And Messi's first goal for Barcelona happened after a brilliant Ronaldinho's assist. Neymar playing for Santos (2010-2013) was almost like that technically speaking but with a bad energy, a lot of fake dives, cocky moments, bad attittude, etc. Ronaldinho's playing was just joy and happiness without disrespect, just magic skills and fun. Just look at his face smiling all the time while playing.

I'm 48 years old. Grew up watching many many great players (and still watching). My favorite player of all time is Ronaldinho! Being honest, I could concede that perhaps he is not the greatest player of all time. However, I would stand my ground that he is without a doubt the most exciting player of all-time. He was a pioneer in a new style of soccer. It seemed that he did something amazing, jaw-dropping, and new every single game. He may not have invented some of the moves/tricks he displayed, but he "turned them up to 11." The "Elastico" move in particular, the way he executed it, was absolutely lethal. The first time I saw him do that, I was like, "What just happened?!" (Rewound the VHS tape after the game was over). Above all else, he absolutely loved the game. Always smiling and just as happy as could be. Very few non-Real Madrid players have received a standing ovation while playing at Real Madrid. Ronaldinho is one of them.

There are great legends in soccer, but no one was as good as Ronaldinho. He was as complete as you can imagine the perfect soccer player should be. He had a lot of control of the ball, he was strong, he was fast, very quick on his feet to decide which play to go for, knew how to kick, how to pass the ball, how to steal the ball from his adversaries, how to create unusual favorable situations for his teams, how to demoralize his adversaries just by playing his natural self, he always prefered to continue the play instead of askings the judge for a fault. And he did all that with a smile on his face. Most legends are outstanding at one, two, three of those aspects, but he was really complete, he had it all. You can watch as many videos as you want about him, and I can garantee you that it won't be a waste of time. =)

In his prime he was so good there was nobody even close enough to play against. I was lucky enough to watch. The speed and skill just effortless, he really enjoyed playing and it was always fun to watch 🙂. He made top players in europe look like amateurs sometimes 😃
Ronaldinho is the reason I started watching football watched him in the 2002 World Cup final when I was young and immediately fell in love with his play style to this day he is still my favorite of all time.

Ronaldinho was the most skillful player there has ever been in soccer. He worked magic on the pitch. Not even Neymar, Messi or Cristiano came close to doing similar things. I remember a time when Brazil played a friendly match against an African country that was at war, and the war simply stopped to watch Ronaldinho. He was insane! There are great legends in soccer, but no one was as good as Ronaldinho. He was as complete as you can imagine the perfect soccer player should be. He had a lot of control of the ball, he was strong, he was fast, very quick on his feet to decide which play to go for, knew how to kick, how to pass the ball, how to steal the ball from his adversaries, how to create unusual favorable situations for his teams, how to demoralize his adversaries just by playing his natural self, he always prefered to continue the play instead of askings the judge for a fault. And he did all that with a smile on his face. Most legends are outstanding at one, two, three of those aspects, but he was really complete, he had it all. You can watch as many videos as you want about him, and I can garantee you that it won't be a waste of time. =)

He uses his both legs equally efficient making the defender hopeless against him. He is a magician an artist. The defender will never know if he will pass or go thru or kick the ball. If you watch a complete game you will notice that the defenders were beating him up. Like hearting him. He combines the best players ever and he does it all with a smile. R10 when he plays everyone are watching even the players. GOD of football.

As already said in the comments, Ronaldinho did not have such a long career playing at a high level. But while he played his skill was unparalleled. It's not just a matter of him entertaining and making bold moves but rather when and how he did them. He dribbled in decisive moments, against the biggest rivals, the biggest defenders, the biggest clubs in the world in the biggest football competitions. Messi is his fan. Unfortunately he wasn't a sportsman like Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi or Pelé, and he didn't have as full a career - but in terms of skill he is the second greatest in history.
