    If you want to avoid filling the shop with smoke, take a blow drier and blow hot air up the chimney before lighting to reverse the down draft of cold air. I do this regularly and never get smoke problems.

    Upside down fire lighting is far superior.

    Great video. I'd love to see an elapsed timer at the bottom of screen, along with stove temp and even damper level to compare my fires!

    I start my Keystone using one match and the wood shavings that gather under the wood splitter in a big pile. None square inch of paper is used.

      when the stovetop reaches about 250 degrees, or the fire is around 500 degrees, it is in the manual for the stoves

    My neighbor has a Keystone model. It works a LOT BETTER than my Fireview stove. The Fireview looks great but has several major design flaws. There is no ash pan in the Fireview. This is ok of the stove is used occasionally but it's a major problem if you want to keep it burning continuously for more than 4-5 days. It gets full of ash in about 4 days or less. It's impossible to scoop the ash out while the stove is running, without making a mess. It's best t stop it for a day, let it cool and clean out the ash (about a bucket full).
    Burning less than absolutely perfect and bone dry wood is also a big problem with the Fireview. My neighbor's Keystone burns any wood and "asks" for more.

    Fan in wrong spot, should be near back edge of stove pulling cool air

    My wood stove takes 2 pieces of kindling to start, never an issue lighting it. After 1/2 hour my stove gets to 1500 degrees, not 500.

      That's an awful LOT of temperature. 1500 degrees how/where? Stove top/internal/ etc? A temp of 500 is a good normal temp. The other is not. If the stove is cast iron, sooner or later it will crack from ridiculous-unneeded heat. They just aren't made for that excessive temperatures, not even steel stoves.

      Hi Jenny, the fan isn't part of the stove, but an accessory that can be placed on a wood stove top if desired. This particular fan is powered by a thermoelectric generator (TEG) which converts the heat from the stove into electricity to power the fan, so no plugin electrical power is needed. Thanks for your comment and be well.

    can not afford that much kindling.

    • @chuckwosilis1247
      @chuckwosilis1247 4 роки тому +1

      No kidding lol Using that much kindling every time to start a fire might end up being a "cord of kindling" for a heating season. I used to buy Fatwood, but now i changed that since prices have gone up. Home Depot #2 Grade cedar shakes "underlayment" utility grade. $14 a bundle. Just one of them, maybe even only a HALF, is sufficient to get a fire going, depending on whether your wood is nice and dry or not. Maybe use 2 bundles per season. Quick-starting too.

      I usually just go out in the woods and grab an armload of dead sticks that are on the trees. One armload lasts me a few days.
