல் இவர் கொண்டிருந்த பக்தியும் அசாதாரணமானவை. எனவே, தேவனுக்கு மகிமையாக, இவருடைய உழைப்பும், ஊழியமும் மிகவும் பலனுள்ளவையாகவும், பயனுள்ளவையாகவும், பொருளுள்ளவையாகவும், கனிநிறைந்தவையாகவும் இருந்தன.
இவர் அன்றைய சீர்திருத்த காலத்தில், அறியொணாவாதத்தையும், நாத்திகத்தையும் எதிர்த்தார். புதிய இறையியல் என்றழைக்கப்பட்ட வேதகாமத்துக்கு எதிரான கருத்தை மும்முரமாக எதிர்த்தார்.
இவருடைய போதகர்கள் கல்லூரி, அநாதை இல்லங்கள், முதியோர் இல்லம், பள்ளிக்கூடம், சமுதாயத்தில் விளிம்புநிலை மக்களுக்கு இவர் ஆற்றிய தொண்டு ஆகியவைகள் மறக்கமுடியாதவை.
ஸ்பர்ஜன் 38 ஆண்டுகளாக இலண்டனில் உள்ள நியூ பார்க் ஸ்ட்ரீட் சபையின் சபையின் போதகராக இருந்தார். பின்னாட்களில் அது மெட்ரோபோலிட்டன் டபெர்னாகில் என்றழைக்கப்பட்டது. பிரசங்கங்கள், சுயவரலாறு, பொழிப்புரை, ஜெபத்தைப்பற்றிய புத்தகங்கள், பக்தி நூல்கள், பத்திரிகைகள், கவிதைகள், பாடல்கள் என அவருடைய படைப்புகள் நீண்டுகொண்டேபோகின்றன. இவருடைய பிரசங்கங்கள், புத்தகங்கள், அவர் வாழ்ந்த காலத்திலேயே பல மொழிகளில் மொழிபெயர்க்கப்பட்டன. அவருடைய பிரசங்கம் கேட்போரைக் கட்டிப்போட்டது. இன்றும் கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் அவருடைய எழுத்துக்களை மிக உயர்வாகக் கருதுகின்றனர்.
