He also plays saxophone at the highest level and speaks fluent Mandarin... We tend to use the word "talent" a lot, we talk a lot about "talent" when we gasp in awe of these amazing performers. But let's not forget - talent is just a starting point. Then you put in the work. Literally tens of thousands of hours of hard work to hone that skill. This is what Kevin, all of PTX, and all of the top tier performers have done, and keep doing, to be where they are. Just pointing that out.
His talents are truly amazing, but from what I've heard, his dedication to work and to learning and expanding what he can do is also very impressive. It is a joy to watch how he grew and blossomed as a musician since his earliest days on the Sing Off.
Just in case you really want to say his last name correctly (he is of Nigerian heritage), it is pronounced "Oh- LOOSH-uh-luh." The "LOOSH" part is the accented syllable. Also.... a few more amazing facts about Mr. Kevin. For high school he went to a private academy in New England. His father is a psychiatrist, originally from Nigeria, and Kevin's folks had great expectations for him. He went to Yale, enrolling in pre-Med classes to become a doctor. As school continued he decided he wanted to work in the mission field as a doctor, so he spent 1-1/2 years in China where he learned Mandarin. He started taking cello lessons early and in college entered a contest where the grand prize was getting to play with world renowned cello player, Yo Yo Ma. Kevin came in 2nd place and Yo Yo Mo said Kevin's cello playing was the most creative. He also plays a wicked sax. He learned how to beatbox and play cello at the same time in China. He's also the most humble performer out there today. He is invested in his PTX family, and sees them exactly as that. Everything he does for PTX is for the group, not for himself individually. He is married and has a baby daughter who was born last spring. If you want to see how PTX all started, watch their "Sing Off" competition videos. That is where Kevin and Avi first started with the trio (Scott, Mitch and Kirstie) who had been together since they were kids in Texas. Kevin's parents were slow to warm up to Kevin's choice of music being his life, instead of medicine, but they are great about it now.
i will say i thought he only finished pre med just before the sing off not that he finished medical school. but he could have gone back and finished afterwards. also his mom and dad are both psychiatrists and his sister is also a doctor.
Kevin’s mom is a nurse originally from Grenada. His sister went to pharmacy school and his brother went to med school. I saw his family talking about it earlier in PTX’s career, so I’m not sure what is going on with them now.
If you were to ask any of PTX who's the most talented, they'd all say Kevin without any hesitation. He's too humble and a soft cinnamon roll to accept and concur with the accolades. He's just amazing, as are the rest of them!
Kevin is Yale educated and would be a doctor if he hadn’t gotten that call from Scott (who called him after viewing a UA-cam video of his). He speaks several languages fluently including Cantonese! He’s one SMART cookie❤️😘
Thank you for reacting to Kevin's video. Everything on his UA-cam channel is amazing. I hope that you will react to more of his work. He is brilliant. If Scott had not called to ask him to become part of a new group he was forming (Pentatonix), Kevin would be a doctor by now. He graduated from Yale and had been excepted to Yale Medical School. Life can take strange and wonderful turns.
He MIGHT be a doctor... on the other hand, he had also been applied to and been accepted at Berklee (which Matt latter attended) for graduate studies in music. So it looks like his talents were also pushing him toward music, and he was still making his mind up. We'll never know, I guess, about that alternate reality.
Such a great reaction. Kevin really is a gem! He also contributes to so much more than just the beat for Pentatonix. He harmonizes a lot in the background and occasionally has solo vocals. He also is an integral part of the arranging and a couple of my favourite songs of Pentatonix are ones he wrote. Next time you watch Pentatonix you may see a Kevin solo part. Amazing Grace from Pentatonix is a great video to do next.
What's you gonna do now? Oh, wait, he's not done yet. Love that little smile at the end. BTW, when Kevin does the digidi dum dum sound (or however he does that), you will notice if you listen carefully, that he does it again in another video that you have watched, The Wizard of Ahhhs. He does it between Scotts 'do ya, do ya, do ya' and Mitch's solo part as the tin man. When Scott sings 'do ya' .. Kevin is behind doing what he does best, but if you listen carefully, he does the transition between Scott and Mitch. He's so talented and doesn't get as much credit as he should get.
Thanks for your reaction! Yes Kevin is amazing! He is also a great saxophone player and played it at Carnegie Hall when he was a teenager still in high school. Please react to this video "From The Top: Live From Carnegie Hall-2005" it has a wonderful interview with Kevin after his performance that you will love.
Kevin is literally the most talented person i've seen ever ;) if you want to check out something different, but, also such a cool and amazing talented group, you should check out Walk off the earth! check out their covers of Savage Love, Old Town Road, Royals, and Shape of you! they like to use instruments that are not traditional. very creative and fun to watch :)
When Kevin Olusola was 12 years old, he was selected as the principal saxophonist of the United States Collegiate (college level) Wind Band and toured Europe during the summer for three weeks. He skipped 10th grade and excelled in everything he did. He was the principal cellist of the Kentucky State Youth Orchestra and received the highest honor at the Kentucky Governor's School for the Arts. He soloed at cello and performed in a piano trio at Carnegie Hall as the winner of the American Fine Arts Festival, and soloed a second time at Carnegie Hall on alto saxophone for PBS’s special "From the Top at Carnegie Hall". As a Rhodes Scholar Kevin finished pre-med at Yale. He won runner-up cello in Yo-Yo Ma’s "Celebrate and Collaborate With Yo-Yo Ma" competition and opened for KRS-One at Southern Connecticut State University. Olusola says that, during that spring break, his pre-med mentor C. Brandon Ogbunu (who was an MD/PhD student at Yale at the time) helped him to make the decision to finally go into music, saying medicine would always be there. Kevin speaks fluent Mandarin, having studied in China for years. (ua-cam.com/video/_9e4pbCrL54/v-deo.html) . In 2011 Kevin posted a video on You Tube playing the cello and beat boxing at the same time. When Scott, Mitch, & Kirstin were looking for a beat box in order to compete on "The Sing Off", they saw his video and contacted him. No one (except his mom) knew he could sing until he joined Pentatonix. Now you know!
Kevin is the one person that ptx could not recover from if he left. like that would be the end of ptx. ofc the trio are the most talented people in the world but i said they wouldn't survive if any one of them left but they did. but seriously there is no one as talented as or as creative as Kevin!
Yes, we each have our own gifts. Most are more modest, Kevin has been blessed and has practiced to perfect his gifts. You also have a gift for creating this kind of entrainment on UA-cam. Thank you. My suggestions - going in 2 very different directions. First, something totally different from what I've seen here, but I think you'll like (musically and lyrically)... The Indigo Girls, and one of my favorite songs, "Galileo." And then... Eminem, with the uncensored "Cleanin' Out My Closet" - lyric video, if possible, to let the song sing for itself (the video is good but I find distracting).
There are hundreds of PTX videos out there. I've only listened to a few dozen of them, but here is a short list of what I would recommend. Oh Come All Ye Faithful with an African Flavor, Be My Eyes, a Pentatonix original featuring Kirstin, Can You See the Love Tonight from The Lion King, Cheerleader (a fun one), Mary Did You Know (sung in the Bat Cave), The Prayer, Can't Hold Us (Rap), and Sing, a Pentatonix original. This is only a small sampling of what Pentaonix can do.
K.O. is a beast -- from when he was 17 years old: ua-cam.com/video/cg-WQl3YCVY/v-deo.html and just a few years ago doing pretty much an improv jam: ua-cam.com/video/bqvm0oWUmdw/v-deo.html
Dude may be the most talented in PTX with everything he can do...it's kinda scary...pretty sure he stole my talent ...pretty sure,...Yep, Omelets count..😁. dude speaks Mandarin Chinese too!!!! Kevin = alien...once again....pretty sure.
I am making this request from my favorite reactors. November is Alzheimers awareness month so could you please react to Glenn Campbell's final recording after being diagnosed with Alzheimers in his early 70s? It is I'm Not Gonna Miss You dedicated to all affected by this horrid disease.
Omg kevin is so damn good....he can do anything....too damn AMAZING...LOVE YOU KEVIN❤
My favorite part is actually his big ole' grin and his laugh at the end
Kevin is a magical unicorn, that is all.
Facts
And he's having SO. MUCH. FUN!!! Just look at him smiling!!
You got KO’d! He’s so very good.
Every single member of Pentatonix is/are MASTERS of their own craft. Period! Kevin is a force of nature! Amazing!
Thanks for saying most of what was on my mind. The comment: " I can make a mean omelette, does that count?"... Brilliant.
Yes yes yes! We love KO! Its in between the cello for me with the "ooohh"
Kevin is simply amazing!!!
That little smirk at the end like "yeah...that's right"....
Now you will hear him in PTX five part harmonies - that's a gift that keeps on giving after having seen this.
He also plays saxophone at the highest level and speaks fluent Mandarin...

@@margaretkichenama2040 i can boil an egg but can't peel it to save my life no matter how many 100's of 'tricks' to make it easier i try! hahaha

Gotta love his smile at the end like “Yeah, I killed it!”

You did get “KO’d”!!!!
Every time I watch that my favorite part is Kevin's smile at the end.
Incredible!🎶💕
Clicked just to see your face when he kicks it off. lol

He has played cello at Carnegie Hall. He has also played sax there as well.
WE TRIED TO TELL YOU!🤣
Unico
By FAR the best reaction I've seen to this masterpiece, and I've watched them all. Good for you, enjoying it thoroughly
Yeah, so much talent in one guy. If he had stuck with his medical stuff we would be done with cancer by now.
Kevin is literally the most talented person i've seen ever ;)

Your reaction is PRICELESS!Please react to Renegade by Kevin Olusola! It is absolutely AMAZING 😍
Nice reaction! Yes, Kevin makes the rest of us feel under-talented. (Slight adjustment to the last name: it's closer to "oh-LOO-sho-la.")

You should check out his original called Renegade
Lmao!! Yes. I’m sure your omelette is perfectly good enough. Haha! Best comment ever. Haha
You have been KO'ed.
Edited: Kevin has just become a first time dad also
Perhaps you know he plays a mean Saxophone and speaks fluent Chinese.

Kevin also is fluent in 7 languages.
Amazing right?! Loved your reaction!
FYI - Kevin also has a pre-med from Yale and speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese. I am STILL figuring out the omelet!

LOL oh this is not the place for you then , they are just words here, all harmless.

I'll check it out - terrible disease indeed - my wife's grandmother had it....its bad.
