Hi Debbie Thomas from Lilydale Australia. did anyone else enjoy this video ? I drew along with it. I found it was fun and quite easy to keep up with. . I am still in week one because I was having a bit of trouble getting logged in but that is sorted now. I will be caught up very soon. Cheers to all. Happy drawing.
The lesson here feels like: "Here are some techniques you can use, but, if you can achieve a smooth gradient and clear form, it doesn't matter how you make your strokes" I do like to see the difference in how contour feels vs random lines. The way the shading can embody pure chaos or rigid form is lovely and I can already think of some great ways to use both in storytelling.
This is such a beautiful video it is both instructional and inspirational. The viewer is brought into the breath of each stroke. I am sure I will review again and again.
Thank you so much for the tutorial. I was having downtime and a hard time to keep going with the 100 head challenge because I wanted to try some different dawing method. I have learned a lot from your video. Thank you! Just a quick q thou, does the crossing hatching line have to go with same directions? Thank you.
It would help me greatly if you could give us a example of what you would use these strokes for? Like hair for example ... What type of stroke would you usually use. And i do understand that it all depends on the type of hair you would be drawing.. Thanks in advance :o)
Not always as the above comment says I'll just make it simple So basically it depends on 3 criteria • lighting • area of contrast • strong and soft lining So 1st meaning the area where the light is focused and that is where shading from dark to light / light to dark comes Contrast meaning lets suppose you're drawing a portrait of a face so light hits the nose , ( different from dark to light ) we have to take note of the creases and colors between the creases should always vary Eg. Some ppl have dimples when the smile just according to lighting we cannot define the dimple so we have to contrast there Then we have strong / soft lines so that means the lines we have for lips and wrinkles so in this case we dont want to assert the fact that they have wrinkles so there soft lining comes in to place however we want folk to take note of the lips bcuz it is te 3rd center point so we cant just merge we need to assert that is strong lining
Not certain about the points made but ,if anyone else trying to find out easy ways to draw portraits try Skyarza Portrait Coach Star (just google it ) ? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my co-worker got excellent success with it.
I use to draw alot back in middle school and in high school then I stopped. Now I'm 34 and started to draw again. Regret ever stopping. Thank you your video helped me
I was confused about these techniques a lot, and when I followed you, I went to my confusion. I follow you from Egypt. Thank you🥰🥰Because you helped me a lot
I have got a holiday homework in drawing to make fruits with the help of pencil shading, I hope after learning BAsic I will be able to do pencil shading perfectly 😉
Hai I am very much interested in pencil sketch I too drew many drawings but you r video is very much help to use this things in correct place to use but i want some tips like what type of pencil to used in pencil sketch and the pencil using in this video
Огромное спасибо за такой доступный пример карандашной штриховки для начинающего. Наконец-то у меня получилось! Благодаря Вам. Спасибо Извините за перевод, это через google. Thank you so much for such an accessible pencil shading example for a beginner. Finally I got it! Thanks to you. Thanks Sorry for the translation, this is via google.
Thank you. We're publishing our narrated and detail courses on another website. Kindly visit. Though now we're only doing watercolor courses but planned to do other courses also. Check out- www.skillshare.com/r/profile/Paint-Academy/4108073. May be it can help you to learn more..
I like that incremental cross hatching - I never tried it that way, have always worked reciprocal angles but the incremental looks way neater on contours
This is such an amazing video. I loved it but i jusy wanna ask that where will we use all of these strokes in our drawing??? I mean an example of while drawing what will we use these strokes???
Those are suppose to be techniques for drawing shadows, as you can see he mimics how shadows work in real life by adding 5 layers. artists use those techniques when they use pen mostly cause it's either black or white.
I really can't catch the differences between these 5 steps. These looks like overwriting but the 2nd to 5th steps strats from different positions randomly. also whats the pencil thickness? Can you please tell what are the main difference between these 5 steps for each style of shading
Not only is this helpful, it's so soothing and hypnotic.
Thank you
Yes
especially when listening to the Doobie Brothers and/or Steely Dan :D
But It Is Pretend Helpful
I Have Little Ink Pen
Never knew even random lines and mindless scribbling would look so beautiful with the right music.
My hair practice got better after watching the first 3 strokes. Thank you.
Glad it helped you

the background song is soothing and relaxing that it makes you focus on what the person is doing
In the Philippines if you do hatching(sneeze), they will say bless you

Use what ever you want
For hair
i think....these one..may be use for... eyebrows.....and lashes...like hatching ....
I would use circles and random lines for curly cloth
how do you decide when to use each of these techniques? what factors do you take into account when making that decision?
Hi, what pencil do you use?
I find this relaxing 💛
same here
Awesome - I realize I had too few steps in my technique - looks like more steps and lighter penmanship is the way...

What pencil are you using? Normal pencil has thick lines or did u sharpen it
Do you use dkfferent pencils for different steps?
This is an amazing video... Learned a lot from this. This technique is best to make ones lines perfect...
then i suppose any shape or design would be fine to use as long as it fades light to dark
It's the density/spacing of strokes that makes it work.

Hi, it's a pen. But you can do it with pencil. Start from a low grade pencil like HB or 2B and keep raising it slowly.
@@PaintAcademy oh thank you so much 😊

Can you please tell, which pencil you're using because i am not gettng the same darkness and finishing.
Hi, here I've used pen. If you use pencil for this shading then use 2B, 4B, 6B or higher pencil for value and darkness
@@PaintAcademy which one
Thank you so much as a beginner I think the stippling would be best for a Dandelion???
How can we make a danim print by using Hatching or cross hatching... Will u plz uplode a video for that ?

What pencil ur using pls say
This is microtip pen
This is such an amazing video. I loved it but i jusy wanna ask that where will we use all of these strokes in our drawing??? I mean an example of while drawing what will we use these strokes???
Great for nature drawing, fish scales, the fur on a bear, and feathers, etc.
Those are suppose to be techniques for drawing shadows, as you can see he mimics how shadows work in real life by adding 5 layers. artists use those techniques when they use pen mostly cause it's either black or white.
To create different textures and outline 3d forms in that texture... so random lines for wire wool as an example
I got Art class and we going over this vid but I’m procrastinating and doing this later
this is very helpful. thank you so much!
Nice beautiful strockes

Is it better to use harder grade pencils with each step?
Yes.
I really can't catch the differences between these 5 steps. These looks like overwriting but the 2nd to 5th steps strats from different positions randomly. also whats the pencil thickness? Can you please tell what are the main difference between these 5 steps for each style of shading
Nice pls post ur basic pencil drawing to learn
i was your 200th commenter lets goooo
Thank you so much.....
What pencil we should use to draw these lines?
You can use 2B, 4B, 6B, 8B graphite pencils for this. As when you need darker shade while shading you've to gradually move from 2B to 8B or 10B.
Thank you for the tutorial and the music, you’re teaching methods are superb.
its this 2b pencils?
It would've been really nice if you had at least mentioned the source of the melody being used in the background.
Isn't the random lines also called scribbling?
Anyone else in here take 4 art courses and manage a solid C- the entire time?
Yeah, that was me and now that's why I'm here, 11 years later lol
We have to use every time darker shade of pencil??
Not every time. It depends. You can draw more pressure and less pressure with same pencil.
What a nice scenery
Marvellous! Very useful basic skills made easy! Thank you sooooooo much!
Which pencil or pen use in your art?? Tell me name
which pen/pencils should be used to learn?
For learning you've to use pencil. From 2B to 4B, 6B preferable..
Nice going and soothing. Thanks.
U did great!
Thanks
Do some gown, dress sketching
Wird das alles mit einem Stift gemacht? Liebe Grüße aus Deutschland... :)
