Teachers protests for education in Sindh

Teachers from Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) and the University of Sindh (SU) united in a powerful protest in front of the Central Library, Sindh University, Jamshoro, to defend the dignity of universities in Sindh province. Under the leadership of the All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) Sindh chapter, educators strongly opposed the government’s proposed bill allowing the appointment of non-PhD Vice Chancellors in universities. Holding banners and chanting slogans, the protesting teachers emphasized that universities must be led by highly qualified academics to maintain their credibility and academic excellence.
Dr. Abdul Rehman Nangraj, Secretary FAPUASA Sindh Chapter and Secretary Sindh University Teachers Association (SUTA), along with Dr. Muhammad Qasim Nizamani, President SUTA, and Dr. Nasurallah Pirzado, President Mehran University Teachers Association (MUTA), issued a firm warning to the Sindh government to immediately withdraw the controversial bill. They stressed that appointing non-PhD Vice Chancellors would degrade the higher education system and set a dangerous precedent for future academic leadership. The teachers also raised concerns over the tax rebate issue and the contract-based appointment of teachers, demanding that the government address these matters urgently. The protest leaders vowed to continue their movement and warned of intensified demonstrations if their demands were not met. They urged the Sindh government to protect the autonomy of universities and prioritize merit-based leadership appointments.
