Montgomery sat Pasta for the entire 3rd period the other day, nobody should be off limits if they're not performing. I wouldn't be opposed to giving Nuge a little bit of a nudge to let him know the team needs him to dig in and get going.
THANK YOU for being honest about Nurse , its exhausting hearing people constantly try to excuse his poor play . There is no magic partner for Nurse , hes made every single partner worse . Nurse needs to be on the 3rd pair if anything to limit the damage he does
Perhaps as soon as this coming summer, the Oilers will buy out what remains of that boat anchor of a contract of his but whether they actually will is anyone’s guess. A buyout, regardless of season, will give a relevant cap hit underneath the US$9.25 million one that his existing contract carries, after this season, for five more. Starting three seasons from now his non-move claws will drop from fall to just 10 teams, opening up more teams, to which the Oilers can trade him without the need to ask his permission. This season, Nurse has the 8th-highest cap hit among defensemen, with only such cap hits of Seth Jones, Charles McAvoy, Adam Fox, Zachary Werenski, Rasmus Dahlin, Drew Doughty and Erik Karlsson. Across the NHL only 11 defenceman have this season dollars and only 10 otherwise with cap hits of at least US$8 million. Among defenceman under contract to Canadian NHL teams, this season’s cap hit for: - Nurse is the highest - Jake Sanderson (Sens) is second-highest at US$8.05 million - Tom Chabot (Sens) is third-highest at US$8 million - Quinn Hughes of the Canucks is fourth-highest at US$7.85 million - Morgan Rielly of the Leafs is fifth-highest at US$7.5 million - Filip Hronek of the Canucks is 6th-highest at US$7.25 million - each of Josh Morrissey (Jets), Mackenzie Weegar (Flames) and Matt Ekholm (Oilers) is seventh-highest at US$6.25 million - Neal Pionk (Jets) is 10th-highest at US$5.875 million - Dylan DeMelo (Jets) is 11th-highest at US$4.9 million - Artem Zub (Sens) is 12th-highest at US$4.6 million - Rasmus Andersson (Flames) is 13th-highest at US$4.55 million - Chris Tanev (Leafs) is 14th-highest at US$4.5 million - Nick Jensen (Sens) is 15th-highest at US$4.05 million - Jake McCabe (Leafs) is 16th-highest at US$4 million - Evan Bouchard (Oilers) is 17th-highest at US$3.9 million - each of David Savard (Habs) and Oliver Ekman-Larson is 18th-highest at US$3.5 million - Carson Soucy (Canucks, ex-Kraken) is 20th-highest at US$3.25 million - Tyler Myers (Canucks) is 21st-highest at US$3 million - Brett Kulak (Oilers) is 22nd-highest at US$2.75 million - Vinny Desharnais (Canucks, ex-Oilers) is the 23rd-highest at US$2 million - Jake Bean (Flames) is the 24th-highest at US$1.75 million - each of Colin Miller (Jets) and Derek Forbort (Canucks, ex-Bruins) is 25th-highest at US$1.5 million - Jani Hakanpaa (Leafs) is 26th-highest at US$1.47 million - Dylan Samberg (Jets) is 27th-highest at US$1.4 million - Simon Benoit (Leafs) is 28th-highest at US$1.35 million - Arber Xhehaj (Habs) is 29th-highest at US$1.3 million - each of: - Daniil Miromanov, Logan Stanley (Jets), Matt Benning (Leafs) and Tyson Barrie (Flames) is 30th-highest US$1.25 million - Justin Barron (Habs), Conor Timmins (Leafs), Travis Hamonic (Sens, ex-Canucks) and Kevin Bahl (Flames) is otherwise at least US$1 million - Lane Hutson (Habs), Ty Emberson (Oilers, ex-Sharks), Tyler Kleven (Sens), Erik Brannstrom (Canucks, ex-Sens), Jayden Struble (Habs), Kayden Guhle (Habs), Jacob Bernard-Docker (Sens), Ville Heinola (Jets), Joel Hanley (Flames), Troy Stecher (Oilers) and quite a few others is sub-US$1 million For cap hit rankings among d-men I got the info from Spotrac.
I think of, at the 18:15 mark of the video, the start of a mention of Nick Zararis, host of the Locked On Oilers’ podcast but before that, with Jess Belmosto, cohost of the Locked on Flames podcast. During last postseason, I watched a lot of episodes of the Locked On Oilers podcast that I had thought had been dead, given minimal activity for months. There’s no doubt that coverage of the Oilers matters and I like that very much whether it is good, not-so-good or in-between. The Oilers have this season been a very streaky team, and it remains TBD whether they will stay consistent for long enough to remain in the hunt for a playoff spot or fall so far out that pressure to sell at the trade deadline will only grow.
Nurse is just that guy at this point. He got his big contract and he's just coasting now making his millions upon millions. The gamble with lots of NHL players they plateau and once they get their big contract they just coast the rest of their career.
Too hard on Pickard. I just rewatched the goals. The first one was a giveaway in the O zone that lead into the Oilers being a disorganized mess. It looked like the Devils were on a PP. The second was a screened snapper, and then the third was just tough. I would say none of those goals are on the goalie. Pickard could have saved 2 of 3 and they still would have lost. Talking this much about how they need more saves when they put up an egg is a little funny. I know, I know, you say "I'm not saying that's why they lost..." but, like, you sorta are. with love, RIPapa
Nurse just can’t carry a pair but they constantly keep asking him to. Yeah, he’s paid twice as much as he should be, maybe more, but it doesn’t matter at this point. He’s paid what he’s paid and they have to make it work. Stop acquiring forwards and find a guy you can staple with nurse that can reliably slot into the top four. That’s what nurse needs. A guy who just lets him focus on himself and what he can do well. The Oilers have 2 true top 4 dmen. You can’t win a cup with that.
He's destroyed the numbers of every single partner he's had this year and last , there is no partner for Nurse . You bury him on the 3rd pair and limit his ice time in turn limiting the damage he does .
Can anyone explain how knoblauch didnt challenge nj's first goal? Most obvious goalie interference of all time. BOTH feed in the blue paint and he made physical contact with pickard. I wasnt even mad when it happened bc i was sure it gets challenged and there would be a -100000% chance that it doesnt get overturned
Wasn't Nurse hurt for the preseason? Did his injury just go away? I'm asking seriously because the media kind of stopped talking about it, but it would explain why he sucks even more this year, but we don't exactly have another option on that left side to eat up those minutes.
I think the D is missing broberg and ceci a lot. The nurse needs a solid, consistent paring. I feel like they need to make some serious moves next season. Some of the bottom 6 are almost at the end of their careers.
I’m not too worried but yeah there must be changes to the special teams. The current units aren’t working and it’s time something is done about Nurse and his poor play.
The example of playing simple was the last goal of red devil yesterday. You have Hyman browsing annd messing around and give the puck away and Jesper Bratt simply scored without over complicating the game.
Nurse and Nuge need to be scratched to send a message. Calgary did it to Huberdeau. Kostin is getting scratched on the regular in San Jose. Hell, even did it to Leon when he got benched after he elbowed someone!
@ lol alr, I think it would be bad because mackinnon scores good points on a good team, makar also does the same, while mcdavid scores amazing points on a team that needs him to survive, he only has draisaitl, who is probably the second best player if not the best player in the world. Him and mcdavid play amazing in the regular season, but when it truly matters, they still preform amazing.
What Franken-franchises we building? But that would be a big improvement to the team but bear in mind, Makar and McKin would cost more than McDavid, likely even after David's next salary spike.
We are playing the top pairing too much and EK is aging quickly. It’s contributing to their poor play. Agree about nuge. catastrophically bad special teams is killing our chances to win. We basically start games knowing we’ll be a goal down. Leads are so important right now to overcome the above! Overall, regression to the mean should happen. Worried. Nah. Perturbed hells ya! We are throwing away points!
WE can't keep calling Nurse's stats "luck" or "bad coincidences". He's proven what he is over the last year+. He got his bag and his brain stopped working. He makes SO MANY dumb plays and coughs the puck up in nothing situations. He's been playing like a 7th string dman all year.

Worst contract in the league

Lmao the happy gilmore reference
When do we consider firing the special teams coaches?
They need to spend some damn time in Finland in the off-season, force them to know Finnish!

Nurse has the stats of a mid to bottom defenseman. 36 SOG, 2 takeaways, 23 hits, 25 blks, and 12 giveaways

I totally forgot about his injury, it would explain a lot. Was it a hip issue he was dealing with? I can't remember

Would you trade mcdavid for mackinnon and makar? Are they both combined better than him?? Hopefully we get another w soon.
@@racasm Mack and Makar? Objectively that is a good trade for Edmonton, HOWEVER I refuse to commit to any McDavid trade talks moving forward lol

@@andrewdiles2152 yeah, hopefully he asks for a reasonable amount, or Edmonton is screwed.
