Shadow and then Jackie visited the nest just after sunset. It seemed they may be bidding farewell to their eggs after a very long post-viability period. They ended the evening roosting together and in song. Both a heartbreaking and heartwarming process that we are grateful to have been able to observe.

Bless you Jackie and Shadow. You have no idea how many people sat on your eggs with you on those cold blizzard nights, how many people love you and now so many people mourn with you. I hope that you find peace and continue to love each other. Your love and dedication has shown us if birds can be loyal so can humans.

This brought tears to my eyes. An eagle funeral for their eggs, singing a song of mourning…. Going forward as a couple, loyal to each other for life, loving each other unconditionally. My heart hurts for them, yet I know they will go forward. Maybe next year, sweet birds. ❤

I didn’t hear a song playing…..
It seems that those in the know….believe these eggs not being viable have no effect on J and S! All instinct. I’m not sure where it says eagles do things instinctually void of the emotions we as humans experience. What I’ve witnessed over these weeks is text book emotion attached. From everything I have witnessed and being a grief counsellor I disagree. All the stages of grief, I have witnessed these 2 go through the different grief grieving process.
How do they cover up these babies eggs without it being so evident the grieving they are doing?!!!! The whole thing from the nurturing and incubating , their parental protection in full stride caring for the eggs and each other. To the coming to terms that the eggs didn’t become viable to watch the separate ways for each, to come to terms. I mean seeing each of them staring out the unhatched eggs they show a deeper connection to their eggs not hatching….just to me can see these past couple of days a connection as each stand, stare, moving both eggs and sticks around to what looks like last protective act of covering them to try to keep intruders away.
How do ‘they’ know that these parents aren’t feeling anything emotional?!
Seriously?! Do scholars speak ‘eaglette’? Have they philosophised emotions don’t exist, only instinct?
They are a wide open book on the differing stages of grief. What a pleasure it has been to watch J and S ….emotions raw and wide open.

@@pmitchell6819 you didn't listen to the end, they song in unison. Simply amazing. If you saw no emotion then you are just a cold human being. Simply stating it and truely WHO really knows? Nobody in human form has ever had the feelings of these eagles. We can only interpret what we see and IMHO I saw grief and grieving. I lost my son recently so I KNOW GRIEF
I am fascinated and touched by Jackie returning to the nest to cover the 2 remaining eggs with nest bowl materials. It's now 11 pm and I just checked the live stream and the eggs are sill covered and neither J or S is in the nest. I wish the best for this wonderful eagle couple as they continue their journey together. Thank you so much, SKH. It's been a part of our journey, too.

Eagles are not so intelligent that they use deliberate burying with a purpose, like crows and magpies bury food for later consumption. Eagles don't even have the instinct to bury something. Eggs are eaten by other animals, eagles don't even bother to throw the eggs away. When they took a break, they also didn't cover the eggs (although it can be assumed here that they let them cool down a bit) as blue tits do. Eagles can coverd eggs accidently when doing nest maintenance

They inspire us, human beings, to pick ourselves back up and try, try again. This is why, I as an American citizen see the American Bald Eagle as a symbol of perseverance for every single American now facing the struggle of picking themselves back up to try, try again. Just like Jackie and Shadow, we will never give up on a dream, in this we are family, wherever those dreams take us, we will preserver. Let the animal kingdom show us the way. Thank you for that!

This season did not produce eaglets, but watching the number of viewers climb well into the thousands, it clearly created a wider appreciation for this special couple and maybe for all bald eagles. That gives great hope for optimism for this remarkable species.

Could not have imagined a more beautiful ending. Thankful it was somewhat gentle and not some battle with the ravens. They will never know how many of us fell in love with them and were pulling for them.

I find this video stunning! My eyes welled with tears. Quite different from last year when they left the eggs for the ravens. This year Jackie was very intentional in "burying" the eggs. For what reason I would love to know. And then flying off singing one of the most beautiful songs and duets I've heard from them. Truly amazing! I wish I understood what they are feeling. Whatever it is, it resonates throughout the forest with power and emotion. Long live Jackie and Shadow!! ❤❤🦅🦅
yes that singing was their BEST. A duet of love and goodbyes and a promise to meet their babies in the after world. The eaglets are soaring high now, watching over mom and dad
I found this so comforting...Deut 32:11 "Like an eagle that stirs up its nest, that flutters over its young, spreading out its wings, catching them, bearing them on its pinions." Psalms 103:5 "Who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's."

❤ I'm new this year to the Shadow & Jackie cam and I think it was just amazing watching these two. It breaks my heart that their eggs didn't hatch. Am I reading this correctly that the same or similar thing happened last year & the eggs didn't hatch? But they have had broods. The love these two have for each other was just beautiful to watch!! I had no idea.
I will definitely be watching for the next Shadow & Jackie love story ❤

A wonderful goodbye and closure, for birds or humans. And a beautiful impromptu duet. Eagles aren't known for their singing, but that was top notch in style, pitch, timing, and mood, for anybirdie. I'm glad she covered them up, gone, Shadow can forget. Now they can roost together again, and do all the things they do together in their paradise. They are more than a mated pair, they are best friends, and seldom apart for long. The bird version of soulmates. They don't have to have kids, they are complete. But I hope for next season. Ty, J&S, for the lovely ceremony and song, it did me a lot of good! And SK, for bringing it to us! ❤️🦅🦅

I've watched these 2 🦅🦅's grow together for over 6yrs.. learning & loving. While it's sad that this batch of 🥚's didn't hatch, what's more important to me is watching how not a single crow got to an 🥚 either❣️ They're growing up b4 our 👀's & I thank those who who allow us such pleasures✌️🇺🇸🦅🦅.

In the last 6 years of you watching them how many eggs have successfully hatched ? I’m just curious, I’ve been watching them since the end of 2022 and sadly seen when the ravens got to the eggs last year :( and seeing them grieve . It’s the reason why I stay. I’d rather watch them than watch an other reality tv show.

yes they do have feelings. We have watched this for years with this couple. Their feelings show and teach. Our love for them is immense

Another unsuccessful season for this amazingly close pair, jackie & shadow have proved once again that their strong bond for each other will get them through the hard times like this once again.
It is like their last goodbye and final acceptance, but i wish it had been a different ending for them. I hope the gods up there will bless this very patient pair with a successful season next season🙏🏻

This was such an honor to watch Jackie bury her precious eggs. I think she did this for Shadow so they could move on. There singing was like a tribute to their very loved babies.
Yes Jackie came back later to do one last airation and say Goodbye to their babies with a proper burial. Shadow sang to her back home and her to him. ❤
It was quite a moment to witness that and feel the emotion of it all including the singing of both eagles, a testimony of their love & commitment to those unborn babies. Was very moving. ❤🙏

Couldn't stop tearing while (and after) watching this video. Especially hearing Jackie's painful cries doing farewell to her eggs, it was so tragic.
As the sun had set, it was so very amazing to see Jackie return and cover her eggs. Thank you for catching that most tender moment and of course when Shadow had been there earlier. 😢 She then flew off in song to him in song and they slept in peace for the night. It was sad but very beautiful. They are quite a pair, one of the most loving pair I have watched. God Bless you Fobby Friends. We hope to see their return next year. I will say they are so persevering through the toughest weather and the most beautiful sunrises. Tears. ❤❤

This is do sad to watch. I have watched other Eagle cams around the country and by far yours is the best. Jackie and Shadow are vocal and entertaining they almost seem human with their emotional bantering. When Shadow requests a fish Shadow is right there for her, his true love

This was my first year watching Jackie and Shadow and I have now grown attached! I have watched every day, had it on TV on the weekends and on my computer at work. I am going to miss them along with the beautiful scenery and calming nature sounds. Thank you to all those that manned the the camera 24/7 and gave us those amazing closeups. I will miss this loving pair and the group and look forward to when they return next year.

I think about the tine and effort Shadow and Jackie put into their eggs. They did everything they could. It is sad, but they show us how to handle this as only they can.

So incredibly heartbreaking. Everyone was praying for these babies to hatch. Such loyal parents. Praying for new babies for Shadow and Jackie. Watching the love and devotion these beautiful eagles shared was amazing. Humans could learn a lot from them.
