    Hi Peta, I have learned so much about coloring with colored pencils by doing the "duck pond" with you. I have also learned how to use the Derwent Inktense pencils by following along with you in "The Magical City" book when you did the picture in Paris. Now I would like to learn some basic water coloring techniques from you and was hoping you could do an in-depth picture from this book when you have some time. Thank you very much!

    This book looks amazing! :) And I love your explanation about watercolour pallets. :)
    I am getting the book in 2 days and my plan is to colour in it with my Derwent Inktense pencils mainly and perhaps some of my Faber-Castell Albrecht Dürer ones. Can't wait to get started. :)

    Immediately went to order this from Amazon. I had no idea there were watercoloring books, I've been so disappointed with most of mine even a few that seem to have mixed media paper. I haven't been able to play with my Inktense pencils as much as I would like, I want to be able to go all out with them paper designed to deal with more water. Thanks so much for showing us

    Kristys books are amazing. She did a great job and thought about everything. Literally everything we could ever want or need in a coloring book let alone a watercolor book is in this book. I have all but the pattern book and love them. I haven't been able to paint recently but so look forward to share finished pages on Kristys Instagram! So for all who do get these books be sure to share what you've done! I love to see everyone's take on coloring books and they can inspire others as well. Great review Peta!!

    You must be a mind reader Peta! I purchased this book a couple of months ago not having a bit of watercolor experience. I was just thinking yesterday that it would be great to see you do a watercolor tutorial (since I've learned so much from your others) because I've been really reluctant to try on my own. And BAM! Here is a water coloring tutorial from Peta using the very book I have! Thank you! I'm going to give it a go as soon as I finish my Paris picture in The Magical City!

    This was a great beginners lesson in watercolor. Your explanations are very clear. I also love your brand of paint and have a few tubes. I have been playing with water media blenders in my coloring books and it is fun and pretty but not like when you can bring the water to it. However I am not getting any bleed through with the blenders. I don't have any watercolor books yet.

    Just recently moved from colored pencils to watercolor and your videos have the same relaxed feel but as always with plenty of useful tips. I noticed you've been away from the web for some months...family always comes first, but just hoping that things are working their way out and you are able to find your joy as you so generously share your love of art with us. Blessings to you, dear Mrs. Hewitt. XX

      Thank you Linda. 2017 was not a good year for us but this year will be better. I hope it's a great one for you too.

      @lindasmith8625 6 років тому

      Mrs. Hewitt, I once heard that when you hit rock bottom, whatever the reason, to remember that you're actually standing on a great foundation for which great change for the better can happen. May 2018 be a year filled with great joy, health and of course, art. You give so much of yourself when you share your gift in your videos. My prayer for you and your family is that you be blessed tenfold. ❤️

    • @PetaHewitt
      @PetaHewitt  6 років тому

      I wish the same for you and ypur family. Last year was a challenging year but I've watched my family grow and learn from it. I am healing slowly from my injury (presently I am typing to you from my hospital room) This year will be a good year. I can feel it.

    • @lindasmith8625
      @lindasmith8625 6 років тому

      Oh, I am so sorry to hear you had a serious injury and hope you heal quickly and are out of the hospital as soon as is possible. You are right about the growth that happens during the most difficult of times, but it can be bloody hell during the process! You definitely seem to be a "half full" kind of gal and that is so very important and a great example to your family; especially your children and other young relatives. Positivity is so much more powerful than most people realize and will serve you well as you continue in your healing process. If we believe that things will improve, they will, but the opposite is true as well. I have included you and your family in my prayers. God speed and know that you are missed, as your art blesses all of your followers. You can actually hear positivity and joy in your voice when you share your artistic gift. Thank you for that! XX❤️😃

    • @PetaHewitt
      @PetaHewitt  6 років тому

      Thank you, Linda. I am very grateful for your prayers. My philosophy is that is easy to set a good example when things are going well. It's when things are difficult that the example you set is most important. I think I teach me children how to deal with bad times by showing them how I deal with them. It's all learning experience. :)

    Oh hey! I have a couple of these books and I keep thinking about doing a review on them because they’re super interesting. I do think there are some problems I overall have, like the fiddly details are a little overwhelming for me while trying to use watercolors (I think it would be easier with pencils instead), but if you let go of trying to actually fill in each spot precisely and just let the paint slosh around a bit..... it can be fun!
    I also really like that the same image is printed on both sides, which you mentioned is great for practice, and may be the solution to my problem of stressing out over the tiny details as mentioned above. =>.

    Hi PETA I have a few of these books and on my own I made a mess , lol ! Say with the cherries you did , I know you said make enough paint and water on your pallet . After you do wash , leave white areas and let dry . My question is when you go back with darker red to add details , do you use same water/paint from pallet for second time for detail , or make mix of same color less water ? Or use a totally different darker red? When I tried own my own with a prima pallet I make color mixer on try way to dark and I guess added it to illustration as if brush was a pencil or marker . Painting not water coloring . I hope you see this even video been a while . I going to grab book now and play around. Haven’t touched it again in two years .i love you tutorials

      Hi Cuppy. I have a handful of zig watercolour brush pens I picked up in Singapore. I tested them on this paper and they responded very well. Pick your least favourite page to use to get the hang of them... as you know art materials can react differently depending on the paper. But i encourage you to have fun and go for it.

However, I don't know if mine is defective but I have used mission gold paint and tried W&N professional paints on it with not too much water and the paper pills on me. Thanks Mia. Just to clarrify, Steven, Ko-I-Noor have two colour wheel water colour sets. one is normal which comes in a black plastic wheel and the other is their 'Brilliant'. I use the 'Brilliant' because the colours are, quite frankly, amazingly rich in pigment. I like this set for colouring line art as they are mostly translucent.

    Thank you for this review, after watching your video I am so eager to order this books on Amazon. Please, please, tell me where I can find that black watercolor brushes the one that was sent to you for this review. I want it soooo bad! Also, would you be doing any review on the inktense blocks from derwent? i know you used the inktense pencils already in one of your coloring books and it looks amazing. I just purchased the blocks but I'm having a hard time figuring out where or how to use them.

    When the Artist's Loft watercolors dry, and you touch them, does the color transfer? Someone told me that they did and I don't want to buy them if they do.

      When they dry,, if you run your finger across,, they will come up chalky like pastels

    You must have read my mind, my watercolour pencils just came in the mail the other day, and I've been really thinking about buying a cheap set of actual watercolour paints.

    I'm a new subscriber. Your top tips and tutorials really helped dig deeper into my creative ability. One observation, I have scanned many comments left along with so many easy for u to answer questions. Maybe I might've missed some, but I didn't see a REPLY back from your end to so many of your loyal subscribers... 😕

      Hi. Yes I've probably missed lots of questions. I am active on many different social media platforms and I tend to get a lot of comments and questions. I try to answer as many as I can but it is time consuming. I have a job and a family to maintain so i can only spend so much time answering questions. Also I was away from the web for about 8 months due to family issues so I missed a whole lot there.

    Pita, I ordered the Painterly Days Watercoloring Book for Adults and the Kuretake Gansai Tambi Watercolor Set - 24 Colors, Kuretake Gansai Tambi Set of 6 - Starry Colors. I am a beginner in watercolors but have been using my beloved Inktense pencils for a long time. Could you tell me if you have used these paints and any comments on them. They are arriving this week and I can't wait to get started.

    How long does it usually take you to finish 1 book?

    • @PetaHewitt
      @PetaHewitt  8 років тому

      If I were to concentrate solely on one book then probably about a year for one the size of 'Enchanted Forest'. For one of the 'Creative Haven' line of books... maybe 3 to 4 months.

      Tracy Boswell Yes you definitely could. Sometimes I like to go over water color pencil with a refillable brush pen filled with water.
