- A road trip to the capital of Cambodia, Phnom Penh, and many unavoidable scams! We had to cross the Laos - Cambodia border, one of the worst-rated borders ever on Google Reviews, and of course, they overcharged us! But anyway, it was a very long road trip, from the 4000 islands in Laos to Phnom Penh in Cambodia. And honestly, I don't recommend it!

Visa on arrival is 30 usd at the airport. I found Siem Reap to be more interesting than Phnom Penh.

Phnom penh was one of the dirtiest cities I have been to in SE Asia. I was there in 2017, was eating out on the streets and didn't get sick which was a miracle looking back now😂

Very nice video, Michele. I'm happy you finally got to your destination. That bus trip was long and a little stressful, especially with the damage tire. That hotel situation also happened to me a couple of years ago. The hotel I booked gave away my room, but they made good in the end by giving me a day free of charge and a complimentary wine and cheese platter👍. Thank you for sharing. I enjoyed watching 👍👍👍.

Cambodians are very picky about their dollars, little used or folded and they do not like it. maybe that is why they did not accept yours. And reason I heard is because they have their savings in dollars not riels, so they want their saving be are beautiful as possible.
Unfortunately many countries are the same, some refused to exchange my money cause there was a little line made by a pen in the corner of the bill
I fail to understand why you would receive US money from an ATM, in a country that has its own currency. A way to launder dirty money or what? After spending all those hours traveling from the border, and finally reaching Phnom Penh, I thought to myself, “Amen”. The worst is now behind. Then you are told that the hotel does not have your booking, simply brought about more frustration. The icing on the cake was to end up with a smoking room. I know EXACTLY what you thought and how you felt! You’ve got my sympathy 100%. I had to see my doctor today. While standing in line to check in, there was an older guy ahead of me who absolutely reeked of cigarette smoke. I could smell him 15 feet away. I lost it, and ended up telling him he smelled like an ashtray. Perhaps I crossed the line, but I simply could not help it. All in all, I was happy to see you obtained a non smoking room. A non smoking room with ass wipe stuck in the chair! Better days are coming my friend! 🤣. Thanks for sharing!

Anyway, Cambodia uses 3 currencies: local, USD, and sometimes near the border Thai. They say that their currency is very unstable, so they have to use the USD. But what is weird is that their currency over the years, instead of dropping, it kept the same value as the USD, so for sure there is some market manipulation.
You can choose USA or their currency
I feel your pain. I’ve done a few of those trips to the Bodia only to be kicked in the balls over and over.

Ricordo il mio viaggio in Cambodia nel 2018: con i tuk tuk bisogna sempre contrattare, il cibo non era economico, ma era molto buono, la birra in compenso costava pochissimo. Ah dimenticavo, i piloti di tuk tuk a volte ti offrono di tutto 😂

What a story! And just when I thought you were going to end up beat, the final killer with the image about the chair and the "paper toilet". You have wonderfully resilient personality Pan Ponte. We flew in and out of Siem Reap, visa on line and had a lovely time the whole stay. People were so kind and friendly, small charming hotel spotlessly clearn and all so cheap. Your suffering makes good video, but for you, such a brutal experience,...kurwa!...😒😄🤗

Iv had issues with hotel bookings through third party sites just like you its impossible to get what you paid for
The crazy part is that the hotel asked me to confirm privately via email, and they even replied to it.
But they completely forgot about me
