Just got mine today. I had the previous version but couldn’t stand the back panel. The new version is awesome with the new panel. Will likely be my travel pack - as much as I love my ultra dragonfly, it’s definitely isn’t as comfy when fully stuffed as the MPL.
I have the v.2 I use it as my surf fishing pack. Holds all my gear nicely and the frame sheet made a huge difference vs the North Face pack it replaced.
RE ALPHA 31 is also another great hiking/tech/travel edc contender!! Would you have plans to review that pack?! 🙃 Heard many great things about it, and seems to be a keeper pack for many! Love to hear you thoughts on it! 😊
Awesome review as always! One thing I don't understand about this bag is the size - if I'm day hiking 30L is maaassive. And if I'm backpacking I want something much bigger. What's the use case for a 30L outdoor bag size? Just for stuff where you want to bring a ton of gear?
Yeah it’s definitely a gear hauler but I think the design purpose is to give you a little more room but add the compression to cinch it down and be more versatile. I can see winter or mountain mode needing the extra space for layers.
I’d say it’s a great one to ruck in the a sandbag. I don’t think a plate would be very stable in there. The only problem with a sandbag is will probably ride low. Might want to use a yoga block in the bottom to get the weight higher on your back. This might make a good short video 🤔
Great question and the MPL30 is one of the most comfortable bags because of the aluminum bar/rod that holds its shape on the back panel. The larger bags have this (CTB35 too). The smaller ones are also quite comfortable...all the Evergoods bags are.
If you've had experience with the MPL30 v2, how much better is the new breathable backpanel? Does this update make a significant difference? AFAIK, this monofilament fabric was also added to the straps.
I can’t compare to the previous version but I really enjoy this back panel. I’ve used several versions of it and it’s very comfortable and breathable enough. It’s closed cell so nothing perfect but it works well.
I think evergoods make some really nice EDC/Travel bags. However, for real hardcore mountain climbing/ hiking, there are other brands to look at which are far more better for this specific purpose.
For the hardcore crowd I agree and that’s why I brought out the Mystery Ranch Scree. The MPL bridges the gap with great features and comfort and would be a good travel to trail option. For a dedicated outdoor backpack I have some other favorites! Thanks for the comment! 👊🏻
This vs the Mystery ranch coulee 30!
1:16 was a perfect addition to the video! Funny and seeing how it fits helps understanding the bag
Thanks! That would be a good comparison, I'll look into that for sure.

Possibly! It’s definitely on the list

Does it Ruck? I wonder how a long sandbag would do in there.

hi, which one is better this one or a stratos osprey ?
Mostly subjective when you just say "which one is better"...but I haven't used the Stratos. I do like this style and utility of the MPL30.
How does this compare to something like the Remote Equipment Alpha 31?
Unfortunately I don’t have one to compare. Future plans 😁
How is comfort on this vs the CPLs?
