    I hope you have more videos with Matt. It's cool how much time he's spent actually living out in his primitive hut.

    I really enjoy dual survival when Matt graham was on there. after he left it wasn't the same. he really seem like a good person and really in tune with mother nature. we could all learn a lot from him and really be at peace with our surroundings. really enjoy the video awesome.

      TJack,
      Never liked Cody he was arrogant trouble maker and the reason all the others were always let go. I liked about everyone else they had on the show with him. Maybe he drank to much of his own pee ?

    That is one person I would love to spend a weekend with. I know a lot of people dream to live his lifestyle. Loved the shelters. I was just looking at the seekoutside silvertip this week. I have a snowshoe trip planned and would love to have it but it's just outside my budget at the moment

      Ben Geiser,
      Need to get your education . Matt did. Not one hated school more than I did and they didn't have the choices of classes like they do now. Only got a H.S. diploma but then could get different trade schooling and training.
      My sons who make the big bucks have college degrees but raised in the country hunting fishing and still do some.
      Where I have to live in the country near wooded hill and streams, thats just me.

    Can not really go wrong with a traditional shelter. Couldnt care less about the tv bs but I dont actually mind Matt as far as this type of people go.

      He's truly good people IMHO. TV has its place. Sometimes they get it right, sometimes they get it wrong. All we can do is either watch it or make our own huh. I'll do a little bit of both.

    Hi TJack survival another great video. Always been a fan of matt graham and his outlook on life and connection with nature. Another great video. 👍 was wondering were you guys got your gillets from and what brand that fire box that matt has for an open fire in his tipitent?

    • @TJackSurvival
      @TJackSurvival  6 років тому +1

      I'm not going to lie I had to google what is a gillet..? Our vests are Filson vests. I think they are out of Seatle Washington or somewhere around there. I have the Mackinaw Wool vest from Filson. I think his vest/gillet is the same model as mine but I'm not sure as I didn't ask him. I laughed when I showed up to do the video and said nice vest, Matt! But it was cold and that's a great clothing choice given the environment. We didn't plan that. That fire box is sold by the same tipi company that manufactured the tip, in in the video. The company is Mansfield outdoors listed in the comments section under the video. Here's the link to make it easier though. www.mansfieldoutdoors.com/ Check out the tv show Bushcraft Buildoff that's coming out on November 8th for more from Mat and I and many other amazing crafters. Respectfully me.

    I was loving that native flute in the intro & outro of this video. Great sound. I have 3 native flutes myself although I dont play, they are sentimental to me since they were native created. The tee pee system is so very cool. I am originally from Montana where 7 Indian reservations are located. I have see many tee pees in my life and each one has its own personality when it comes to decor and painted canvas and hides. The natives really thought this design out well and used it for generations. I really enjoyed this informative tee Pee video. Thanks for sharing. I just subscribed to your channel. Please feel free to subscribe to my channel. I would appreciate the support in return. Thanks again for sharing.

    What type of land was this built on? Not looking for it or anything but like is it blm, fs, or is it on one of his friends property?

    • @TJackSurvival
      @TJackSurvival  6 років тому

      It's on private property. You really can't build stuff like this on federal land as that belongs to the public.

    • @TJackSurvival
      @TJackSurvival  6 років тому

      I think you can make a temporary brush shelter then remove it on public land but don't quote me on that one.

    Thanks for great video! Was wondering about Matt's pit house with the open roof: what is the deal with rain coming in? (and insects and small animals?) Did Matt have a covering for the roof when he was living there?

    • @TJackSurvival
      @TJackSurvival  7 років тому +1

      No, basically heat moves bugs and cold out. It's like sitting in a lean shelter with 4 walls instead of one. Ancient people that used these rarely covered the top as well. It's better to have a fire and an open top than a closed top and no air movement. Kinda like a tipi. You need the hole if you are going to have fire. He did however have a blanket on the door that was behind the camera. If you see the drone shots you get a good shot at it from the outside. One last thing is this. Rarely does rain or snow go straight down so little to no precipitation gets in a small hole on the top like that, and almost no precipitation gets into a hole with heat and smoke coming out of it.

  • @6brettes
    @6brettes 6 років тому

    very nice? now what about planning permission for a pit shelter? who in the natl park service or blm do you apply to for the ground plot? what about plumbing and elecs and local supermkts how near are they? to this burgeoning bushcrafter new housing estate?

    • @TJackSurvival
      @TJackSurvival  6 років тому +1

      This needs to be done on private land in the US. The Forest Service would cite in a heartbeat for this if it were on public land.

    • @6brettes
      @6brettes 6 років тому +1

      TJack Survival so by private arrangement or by ownership of the land its getn harder n harder to find land that is free for this type of experimental living type of thing!?
      ive got a few spots i go by stealth but if caught yer still in trouble
      i dont like to do it but very few or little options as the land ownership prohibtive rules are now everywhere there arent very many places where you could do this freely without interference or objection it was great when i worked for a private landowner who owned most east sides of our local natl park he gave us rights to kick others off if abusing the area we had his permission to do almost everything incl build assault cses shelters in forests and fishing kayaking rights to use the river it was great to have a landowner boss that understood mindset and allowed others to best utilise his own private lands extensive as staff obviously trusted but a rare occasion to ever find a private landowner who agrees with you putting up a semi perm pit shelter it was great! which is such a very very clever & warm ventilated & comfortable design!! never seen one with 4 main posts before open ceiling its a great design the earth makes it warm winter cool in summer
      ive lived only in bronze age and viking replica early shelters they use a turf sod roof same poles and the walls are pure solid granite and slightly lowered floors raised sleeping shelf usually covered in furs and a semi circ spiral tunnel entrances to baffle & avoid windy conds!! they were both very very surprisingly comfortable the scottish crofts are also last vestiges of the celts & vikings style of building it has fire pit either ends low windages co efficiency in high winds! sod roof again
      nice to see flowers growing on roof!!

    So matt graham built a long term shelter on federal land in a national forest, then lived there for free?

    • @TJackSurvival

      No, this was built with permission on private land. He also owns some of his own land that he uses. To my knowledge, he has never built anything illegally on public land.

    Yep. Sub material right here. A DRONE? Some great shots too. Music's a little too loud and over powering the commentary if I was gonna nitpick but only took 20 seconds to see this channel is worth anyones time.

Thank for your suggestion though. Go look into some of my historical videos and tell me what you think. I've been watching your stuff as I do tasks, It's entertaining!

    "...this is not about politics..." First of all, Matt has spent a lot of his life surrounded (and accepted) by a deeply republican population in that part of the country. For the first time, I suddenly wonder where he stands politically. One would think he's liberal (hippy-dippy in the best way), but maybe not. If not, I don't want to know - I want to keep my pristine view of Matt as having the perfect humanistic perspective of life as reflected in how he hunts, survives, treats people and his environment.
    Be progressive, Matt! If you are woohoo! If not, I don't want to know!

Not a Tax & Spend Progressive ( another word for Communist ) which they new wouldn't fly in America so the switched to the word Progressive !! Check it out American Communist party
      Old enough to have watched it all play out :-(

    People originally built round houses or domes house for many reasons. 1- it required less resources, less time, less materials and less waste in round houses. 2- the heat and cold is distributed equally around a round house. With that, it required less wood and resources to heat the house or cool the house which also meant you had to use less calories collecting woods and so on. 3- a round shaped house is and still today more sustainable than squared or rectangular houses meaning that you required less time repairing it. 4- round houses are stronger and more resistant to wind, hurricanes and tornadoes than other shaped houses. 5- back to point 1, it took less time putting down and up a round house and materials could have been easily replaced or carried like in Siberia and so on.
