1:28 - Actually Dave, since I’m familiar with my Animals that isn’t a whale but a Whale Shark.
Yeap. The safest route. It is understable after Strange World and Wish flops, but this was in the cook way before we knew that.
Had to have been, surely??
This was quite the unexpected surprise and to think that Moana 2 was actually the Disney+ Moana series, until Disney decided to combine the episodes into a movie.
I’m being cautiously optimistic with the sequel, because aside from Ron Clements and John Musker not returning to direct the sequel (for understanding reasons as they left Disney) Lin-Manuel Miranda who was responsible for most of the music for _Moana_ isn’t returning to do the music, so I'll give the new songwriters a chance with this sequel. I just hope this doesn’t become another "Ralph Breaks the Internet”
I wonder too and I love the first moana!
They were meant to make a Moana short for Disney+ but I'm pretty sure it was changed to thid movie
@@PauTheDeoIt was actually originally intended to be a TV series.
Unlike those Disney direct-to-video sequels, this is happening in-house at WDAS and they are making sure it is theater-worthy.
Preliminary work was done at a subsidiary studio. Not a great sign.
@@DaveLeeDownUnder What makes it not a great sign? You don't trust the Vancouver studio can do it?
@@gamestation2690 Well... it could be uniquely hand-drawn in the same style as like Big Hero 6: The Series.
@@kootunesscrewy It will be CG.
@@gamestation2690 Still not as terrible as Dreamworks' Megaman 2.
(And I regret calling the animation good)
I knew it was only a matter of time. Honestly, I didn't think the original Moana doesn't need a sequel. But I could see this working if they do it right. And I really hope they do. I love the original, and I hope this can live up to it.
It does need a sequel
Tarzan & Jane, Atlantis: Milo’s Return, Belle’s Magical World. If Moana 2 is just all the episodes of the Moana series from Disney+ combined, it will be worse than Raya and the Last Dragon 🐉.
It won’t be episodes combined. They will have reworked it as a theatrical
@@DaveLeeDownUnder A😯.a😮…AHH🫨!!! REWORKED😫! I don’t trust Disney. 3 episodes were REWORKED😩 into Magical World and Milo’s return. REWORKED😫! Stitch the Movie is the best tv pilot movie because it wasn’t REWORKED😫!!!!
Difference is, all those old DTV movies that stitched together old TV shows also aired the episodes seperatley. The episodes were only stitched together for home video release.
This project will take the story and rework from scratch.
@@DaveLeeDownUnder It’s like what they did with Toy Story 2, right?
Finally!
I haven't watched Moana 1 since my uncle passed away and Moana was probably the last movie he watched before he died.
I'm very excited for Moana 2 to come out on November 27th this year!
I almost forgot , Deadline confirmed that Zootopia 2 will hit theaters on November 26th 2025 while ign confirmed that both of frozen 3 and toy story 5 will hit theaters sometime in 2026
I'm sad that Toy Story 5 won't come on the 30th Anniversary of the first Toy Story movie
Maybe Frozen 3 May COME Out On January 18th 2026 And Toy Story 5 Might Come Out In The Summer Of 2026 On July 7th 2026
What's next? Brave, coco and big hero 6 sequels 😂😂
@cupcakKe_express big hero 6 2 that doesn't sound right
@@cupcakKe_express there is the possibility of a Brave sequel also for a Big Hero 6 sequel should it have connections to MCU because of the multiverse?
Best birthday wish ever for me
So cool video dave lee!
Inside Out 2 and Moana 2 actually have beautiful animation, unlike something like, say, Megamind vs. The Doom Syndicate
Their qualify in terms of storytelling is another matter.
Megamind was clearly meant to be a TV (or rather streaming) series, and obviously they didn't want the follow through and crammed everything into a movie. It definitely deserved a follow up back in the time frame when it premiered, but it didn't do good at the international box office as it did domestically. Same deal with Monsters Vs Aliens, but at least that got a TV series and like 3 shorts.
Did not see that coming.
Moana is back, baby!
Hey There dave! Let me just Say, I did not Expect That. This is definitely a big Surprise for Disney fans.
Can't wait to see Moana Again!
WHICH Sequel/Installment Will Be The BEST ANIMATED FEATURE Of 2024 - DreamWorks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda 4, Illumination’s Despicable Me 4, Disney Animation Studio’s Moana 2, OR PIXAR’S Inside Out 2?!
I can't wait to see it
"Moana" is my favorite modern Disney movie. I can't wait for this film. :)
It’s been feeling like the late Eisner era here lately.
I was not expecting that!
It finally!!!
Disney Moana 2 is back !!❤❤
Dave, I was literally squealing with joy when this was announced. I cannot wait!
GIVE IT A CHANCE PEOPLE!
It seems that a lot of people have been underestimating Disney over the past several years.
@@gamestation2690 and at the same time, overestimating Dreamworks.
@@gamestation2690 *overestimating
I'll give it a chance, but that doesn't mean I can't express skepticism based on what we know in the meantime.
@@mikebode7560 A lot can happen in nine months. Remember Toy Story 2?
I’m still remembering that damn live action movie is in production.
It’s still in pre production because that film was impacted by last’s year strikes
Personally, between this and The Rock's live action vanity project version, I'm still a little disappointed they didn't do a Maui prequel or spinoff first. There's so much potential there that feels like it's going to be unrealized. I want to see how he lost his staff to Tomatoa, I want to see Polynesian mythology similar to Disney's take on Hercules. Even if Maui was a cartoon series prequel similar to the Herc cartoon series. Only real complaints I have is that I wish that A) Zootopia 2 was coming first and B) we'd get a third Wreck-it Ralph based on the original sequel concept if Fix-it Felix Jr. having to deal with his father's legacy and not measuring up to it.
I'm hopeful for this movie. I wonder what they'll do.
Hey Walt Disney Animation Studios and Bob Iger! We Disney fanatiacs are angry and outraged when you announced you are retooling the animated television shows headed for Disney Plus into animated full-length sequel feature film project scheduled for release to movie theaters on November 27, 2024 instead. We are threatening to cancel our Disney Plus subscription access if you don't stop adjusting the plans based on profits permanently and don't keep the promise you made in Disney Investor Day 2020 event video!
I don’t tell me, Disney has caught Pixar’s case of sequelitis.
Why is it okay for DreamWorks and Illumination to make sequels, but not Disney and Pixar?
Is on brand.
That Whale Shark is probably one of her ancestors or her father.
I'm cautiously optimistic about this sequel!
- This was the Disney+ series now combined into a movie. So the material done for the series is being recycled and saved somehow! :D
- This is still made by WDAS in-house. Pre and Post Production are done by the Burbank Studio. The animation by the newly-opened Vancouver studio and it honestly looks gorgeous to me
I’m excited
Reckon Moana 2 will do well at the box office after Wish didn’t do as well as Disney hoped? I’d be sad if the Disney Animated Canon came to an end.
Disney Animation will never come to an end. Moana should do well, considering how well the first movie is doing on streaming right now… then again, people might just wait for it to be on Disney+ lol
@@DaveLeeDownUnder Reckon Moana 2 will get good or bad reviews?
It is a shame Musker and Clements aren't back
the last time to my memory we got a TV series flipped to a move sequel, we got that awful Atlantis sequel. I'm praying this will be better. But I'm not optimistic. >
I’m gonna give this a chance. So freaking excited to watch this movie!!! 🎉🎉
Moana 2 and the live action remake: What??
Their sequel shows are usually much better than their sequel movies (Tangled The Series to Frozen II for example) at least from a storytelling perspective cause they allow more creative freedom. So all in all, I’m still cautiously hopeful for this one, even though I feel like its show equivalent would’ve been better.
Moana was one of the most streamed movies in 2023.. That is the reason. It is s super succesful movie 😮
I'm not surprised for Disney be making further sequel movies in the near future; whether good or bad. Giving that the announcement of Moana 2, it's gotta be an interesting despite low expectations.
I hope Disney don’t mess up Moana 2 it looks good!
Disney pls no more 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I did not see this coming that they're making of a Moana sequel and the animation despite for being in a few seconds is really good I like it and I'm definitely keen on checking it out whenever this would released in November.
Moana 2 and a Moana remake? What?
I do find it interesting that seemingly turned the Moana show into a feature film. This makes me wonder if Walt Disney Animation Studios Vancouver will become the next Magic of Disney Animation. Not in terms of being a walk-through attraction, but more so as an aid for the main studio's animated films by providing additional animation and maybe even make their own animated films. Also, it's a bit disappointing that it looks like Disney is going to have a case of sequelitis, but as an aspiring showrunner/filmmaker who sometimes worries that others might steal my ideas or make stuff real similar to mine, I don't mind this.
Mixed feelings for me. I didn't think Moana really needed a sequel and I would have preferred a series instead. Even the majority of the DTV sequels I liked, namely Aladdin and Lilo and Stitch, were bookends to a series that expanded the world naturally.
The recent sequels to Wreck It Ralph and Frozen by the main Disney Animation studio were also quite weak. They really need to step up their game after those two films and Wish.
A sequel that was originally supposed to be a TV series, without the original directors or songwriter? Sounds like the '90s/2000s DisneyToon direct-to-video sequels all over again. I hope I'm wrong and this actually turns out to be good, but those details aren't encouraging.
She's Finally Back For A Second Movie 🌊🥥🌴🧡🤍🤎🐚
Well at least it's more original than the unnecessary remake
Can't Wait for the sequel
Moana 2 is cool and all but I’m really amped for Zootopia 2 coming out next year!
I hope Moana gets a love interest it has been too long since a Disney princess had one.
Surely Hopefully Better than the Live Action Remake
It depends when the change was done. If it happen early enough it will be fine. But there’s a big difference between Disney plus and theater quality.
G’day Mate 🧉 🇦🇺 🐭
I'm gonna ask Warner Bros. Pictures Animation to announced and make the 3-D computer animated "Popeye" movie along with King Features Syndicate, and hired a new filmmaker to directed it and replaced Genndy Tartakovsky, instead of Sony Pictures Animation to produced it. To release along with "Coyote vs. Acme" in 2024.
In Theaters Christmas!
I don’t think it’s ever a good sign that you replace people who made the first film good in the first place
True but there are rare times when new people did movies good
YASSSSSSSSSS MOANA
Moana is one of my favorite WDAS films so I have high hopes for this one! (For better or worse, lol)
I’m looking forward to it very happy about that Moana 2 is real I love sequels so can’t wait 🥰🥰💕💕😍😍❤️❤️🤩🤩
It feels to me like they're greenlighting these sequels to try and make up for their lackluster box--office these past few years. Not saying they'll be bad, but it doesn't spell good faith in the studio, especially since they're realising them right after each other.
Don’t get your hopes up. Disney ain’t the best when it comes to follow ups, whether it’s from the main studio or Toon Disney.
I haven't even watched the first
Whoever told them to make a sequel instead of a live action tv series, should get an award for saving us from the nightmare. Hot take: If we're gonan return to that old era of sequels, so be it, if the end of the World's coming, then let this be the last thing to enjoy before's all over.
So, it was retooled.
I'm still wondering if Disney is going to make another original fairy tale animated movie or just another sequel?
We had 4 original animated Disney movies after Frozen 2 and we'll be having 4 sequels
Whale Shark
cooool
I wasn’t expecting this AT ALL, although I am still a bit confused with the Moana live action movie cause they just announced that last year, so are they still doing that or was that like a rumour or something to see how people reacted, I hope it’s not the case, although I do kinda worry if it’s the case with this coming out this year and IF there are making a live action Moana movie still, I feel like it is going to be over exposed a bit with Moana cause you don’t want to lean into too much EXPOSURE with Moana, it may be popular on streaming but you don’t want to over expose this.
Although with the news being announced I am very happy for it, the right direction for Disney to go with this.
The live-action wasn't a rumour - it was real, and it's still happening.
@DaveLeeDownUnder yeah I knew that was sort of the case, I was just a bit confused when they announced this still, plus a live action Moana movie I think it's still in development or in production something like that.
Let's hope this sequel isn't a project where the sequences feel like episodes cut down to a 90 minute running time
Reminds me of those sequels that were clearly intended to be episodes of a TV series that got canceled during production, and then was reconfigured into an anthology film.
I doubt very much that it will be
The giant fish is a *whale shark*
It’s a *fictional creature glowing with neon tribal tattoos.* No need to be so condescending about it.
What!!! why???
I hope it doesn't end up being like Frozen2.
Why do we need a sequel for everything 😞
Because studios want cash cows for sequels
Time is money.Realisators don't care about what we think. They just want money to fed their families.
Because her whole thing is voyaging and the first movie has been in the top movies streamed every year since Disney+ launched across all platforms. Creatively and financially it makes perfect sense.
I don’t think that’s a whale, it looks like a whale shark.
I'm gonna ask Bob Iger to announced a new hand-drawn animated movie for Disney in 2027.
Disney's return to hand-drawn animation in the 2020s!
How will you ask him?
I guess for hand-drawn thesedays from Disney you'd be limited to either "The Simpsons Movie 2" or "Bob's Burgers 2"

let's just hope none of our favorite characters get flanderized.
Wait...they are still making the live action one?
Fucking why?
Didn't Clemments and Musker left Disney?
They left many years ago. They were contracted for Moana, they could’ve been contracted again.
I’m not that excited. The fact that it’s seemingly just a re-edit of the cancelled tv series (just like Atlantis 2) makes it look lazy. And I simply can’t believe why we’re getting a sequel anyway, if we are getting a live-action remake of the first film less than a year later.
To be clear, it’s not a “re-edit”, it’s a re-working. They likely re-worked the screenplay as a feature instead of a series. It’s not just a bunch of tv episodes stitched together.
I hope this means that the live action remake is cancelled as well.
It’s still happening unfortunately
You can't stop The Rock's ego. I really wish more people would understand that he's the one who forced it on Disney as a vanity project than just outright blaming Disney for another remake.
When is Moana 2 (2024)?
I say it within a minute of the video.
I've already told you earlier...
"Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that the sequel will be coming to theaters on November 27"
@@DaveLeeDownUnder yes!

A sequel AND live action remake?!
Is this what the bottom of the barrel feels like?
Sequels are not inherently bad things, you know.
@@gamestation2690 I know. Just the fact we’re getting both around the same time feels a bit outlandish. They could be good or bad but it’s still silly overall
@@BR-jw7pm Yeah, that's true. I've never seen that being done before. Both a sequel and a remake of the first movie coming out within a year of each other.
3:95 It can't be any worse than Ralph Breaks the Internet or Elemental.
This year will be the destruction of animated films. We already saw the superhero genre start getting destroyed back in 2019, now this. Literally they're destroying Megamind for a quick buck.
You’re exaggerating
Megamind I understand but the superhero part is just you being dramatic
@@lexramstudios1386 The superhero genre started dying when Captain Marvel was made.
Weird how everyone was acting like DreamWorks were the saviors of animation after The Last Wish, and now suddenly everyone is trashing them for the Megamind sequel before it's even been released. People are so fickle. Really, I don't think any of the major US animation studios are consistently good or bad nowadays. I prefer to judge the individual movies on their own merits. Not sure this Moana sequel sounds too encouraging considering it was adapted from a planned series and does not involve the original directors or songwriter, but I'll give it a shot.
