    Just wanted to say I saw this video beginning of 2015. I bought those racks and 4 years later they are going strong. The particle board still looks great, recently moved them into a bigger room. I have bought the racks since and they are totally worth it! Easy and fast put together. Love them. Thank you. So glad so many of your old videos are popping up today. Lol.

    Update for anyone who is as frustrated as I've been trying to find a stand like this:
    The product seems to be discontinued. I've heard the new model is 1.5" smaller, so the 40g breeders won't fit. Having measured them in the store, it seems legit that they wouldn't fit. Sizes weren't even close to being big enough.
    The good news is, you might get lucky like I did. Armed with item number 319466 and the model number MR3618BWG, I called the local Lowes in Oklahoma. Around OKC they were able to track this stand, found 4 of them at 2 stores. Now they couldn't find the 1 at one of the stores, but the other store had all 3 of them hidden on the TOP racks, above the newer (crappier non-fitting) model. If you get lucky like this, you may also get surprised at the register, cause this $70-80 rack rang up $49.99 ($53 with tax). I was so stoked I may have bought all 3. (sorry anyone in OKC hunting for this thing)
    It seems to fit Tetra 40g Breeders just fine as seen in the video, I can also attest the Aqueon 40g Breeder fits just fine as I tested it out last night.
    Good luck guys, I'm stoked I found one, really sad that Edsal decided to downgrade the look and unintentional awesomeness of this stand with their new model. Perhaps if a bunch of us contact Edsal and complain they'll realize their potential gold mine.
    Also thank you to this channel for turning me on to this stand.
    Currently there's a $1/gallon sale at Petco from June 26th - August 6th, 2016

    Great idea for people who don’t want to build one! If it’s going in your house like mine and you’re handy and have the tools, I highly recommend building one out of 2x4’s (tons of how-to’s here on YT) it’s nice to be able to customize it with shelves and most importantly wrapping it with some wood to make it look nice. If you really want it to be nice you could look into veneer or get walnut plywood. You won’t regret it.

    Hey guys so Lowes and Home Depot have the newer version of this stand but it shows the holes on the rails which isnt as good looking. You can still find this exact stand on the web, but it can be difficult. I found mine on Walmart. It was listed as Edsal Storage Rack. They also had the newer version. Last I checked Walmart was sold out but maybe you will get lucky. It did cost me more than its original cost when Corey got it. Mine was 120. I know I overpayed.

    I have this edsal shelf. It kind of sucks if you think about it. Once unboxed you will realize that the particle board that come with it isnt thick enough. When i say that i mean that when the tank is on the stand it doesnt even touch the board, it will only touch the metal supports. I added 1" poly foam and that helped with spreading the weight over the whole trim. I also decided later to cut 3/4" plywood to replace the particle board. Once installed and the tank is full the horizontal supports flexes outwards on the bottom, even with the new plywood. It wouldnt take a lot to collapse this whole system. With that being said i have been using the shelf for at least 10 month. If you have kids do not get this shelf it is just asking for trouble.

    • @AquariumCoop
      @AquariumCoop  10 років тому +1

      PeabodysParadise I've been using the same stands for years. No bowing at all. If you got a different kit then that would explain it. Also I'm not sure how you'd fit 15 gallons on this without wasting lots of space, on end, you'd have sagging problems from the weight being supported on the ends but not the middle. Tanks are made to be supported on the ends.

    • @PeabodysParadise
      @PeabodysParadise 10 років тому

      Aquarium Co-Op now that you mention it mine was definitely different. I was using the 48x24 stand with mine. I put an extra piece of plywood over the cheap particle board and it helped, but I noticed bowing on the long rails on both sides when I had 4 tanks on. I dropped to 3 and it stopped bowing as much. Also the underside of the top level starting to rust pretty hard so I just eventually tossed it. I think it would've helped to have some bracing across the middle, eso for that wider 24" one. I've had much better results with their heavy wire racks.

I put a layer of Kilz Original on them and let them dry then water sealed them just as a precaution. My 40 breeders fit perfectly in them. I only stack them two high. The new set makes it to where you can have two separate shleving units with one purchase and four potential 40 gal tanks setup.

    That rack is now available from Amazon. I purchased 2 and it worked perfectly for an older 40 breeder and 30 breeder. But then with the 2nd one I purchased a new 40 breeder at the local Petco's dollar a gallon sale. I discovered that the new 40 breeders no longer fit at least the acqui on brand ones do not they are a 1/2 inch too long.

    If I replace particle board with a nice thick plywood could the stand be used for a 36" by 15" acrylic tank??

      +Raymond Hung I don't think screen lids would work very well in this setup. It's a tight fit for sure.

    Would a normal table or cabinet support a 40g breeder? Or is the weight just too much? I’m moving to a big apartment and will move away from nano tanks for the first time ever, I’ve wanted a 40g breeder for 10 years!!!

    Went to petco and fell in love with how far back and deep the 40 goes. I heard it's actually closer to a 50 gallon? I unfortunately have to wait for the next sale cause I'm low on funds.

    Hello, tried a 36 x 18 x 72 made by Husky. Bought from Home Depot, but does not fit. However, these racks use wire mesh instead of particle board or plywood..my question is, if I were to get a larger rack, like a 48 x 18 x 72..would the wire mesh be strong enough to hold the 40 gallon?

    Thanks for this, just got the stand and two breeders from the $1/g sale.
    I was wondering, was there a reason you went up 4 holes for the bottom tank? For my I was thinking the lower the better to get more clearance to work above the tank, but maybe I'm missing something. Thanks!

    Quick question, why do people call them 40 gallon breeder tanks, the footprint seems the same as a regular 40 gallon vs the 40 long which I thought was what was referred to as the breeder tanks, ie same footprint as a 55 gallon just shorter... thoughts?
    Awesome video by the way, nice find for the shelving!

    • @AquariumCoop
      @AquariumCoop  9 років тому +1

      Jason Doucette Breeder tanks are short and wide, the 40 breeder is 36x18. Where as a 40 long is 48x12.5. They also make 30 and 50 breeders which are just shorter or taller footprints of the 36x18.

    Right out of High School I worked at a warehouse in Grand Prairie Texas that supplied most of the local pet shops with fish. This was over 25yrs ago. Wish like hell I still had my monster tank(200 gallons) stand and lighting set up. Unfortuanately I have a very destructive ex who got mad at me and ruined the tank with bleach and dish soap. It was originally set up saltwater with seahorses , but eventually converted it over to freshwater with discus. in it. I currently have a 55 gallon set up with vatious guppies and it looks like a rainbow exploded in my tank ! I love it

    Did you ever have any issues with that much weight on such small pressure points? I have this same rack but with wire shelves instead. Was thinking I would need to put a piece of plywood or a 2x4 frame to disperse the pressure more evenly.

    I would get some 3/4 plywood build a cabinet in the bottom part which would help strengthen it...and put a middle brace across the top...and a canister filter system in the bottom.(yeah you could just build a cabinet without the frame)

    Hey Cory I have a 30 breeder with a wood stand. The stand does not fully support the back trim because it is mostly open. There is a middle vertical support that about 3-4 inches of the black trim sits on. Is this safe??? I'm kinda freaking out eventhough I got it from a local fish store that's been in business for years.

    Way too unstable unless you put up two tanks. If you just mounth the shelves and the tank on top it is too unsteady. Tried it. Changed to a regualr stand.

      This should be the top comment. A friend scored two of these shelves at a steep discount and I was able to get one off her and its really not a good plan if you just want one tank on top. I am giving the shelf back and buying something else.

      llunaln im really glad i saw this comment because im in the process of setting up my 40 breeder on the same brand stand but it only supports 500 pounds and i was worried its cutting it to close. now seeing this comment saying that 1000 pounds per shelf is still unstable with only the tank on top, i will have to look for another alternative

      Scott White if you all only wanted to put one tank on something... this stand was not the right choice in the first place. It's built for two tanks, don't put one on it. It's built for two. A table or full wooden stand would have been much better.

    • @rustyroosterrusty

      If only using one tank then I would put it on the bottom. It only makes sense to have the weight as low as possible. Ladders are stable but not as much when you stand on the top rung.
