    I found you first several years ago and recognized right away what a talented artist you are, something I will never be. Then after retiring took up an interest again, after finding your videos, a couple months ago I found Kristi's videos. Today I found this video, and try to imagine how thrilled I was to find my 2 favorite artists in the same video! Then I'm wondering why it didn't show up in my you tube que sooner. Was shocked to find out it was made 6 years ago, but so great full to find it!

    I remembered an earlier video on coloring books. I’m still learning to use watercolors, and I’m making progress, but sometimes just coming up with ideas is a challenge. I think this is a wonderful idea! Of course, I want to draw my own artwork, but this is such a great way to practice.

    I just found your chanel. Ive also been looking for a book that can take watercolor. I was given a Joanna Basford book 5 years ago and have been hooked since. Ive been using colored pencils (which i never used before) and live them, but ive always been a painter. Thankyou so much for tour chanel. You are i formative AND interesting😊

    I bet Kristy Rice is delighted with the video you made. It is a delightful celebration of her skilled and charming book, the hard work in making what is obviously a top quality product, and your charming painting. Thank you

    Wonderful thank you. I've been saying for some time that the one thing most likely to kill the re-discovery of colouring books would be the paper. Big kudos to both Kristy and the publishers who got on board with this. It's on my 'must have' list. A great book to practice some of the lessons you have shared with us.

    Nice and informative interview Steve, plus it's a nice series of books that Kristy produced. We all love watercolor and I'm glad there is finally a great book for us!!! I like the idea of just painting without having to think about the subject, just pick up some colors and see what happens. A great tool. Thank you!

    Thank you, Steve, for doing this review. I have had my eye on this book series for a few years and think I will pick it up after seeing how highly you rated the images and the paper quality.

    Apart from not actually doing the initial drawing there appears to be plenty of lee-way for creative personal painting as well as building on water colour skills and techniques.... Thanks for the interview.

    This was a wonderful way to introduce Kristy to your followers. I certainly will check her coloring books out as it is hard to find one with good water color paper. I love to do this between other water color projects, kind of empty my mind and it is so relaxing... You are still one of my favorite water color artists and hope to see more of your work soon! Thanks a bunch

    Really enjoyed this video, Steve. I love how open you are to exploring things outside the "fine arts" area and sharing them with us. Your suggestion to use it as a way to practice techniques is a good one. Kristie's drawings are wonderfully whimsical and look like they would be fun to paint. Definitely going to check out her books and her sites. And thanks for not being an art snob!

    • @mindofwatercolor
      @mindofwatercolor  8 років тому +4

      Thanks for saying that Kristine. I'll get some flack from some of those snobs too even though this only the 2nd video I've ever done on coloring books. And you're right Kristy's drawings are wonderful. They have a loose sketchy feel which makes me want to paint them that way.

    I recently purchased this book so I am thrilled to see you featuring it. As a matter of fact, it is this book that spurred on my interest in learning more about watercolor and it led me to seek out your channel. I am not yet really happy with what I have been able to do with the book but I'll just keep watching your tutorials till I get it right. Thanks so much!

    Hey Steve, I have a few questions for ya if you don't mind...the video is a little blurry to me so I'm not able to see any small detail. Can you tell me what you start the picture off using? I can't tell if it's a marker, a brush, a dip pen, ect, but it appears to have a brown handle/barrell. I'm curious to know what utensil it is though. Also, it appears that you have a pan pallet set to the right...can you also tell me what brand you're using? Even if it's just a self made pallet, I'd like to know which paint you're using. Lastly, which book from the Painterly set are you using in the video to paint the mushroom picture? I absolutely love mushrooms! Thanks a whole bunch Steve! Love your videos

      As I mentioned in the video it does act a bit differently than many WC papers and takes some getting used to. For coloring books its about the best I've painted on. However, it still falls way short of high-grade artist paper like Arches.

    Great review :-) I purchased two of this books just a few weeks a go, the Pattern one for a friend of mine, and the Woodland for my self. I'm new to, and are struggling a lot with watercolours and thought it could be great for exercise . IT IS :-) A great fun, and yes the paper works fine. By the way, I living in Italy and got it from Amazone.

    Steve did you have a problem with barely trying to lift in this book and the paper coming up with it? I also tried some water and it spread out of the lines? The back of the paper buckled with little water? I just wondered if I got a bad one? I am asking you because you appear to be a believer, which makes me trust you more. Thanks

    • @mindofwatercolor
      @mindofwatercolor  8 років тому +2

      As you describe the problems, no, I didn't experience that, but sometimes it can be something simple that you may not be aware of. Its 90# paper so it will buckle a little. Mine flattened out pretty nicely after it dried but left a slight uneven surface. I would say thats normal. Sounds like the very common problem of using too much water. I know Kristy made it sound like that doesn't matter. Use as much water as you want, but in reality thats not true even with the very best paper available.

    Hi Steve. I don't understand how I missed this video before. Anyway I've seen it now and I'll be sure to get this book as well.
    Actually, I logged in to mention the book I purchased today - Birdtopia by Daisy Fletcher -. This looks exciting and appears to depict real birds. For coloring of course. Paper seems as OK for watercolors as Johanna Basfords books, but I haven't tried it yet.

    My son and I are just starting to play with watercolors after he showed an interest in arts last year, I saw these books and they look so fun but do you think if a young artist gets used to water painting in the lines that it will be hard to paint without using one of these books?

    Thank you for posting this review! After watching it I ordered Flowers book right away. Painting the sketches allows me to spend more time thinking about the shading and shadows of each flower instead of thinking about the whole picture. Being new to watercolor, this book helps me understand the subtleties, or more appropriately, the mind of watercolor!
