No. 438 leading the race at the start is my uncle Sam Eglen, sadly killed in a road accident near Newmarket while working as a lorry driver in December 1982. Still loved and sorely missed every day…

I was just going to maje a post saying I wonder where these drivers are now. My sympathies for your loss.

Watchable because these cars on the track back then were also seen in scrapyards.

This is simply fantastic stuff!!!.....i wish Sky or someone similar would gather all this old archive and re-run it.
It would be excellent viewing, and would also let the modern drivers see that these banger races can be fun, and that you don't have to try and kill other drivers to win!!
    Brilliant entertainment.

Great to see footage from the old days. I see the name Ricky Royal mentioned and he used to be best friends with Dave Cook 440 for whom I was mechanic for 3 years back in the day. Often wondered what happened to Dave Cook and other people from the Heathlands pub where the car was stored and worked on.

i knew a guy who did this in the 1970's , he used to use a daimler v8 and also raced a pc cresta !

Stock saloons were restricted to 1800cc in the seventies. Daimler is 2500cc and pc cresta is 3300cc both were never stock saloons
