Thank you so much Brene and Nora. My mother did all the sadness and depression and my father did all the anger and abuse, while my brother and I were to be quite and behave at all times. Giving myself permission to notice and express my feelings is a lifelong practice.
She is incredible with words. I walk away from every conversation she has with so much more knowledge about my own shortcomings, my view point of others intentions, and just life in general. That part about a politician being vulnerable and sharing emotions are leverage vulnerability & exploiting emotions was simple astounding.
So true regarding Pity and attachment. There is the gem in understanding being closer to another person. I have just started to see this in myself. Thank you.
So sad to see the know it all negative comments… open your minds or just jog on to another video. YOU prove every word Brene talks about and will keep her in research for the rest of her life of which I am sure she is happy 🙏
Meaningful connection depends on the extent to which we depend on how others perceive us. When we develop capabilities to be more interdependent and less dependent on (conditioned by) others, the door to meaningful connections opens, and we do not need as much control over everything.
"Today self-consciousness no longer means anything but reflection on the ego as embarrassment, as realization of impotence: knowing that one is nothing." - Theodor W. Adorno
Waitressing is by far one of the most emotionally challenging jobs. Having been one for many years (25+) we are expected to greet our guests, interpret their moods, needs, demeanor. I often thought of a chameleon, changing my service talents for each different customer. Our very wages were at stake as up to 80% was tips. Truly, it takes not just physical strength but emotional as well. At the end of a shift the drain of this “performance” is palpable. Alcohol is a very common crutch. Like many service jobs, the toll on ourselves, our families is underrated.
Both of you look AMAZING first but least important, loved this interview, love what you’ve given me Brené and Nora, how you’ve delivered me news for years and trustworthy which is almost a unicorn in news sometimes. Thank you BOTH you beautiful women!!! ❤️❤️❤️ And, I pulled a muscle in my leg from racing my 12 yo nephew!! Beat him tho!! 🤣🤣🤣 Im 45.
😂🤣🤣 the emotion most not allowed in our house was anger. We weren't raised to be strong but to be loving and positive. (That does take strength though)
A word is a static limitation though... life is a flux... no word can do it justice, but yes, we still need a wider vocabulary, we cannot limit emotion
The latin root word of Religion is "religare", meaning "to bind with". So people saying they are spiritual because they want unity. Religion means the same thing.
Oh, darn. I thought this time I’d learn something, but you can’t change the weather. A master of repackaged clichés and adages, a walkin’ talkin’ Cliff Notes. O’Donnell is the expert here - generous with cues & guides that makes Brown seem to be well-rounded expert.
You should listen to her podcast. Particularly the last 2 episodes. She’s a social worker and researcher so her whole thing is learning about how people feel about others and themselves and how that impacts the world and our own well-being and one of her most challenging concepts, even for herself is the idea that everyone is doing the best they can. It’s a really great story and message she shares in those episodes and it’s such a hard concept to grapple with and truly accept, but so so powerful
shame/pride/guilt are in our human blood, which defines our identity. blood unites heart & mind. blood needs to be restored by sharing identity with God / Jesus. no change in mind could heal it, therefore no psychology and other mind manipulations can change you. Catholic sacrament Eucharist (the flesh and blood of Jesus) is the act of blood change.
I really want to like this person -- she is smart.. but she is so hyped up -- and spewing .. that I can't focus on the message. Like a old fashion medicine man.. "buy my tonic". I will buy her book - and then decide.
You don’t have to buy anything, just listen to her Ted talks and podcasts first. Unlocking Us is AMAZING and i have gained so many valuable life changing messages without spending a single cent.
If you didn’t learn anything from what she talked about or in her books then that says something more about where you’re at. If you had something intelligent to add or a critique then you wouldn’t call her work gibberish. You sound childish.
Well, I’ve been required to listen to some of her presentations of late. She’s a sharp lady, but, I feel like every time she opens her mouth, I have to fight through the “chick talk” in order to get a tiny tidbit of knowledge. Most confident guys will find her studies and observations as tedious and ask themselves…to what end?
It makes her approachable to the average person, which is sorta the goal. If she spoke super academically the average person wouldn’t care to listen. But by telling relatable stories, people can understand her point even if they’re not very emotionally introspective people who have a good grasp on these concepts going into it
@@ellabiddy4741 Maybe so. I would respectfully say her approach is still more gender-specific as well as too secular for me. "...relatable stories" are certainly not a bad thing. A famous Man once used such to make very important life-points. Nevertheless, I appreciate your input. Have a blessed day.😀
@Carol McNeill, the limit of your language is the limit of your world. Didn't you learn anything from watching this video? If not move on or else you'll just get pity from the rest of us.
@charlesthomas9960 she was part of a movement to silence opposition that turned out to be correctly justified. She is absolutely no good. Low key feminist who fails miserably to understand men interact and are held to different standards than women's feelings.

I love hearing Brene Brown. I choose courage instead of comfort.
Thank you so much Brene and Nora. My mother did all the sadness and depression and my father did all the anger and abuse, while my brother and I were to be quite and behave at all times. Giving myself permission to notice and express my feelings is a lifelong practice.
The more accurately you can name your feelings...
Language doesn't just limit... It changes... Language is powerful.
I love Ms Browns library behind her and HER SHIRT TOO!

I love Norah's laugh. I admire her work tremendously. She's my big sister in my head.
Great interview Nora - we need more of this!
So true regarding Pity and attachment. There is the gem in understanding being closer to another person. I have just started to see this in myself. Thank you.
Berne Brown has to be one of my favorite people on the planet.

Brene is absolutely brilliant. Love her so much!
Wonderful, knowledgeable, respectful Interview with one of the most helpful scientists of this time. I love it!!
That really does resonate, defaulting to anger. So useful to hear this analysed.
Loved "To compare is human" and the concepts of upward comparison and downward comparison.
Norah O’Donnell is a skilled interviewer!
Had great respect for her. Trained with her. We were told we were the class she’d trained. Then kept going without an acknowledgement.
I Love Brene' Brown's books 📚 💓
Thoughtful questions and nice atmosphere from the interviewer
thank you for sharing this!!
Brene is Amazing. I need to read her books more often. Shame still has a hold on me.
Because I allow it to.

What an amazing episode!
Her TED Talk is so powerful

Great conversation! It's connecting. I love she was a waitress and I used to be a waitress too and I know that term-"in the weeds". lol this is great.
Great interview... love Brene
Great interview!
Wow. Two great women. Great interview.

Emotions... We have to remember of "POSITIVITY" and POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY LEGACY

Yes great
Interview, I know, I don’t like Joey Martin, uncontrolled anger, sure motive for a third generation

Wow - pure gibberish- these two ladies can use words, no doubt; but they lack any measure of wisdom.

Please…let’s move on and focus on the good here. 🌈💚🙏💙✝️
