Master Oogway I was athletic until I got older. Have issues with chronic pain because of arthritis and Fibromyalgia. Just can’t move around as good as I used to.
I also recommend ‚Aly Art‘s series on body type for people who are seriously interested in the topic. She uses a different system and goes into great detail about it. I had to watch them several times, actually, but they were of great help to me figuring out what suits me and why. I could never quite find myself in this system and now I’m a happy (flamboyant) natural according to her system 🙂
I don't get that system. :DDD to many options. Or rather than I don't get it - i can't categorize myself inside the system. After Justines' system I'm a rectangle but I earn fat first in belly, so an apple-rectrangle :DDD
She uses kibbe metamorphosis, or her interpretation of it, it's way better than just taking into account your 3 measurements, you can find out more by joining "strictly kibbe" Facebook group, where kibbe himself posts sometimes and there's a list of exercises you can do to find what style fits you best.
it’s also nice to remember that what your body looks like with your preferred undergarments on is different than what just your body looks like - if you’re naturally a pear but you wear a push up bra most days you can probably style yourself as an hourglass
Very clear and interesting presentation, but in France there is a two categories for the hour glass type, the X type for the lean hour glass and the 8 type for bigger shaped hour glass silhouette. It makes a big difference , if you are X you can wear everything you like..
Love this video! It took me until my twenties to acknowledge that I am a fairly distinct hourglass shape. I used to hide my curves (34 rib cage w.40 bust, 26 inch waist and 39 hip) with wide legged, lower rise trousers, and men’s t-shirts. I also wore a lot of oversized button downs (again men’s) over capris or leggings. Now I LOVE looking at Salma Hayek, and Marilyn Monroe for inspiration, as well as Christina Hendricks. I tend to gain weight all over and proportionately - so even heavier, I still have a very small waist compared to my bust, and hips- though I certainly notice the weight because my face, upper arms, and thighs look fuller, and my collar bones are less prominent.
Justine, I cannot tell you how much I enjoy and appreciate your videos! Your videos are so perfectly compact with information and you are able to articulate the topics so intelligently! Thank you for your incredible dedication, I learn so much from you!
Not sure if you covered this already but it would be nice to have a guide of which brands do garments for each body type. Being a bit of a hourglass I struggle with anything that is shirts, cardigans and tops which are often made for more linear body types and look much heavier than I actually am. I work around it buying stretchy materials but would be nice to have some ideas of brands that really fit 😏
I would love to see a video on people who are combo body types, like for example I'm like a pear-glass. My measurements are so close, it varies week to week. Tips and suggestions for women who are these crossover types, or right between two
Any recommendations on pear but petite? Justine I am grateful for these videos of yours. They have helped me figure out why on some ocassion a particular look worked well and why on some other ocassion a particular look didn't work for me. Thanks again.
Samriddhi Raj Some pear and petite celebrities are America Ferrera, Kelly Clarkson, and Kim Kardashian. Pinterest has a lot of great info on petite and pear shaped bodies. Just search “clothes for petite pear body.”
This video was ery useful, I've saved it as a reference for my next online shopping spree ;). I believe I would be a rectangle but what has always been challenging for me styling wise is that I don't have large hips or a defined waist but very large bust so I've sometimes gone for clothes that would fit an hourglass figure more but I've still been a bit unhappy with my waist in those clothes, there's always one element that is a bit off but this will be a great help in the future. I've wanted to figure out which celebrities or online fashion people who have a similar shape to mine because I believe like you said that it can be nice to look at how they've been styled to see what works for me.
Thanks. Inverted triangle here. I really struggle to find tops that fit comfortably around the shoulders a d bust whilst also not losing my torso shape due to sizing. Tops tend to look baggy or too big just because I need a particular size for the shoulder/chest area.
Hi Justine! What do you think about the Kibbe body type system that does not look only at the torso measurements/shape but also the overall figure, proportions and angles or curves?
Hi Justine! Wonderful idea to give an example of body shapes by showing celebrities! Thank you so much! Please just give us little more examples of celebrities with a bit more ... Style. Maybe more European celebrities? Or maybe in a future videos of Emmy award or Oscar dresses, or any other events, mention the body type of the celebrity. Thank you!
Great video Justine. I’m a pear 🍐 which has bugged me always since it is so difficult to find good fitting skirts and trousers because of my small waist versus big hips. Can you do a video with examples of what we could wear for our body type? Thanks so much 😊💕
If you're in the UK, or any country that has the brand 'Coast' available (they have it inside a Debenhams usually in the Middle East), check them out! They make gorgeous skirts and pants for people with small waists and generous hips. ^_^

Justine, thank you so much for your videos! I have discovered I am a rectangle shape and with your help went looking at clothing with Rosario Dawson in mind... (I'm 56 and rather petite!) I was SO surprised to find that many of the styles in my closet fit well with the designs she is wearing!! I also discovered that many of the clothes I tend not to wear, that get pushed to the back of the closet are clothes that do NOT fit my body type! Thank you for helping me see the truth... and clean out some space in my closet.
I'd say I'm a pear, not because of wide hips but rather big thighs and quite narrow shoulders. I'm short for a scandi (165 cm) but not technically petite. I find your advice helpful but am still looking for the twin 😉 thank you for all the inspiration
Hi Justine, Loved this video, keep up the amazing content. ❤️ I was wondering what are the cut off points or measurements that distinguish a hourglass from a rectangle body shape. I would say I have a seemingly rectangle body shape for the most part but I am not completely lacking in the waist department either, I have only a very slight waist. It’s only ever so slightly defined. Would that make me an hourglass or a rectangle?
I have an inverted triangle 😭. Like you guys are so lucky. Rectangle looks proportional. Hourglass looks really pretty. Pair looks like it’s good because it seems right going from small to big. Apple is pretty good because it doesn’t go from big to suddenly skinny, unlike the inverted triangle like mine.
Claudia Templaria No, the oldest two, Isabella & Connor are both adopted. The youngest two are biologically their children, Nicole gave birth to Sunday Rose naturally, and with Faith Margaret they used a surrogate due to Nicole’s past miscarriages & age. Sunday Rose looks like Nicole & Faith like Keith!
Great video! It definitely confirmed that I am a thin/less curvy hourglass or slightly curvy rectangle. My hips and shoulders are 35", bust 30", and waist 23" - I look proportionally most like a bony, angular Dita von Teese. I think it is important to take shoulders into consideration and not just your bust. Due to my shoulders my hips look proportional to my upper body, unlike the pear-shaped women shown.
you have almost exact same measurements as me, with my hips going back to 34-35 just like my shoulders, I'm still confused though what category I would put myself in between the two because I'm super skinny but my torso/waist is still considerably smaller than my shoulders and hips and bust is a bit lacking too
I don't, they tend to be faddish and often garish. I know myself and what looks good, I look to good advice like yours, and to my common sense and to my mirror.
Thanks you for your video. It doesn't help much because most of these ladies have most of their garments tailored to size. We tend to go for what is already is already created and the stores don't often offer the same garment into different "body shapes". But great video.
thank you Justine! I am an hourglass, not extreme, because my waist is not extremely smaller than bust and hops, but definitely that shape and on the curvier side. I have difficulty in underlying my waist with belts etc, because I think I am short waisted, and since I am busty I feel that makes me look heavier...so I never tuck in shirts etc. Any advice on this: short waisted on the curvier side (bust and hips) hourglass? merci!
yes me too - I have the same question!! Seem to be hourglass but waist not extremely smaller. But certainly definition. Also short waisted... therefore I don't do belts. Although empire waist definition suits me more... how about you?
Samadhi Selena Marr Hi! :-) yes I think it does too, but sometimes I feel self-conscious because the empire waist emphasizes the (fuller) bust! :-) and also then you can"t tell that there is any definition underneath either...not sure how to nail the thing...I think I look best with monochramtic dark skimming straight pants and a longer skimming top that blurs the waist, with a V-neck/boat neck/shoulders or decollete enhanced. probably because it makes me look longer and leaner. I would love to wear dresses all the time but can't seem to find my thing for how I am today...being a curvy hourglass there is always that difficult balance between too much vavavoum when not wanted, and looking too heavy if not balanced well...does that make sense?
I have the kind of body you're describing! Short torso, big bust and hips, with a smaller waist. I love wearing wide waist belts (at least 2.5 inches wide and preferably in a stretchy material - I'm wearing one by Ralph Lauren in my current picture that was about 3" wide, but I also found some at Marks and Spencers). They make my torso look a little bit longer and tuck the waist in a bit. Slim belts scare me because they make my torso look about 2" long! Point being, try wider, stretchier belts, should do the trick ^_^
Also, don't be afraid of your full bust! I've seen waaay too many women being scared of their bust size. It's something that you were born with, and I assure you that dressing for your body type will not make you look bad at all!
That video was very helpful. I think I’ve finally figured out my body type with you pointing out examples. I’m definitely an inverted triangle and will now concentrate on flattering that shape. Thank you.
Evita Belle I am this shape, equal hips and shoulders and a defined narrow waist, if I drew a line of my shape from shoulder to thigh it has the hourglass shape... but I have a small (but proportioned) chest after having had children
Look up Audrey Hepburn, she was considered to have a perfect hourglass figure due to her measurements being 34-20-34, and she was very skinny and was only an A cup. So yes you can be small chested, it's about if the bust and hips are the same measurement, and if the waist is really defined
Rhonda Roots I’m curious how could that be surgically possible? 34 at chest and 20 at waist, that’s a HUGE difference. You can’t have flat chest for that much difference. I measure 34-26 and I’m c/d cup without much fat on the stomach. I can’t imagine 20 waistline AND a much smaller cup.
Hi, it is the first time I actually understood which body type I am. Thanks a lot for the information. This will help me to find the correct clothes for me.
Hi Justine, lovely video! However, I'm still confused.. I'm have a pear shape body type + I'm short ( 158 cm tall ) + I have a big ( not too big ) tummy ( always bloated ) + I have small breast - would you have any suggestion which celebrity to follow? Thank you :)
Next time it really would be awesome to show the pictures in full screen when discussing them. Besides the picture thing I really appreciate you making this video! I have looked for similar info on this topic before & haven’t had much for luck. I think there is a lack in knowledge in this area! Which again is another reason it’s to be well appreciated!!
Hi Justine. I'm really enjoying your channel and am so glad I found it. Can you please discuss torso-leg proportions along with body shapes and height? For example, I'm a rectangle but am also short (5'2) with a small torso and longer limbs. I basically have no waist line - maybe an inch between the end of my ribs and the beginning of my legs. I'd love to see a video discussing this as well as how other proportions work with other body shapes and the most flattering ways to dress them. Thanks for sharing all this information with us!
I'd say I am currently a hourglass, not a very marked one because I am naturally thin. However, I have scoliosis, so my spine is curved and my hips slightly bent, which makes my waist look wider depending on where the clothes stick to my body. It's kinda tricky to work around that!
Thank you Justin, for yet another informative video. My main struggle with body types is to know at what point I should consider my body shifting from one type to the other. For example I used to have the same width at the top and bottom and about 25cm difference that the waist. Soi guess that was a clear hour glass After pregnancy that difference became smaller, closer to 15-20 (is it already a rectangular shape?) . Also if The top is about 5cm bigger than the bottom, am I an inverted triangle? It would be good to have some guidance on how exactly identify the shape, not all of us are a clear cut 🙈
Justine Leconte officiel thank you very much. I guess it also has to do to what you are used to visually when you look at yourself. I definitely stopped seeing this big difference that was before and had to change my clothes because of the waist, so you feel like you became a different body type. 😂
I'm a definite pear, but with quite broad straight shoulders. Most pears are described as having narrow shoulders I think, so the often heard advice to pack on big shoulder pads or puffy sleeves is a no go for me.
Adele is The closest to my Body type but I have a big belly, like If I had 2 bellies and I get super frustrated because it is hard to have it hidden or make clothes look good on me... And yes, I know I should lose The weight... To whoever feels like giving me that advice... Thanks, Justine. I love your Channel!!!
That's my shape too, I find dresses really hard to find, the shape that suits me best seems to be shift dresses, anything that comes in at the waist makes me look larger around the middle, if I cut my belly off I'm pretty sure I'd be a rectangle 😂
It's only Me - If I CUT my belly I would be a pear... Slightly larger hips... Thanks for The tip on The dress! I feeling more comfortable wearing boxie shirts... With wide leg pants!
Veronica Vieira yes yes yes to the wide leg pants my staple go to especially if they are quite high waisted to give me some shape from the front!, side profile il carry on ignoring only tend to have to see that in those hideous show you all angle changing rooms !, worse things we could be though😊 enjoy what's left of the weekend
As usual this is a very smart and informative video. So good to understand that as one ages and body shape changes, it is good to reconsider your body type to dress well.
Thank you for the video. I loved this video and it isnt really a surprise because I love all your videos. The video was so helpful when shopping you have no idea. I am an hourglass figure. Love you and love your channel.
Dressing Your Truth has the best examples. Type 1, apple, type 2, pear, type 3, inverted triangle, type 4 rectangle. Your secondary tells a story as well.
Thank you for this video. Now there are at least 3 people with a similar body type that I can gain inspiration from their style. Instead of tackling possible styles for every body type, you gave life long advice to keep an eye on our changing figures.
I love what you're doing here. But having a short torso and long legs, it would be helpful to discuss vertical proportions as well. An idea for another video perhaps?
Hi Justine, thank you for the informative video. I do have one question though: I have always thought to be a pear since my waist is bigger than my bust and waist. My waist though is smaller than everything else. Does this make my an hourglass, even though I have a small bust? I always thought hourglasses have an important décolleté ☺️ Thanks! Vicky
Small bust and small waist, that's pear. Bigger top and bottom but small waist, that's hourglass. Pears are not apples- weight is carried lower in the body than the torso, usually thighs. (I'm an hourglass. My weight gains are distributed fairly evenly between my breasts and thighs. Never the waist, never the hips or butt. I have wide pelvic bones but a tiny ribcage and shoulders. Large bra size.) Hope this helps clarify a little bit?
sweatpantsprincess Thanks for your explanation. I just got confused when she said that by hourglasses the waist is the smallest part. Which is my case even though I am pear according to what you are saying.
This helped. Apparently I am a rectangle shape, which is really nice to know, since I really didn't know how to understand my measurements (95 cm - 75 cm - 92 cm), thanks!!

Thank you! I’ll look into that.
She uses kibbe metamorphosis, or her interpretation of it, it's way better than just taking into account your 3 measurements, you can find out more by joining "strictly kibbe" Facebook group, where kibbe himself posts sometimes and there's a list of exercises you can do to find what style fits you best.
mesho95f Thank you so much!
Andrea Schmitz you're welcome
it’s also nice to remember that what your body looks like with your preferred undergarments on is different than what just your body looks like - if you’re naturally a pear but you wear a push up bra most days you can probably style yourself as an hourglass
I'm an inverted triangle, I feel really appreciated💕 Thank you🤪
Gerard 😌
Thanks to your video I realized that I am a curvy rectangle with tendency to pear with age. So useful!
You look glowing! Love the slight tan on you
I would love to see a video on people who are combo body types, like for example I'm like a pear-glass.
What about petite but triangle shape. With the tendency to add waist on the belly and arms?
I think I have a Salma Hayek body since I'm short and a slightly narrow waist with larger bust and hips. Thank you for the video!! :)
Priya Chabungbam me as well.
Dineen Serpa High five!😀😀
Same here
I think I prefer this because I am not super keen on being compared to mis-shapen piece of fruit.
@@embassyofbellerose8344 I think you misunderstood
Thanks so much 😊💕
I have done a series with one video for each type 😉
Justine Leconte officiel excellent will look them up. Thanks for your reply 👍🏻😊
I have the same problem
If you're in the UK, or any country that has the brand 'Coast' available (they have it inside a Debenhams usually in the Middle East), check them out! They make gorgeous skirts and pants for people with small waists and generous hips. ^_^
ml.az. Thanks a lot for your suggestion. Will be visiting the 🇬🇧 later on this year and will sure check them out. 😊👍🏻
C’est très astucieux and very smart of you Justine!
Très heureuse de faire votre connaissance et de profiter de vos conseils!
Thank you. Funny thing, I didn't realize I was an apple, but it would seem as I age, my waist is the area is where I gain girth. Interesting & helpful
I'm a cross between a pear and an inverted triangle. Though I think the inverted triangle is a result of working out!
I was about to ask you for this video... And here it is. I couldn't love you more😘😘😘😍😍😍
You might also address short or long torso...it does affect style of clothes.
Ah ha! Got it! Very informative. I've been dressing as an hourglass and struggling, but now I can see that I am a pear! Thank you!
Definitely a pear.
I'm 159cm, I have a feeling I would be very uncomfortable in the northern peninsula! XD
Justine would you ever consider doing a video on Kibbe's bodytypes?!! I would absolutely love to hear your take on them
Hi Justine,
Loved this video, keep up the amazing content. ❤️
I was wondering what are the cut off points or measurements that distinguish a hourglass from a rectangle body shape.
Nicole Kidman has four children, but she gave birth to only one of these (2 adopted and surrogacy used for the youngest child)
H W. Thank you for saying this ....you are correct.
🙂 I find one kids is usually a easy recovery!
and...I believe Nicole is tall. Something like 5'9" or more.
All adopted.
I love the way all body types and shapes are here. thank you
What do you think about "David kibbe metamorphosis" and will you be doing videos about it in the future?
I have this shape too, and have always avoided tucking things in. Wide belts make me look like I have no middle!
That video was very helpful. I think I’ve finally figured out my body type with you pointing out examples. I’m definitely an inverted triangle and will now concentrate on flattering that shape. Thank you.
Are you still considered an hour glass when your shoulder and hips have the same measurement, have a tiny waste but a flat chest?
The shoulders are always wider, so look at the bust instead.
Evita Belle. No ....you have to have a larger bust and hips with a smaller waist.
I look like a pear when I gain weight, but an hourglass when I am in shape
todayillfight becauseImarmy same
me too
Actually Nicole Kidman has only had one child. The first two were adopted and her youngest daughter was born to a surrogate.
I see what you mean. I'd say 10cm difference for the waist would be a rectangle. You're probably still an hourglass.
Justine Leconte officiel thank you very much. I guess it also has to do to what you are used to visually when you look at yourself. I definitely stopped seeing this big difference that was before and had to change my clothes because of the waist, so you feel like you became a different body type. 😂
i am partly inverted tri and partly rectangular partly pear
Love you Justine ❤😇
I'm a definite pear, but with quite broad straight shoulders. Most pears are described as having narrow shoulders I think, so the often heard advice to pack on big shoulder pads or puffy sleeves is a no go for me.
I've always been slightly pear shaped but since I had a baby a year ago I'm an apple 🍏 🤗
Very helpful. Very informative. I learned a lot. Thank You. I'll definitely look up the Apple video , that I am
Veronica Vieira, no one should give you that advice. I feel quite sure that you have a lovely figure.
Wrap dresses and ruffles can visually hide a belly, I believe Justine has made a video about hiding a belly.
I also notice outfits on TV shows, that helped me a lot!
Awesome video, Justine!
I was a rectangle before having a baby, now in my early 30s I turned into a parallelepiped
Dressing Your Truth has the best examples. Type 1, apple, type 2, pear, type 3, inverted triangle, type 4 rectangle. Your secondary tells a story as well.
Wish there was something like this for men's style too lol. I have no idea what I am hahah
There is a chanel with a lot of information for men, I believe it's called real men real style
Check out alyart’s video “do men have body types?”
As a petite inverted triangle I have always struggled to find style icons with my body type. Good video!
Hourglass it is!!
I'm also a petite hourglass, Salma and Scarlett and of course Marilyn are my greatest inspirations for dresses.
So apparently I'm a bottom hourglass strange cuz I thought I always was a rectangle 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
Thank you for this video. Now there are at least 3 people with a similar body type that I can gain inspiration from their style. Instead of tackling possible styles for every body type, you gave life long advice to keep an eye on our changing figures.
The queen of pears is Beyoncé
Lmao 😂
I'm halfway between the hourglass and the rectangle. Which I guess is a good thing because I can dress like both!
very smart video chapeau! and congratulation for France winning the Mondial 😊Felicitation.😊
I love what you're doing here. But having a short torso and long legs, it would be helpful to discuss vertical proportions as well. An idea for another video perhaps?
I am Jennifer Garner 😊
You are glowing today Justine!! Totally on point
