It’s a good day when there’s a new virtual Sherpa video!
did elbert is 92 in July. You snowboarding down is totally awesome!!!
This video gives me goosebumps. Elbert is my first 14er and I took the same route. I watched one of your older videos to get some analysis on Elbert. Really appreciate you making these videos. This is in some way making our hikes easier and well prepared.
Hi, thanks for another excellent video. We were there a few days ago, too. Impressed that you were all alone on the summit. Here is our funny story from there: it was two of us from Florida and our sherpa friend who summited Everest 9 times. On the way down someone asked him if this was his first 14er; he answered just with :"yes"
Hahahahaha
That looks like a crap load of fun! I’ll stick to my skis though 😉
Part of the 30% W00T!
Appreciate it 🙏
Love Elbert, my first 14er! Such a cool mode of travel on the way down!
Beats hiking any day of the week 🏂
I'm a big fan of this channel. Please what summit you recommend for a first time hike in the rockie mountains. The one you love the most (nice route, not too difficult, scenery, etc) Thanks.
Love it man!!
Best of luck with the move!
nice corn
It had the juice
What recommendations can you give me to climb Mt Elbert in October?
Love your work and commitment to all you do! Thank you! Your videos are super helpful and inspirational. In this video you mentioned a discount to Onyx... where would that be?
Thank you very much and Onx info - all in the description👍
@@TheVirtualSherpa found it.... needed to click the "show more"
hey dude! Love all your videos, as I'm in the process of doing all the 14ers (I live in AZ, so did 21 last summer, and going to do another 20 or so this summer). I'll be in CO the first two weeks in July bagging peaks -- was curious as to what you think the snow conditions will be like during that time? I'll be doing the Chicago Basin 4, all the ones near Aspen, then Holy Cross going south to Elbert, Massive, La Plata, Huron, down to Yale and Columbia (not sure on order)
Check out the OnX link in the description, they have a map that shows layers and one is amount of snow based on satellite images. In general, pray for warm weather and start North and work South. Chicago Basin might be very tricky as a dry route still, snow levels in the SJs are still very very high in most areas.
@@TheVirtualSherpa thanks, I might try the free 14 day trial for this time. Why north to south? i would think there would be more snow the further north I go -- and that I would want to do south facing routes/approaches where possible
South got much more snow than the North this year and you will have far less snow up North.
During the drone shot before you said it crashed I had a gut feeling there would be a crash lol
You nailed it haha - first one with this drone and the luckily it was right on top of the snow so no damage done.
Are there any particular routes you plan to do this year, or are you more spontaneously in deciding what to take on?
Always have a list but more focused on my trail running goals at the moment so its sort of what works with my schedule/weather/free time etc.
How should you prepare for snowboarding elbert ?

Hey Sherpa, what was the date of this trip?
About two weeks ago but the couloirs are still in. Summit ski, not so much. FFR, you can always see when I hiked something over on my website and scroll down to the Garmin embed. www.thevirtualsherpa.com/mt-elbert-box-couloirs/
whats the avy danger with that kind of snow?
Depends on the day, time of year, snow levels etc. This was during the spring when the snow was mostly consolidated and the major danger was wet slides which are fairly easy to predict (get on snow early and off early). Talk a bit more about that all here: ua-cam.com/video/JRFOFfNiLZ0/v-deo.htmlsi=TCebBGL_hsNBRiKn
