🥔Bald eagles are "perch potatoes".😁 They spend much of their day conserving energy, observing their surroundings, or just people watching.
🌲Jackie&Shadow utilize their favorite Sentry Trees (some are snags) visible from Cam2: CS=Cactus Snag, SDS=Stick Depot Snag, LS=Lookout Snag, TP=Twin Pines, HOP=Hide Out Pine bit.ly/3F7Xh1l
🥚Jackie and Shadow have withdrawn from their unhatched eggs. On 4/11, one egg was broken and disappeared in the bowl. It is unclear if there was any development inside. On 4/13, Jackie consumed at least one remaining egg (no signs of development). The last (third) egg may or may not still remain in the nest (hidden in fluff).
We have no way of knowing why the egg did not hatch. It could be environmental, such as temperatures, humidity percentages, oxygen levels at high altitude, etc. It could be biological with something just being off at the time the eggs were created. It is very unlikely that either Jackie or Shadow are infertile since they have already had 2 sets of chicks together - in 2019 and 2022.

Jackie did the right thing when she started burying the eggs and then ate the other one. Shadow would have still been incubating them at this point. She helped him move on faster this year.
I do miss seeing them every day but it is good to see that they are doing well. Thanks for capturing a little bit of their day today, Cali, it was nice to see them doing what eagles do naturally.😊

When I saw the headline I quickly popped over to see Shadow. It sure brought back fond memories of Shadow and Jackie protecting their eggs covered in snow and going against the wind. I'm so glad I was here for the last month to see what Nature does. If you read it in a book you could never imagine the beauty of these two beautiful eagles loving each other in a nest that was very well maintained by them.

Enjoyed seeing S & J perched together in those beautiful pine trees. I thought I heard ravens making a ruckus. Then Shadow took off. Next, I see him at THE NEST. Guess he was making sure the ravens weren't SQUATTING! 🤨 (I hear that's happening in California's people world. 😟)

So wonderful to see Shadow "housekeeping!" I know we all miss seeing them on the daily, but I know of two individuals who I believe miss them more...my cats! I had this on my phone this morning and they ran in the room, perched on the arm of the sofa and stared up at the TV, a blank screen, mind you, in excited anticipation of seeing "their" beloved birds. Of course, I switched my viewing source, so we could all enjoy them together. ❤️🦅🦅❤️🐱🐱

I wonder what Shadow thinks and feels as he picks through the shell remnants. It's like he getting his own sense of closure much like when Jackie ate the eggs. Jackie is hard core. Shadow is a tender heart. They are so well matched for each other!❤❤🦅🦅 The view from that nest is so freakin' gorgeous it's unreal!!! Our eagles have great taste. 🙂
They are the reason I started watching eagles in Colorado. I even got binoculars. I am so happy I accidentally stumbled upon them earlier this year. I never thought I would watch eagles in my free time.

Jackie is taking a Well Deserved break! After all, she spent 62 days with no food incubating and protecting her clutch in dread of a winter blizzard. Shadow was there too, and he provided food once the storm let up enough for her to get up and eat a morsal! They are amazing birds. They are trying for another clutch. Who knows, she may lay an egg or more by this fall.
They aren’t trying for another clutch, mating season will begin in November. They mate year round to keep their bond strong, so we look forward to Nov-Mar which is when Jackie is fertile. Have a good day

Так что я верю в то, что Шэдоу тоскует по неродившимся детям. Он смутно помнит, как это было - когда в этом гнезде были птенцы и не понимает, почему их нет, ведь они с Джеки делали всё, что могли...
Simply put, their drive to have young is instinctive, almost obsessive. Birds are very hormonal, and their hormones initiate behaviors, almost OCD like. As those hormones that encourage these behaviors dissipate, their behavior will noticeably change. He has baby brain right now.

Interesting that he obscured that last whole egg (and shell remnants) while tidying the nest - it seems he really can’t abide the thought of attracting crows to the site.
Is it just me or, or does it look like Shadow is still protecting that egg from the ravens by burying it deeper
