- A quick break in the weather gave me chance to take the Royal Enfield Bullet Trials out for a few hours, heading to Lynmouth and a quick ride up the iconic Beggars Roost.
"Trials by name, but not by nature!" This is the first time I've actually ever seen one of these bikes used like this. Well done!
Great fun. I'm a big fan of those 500s but yes Himilayen everytime on that stuff. I'll have to try that lane sometime 👍🍻
Yeah give us a shout if you're heading over this way
Happy Christmas and New year..
"yeah its nice to be out isn it"
That's really the core of this video isnt it. Love it.
Nice video! I did Beggars Roost in the summer on a Meteor 350 having failed it during the Land's End Trial. The bike sailed up, but it was dry, and I did clout the exhaust pipe. Having now produced 3 versions of the new 350, it would be nice if RE built a trail version to accompany the 450 Himalayan. It's a very competent motor.
Merry Christmas to you and your family from Pennsylvania
I’ve filmed a few trails on mine. Last trail I took mine on was Claerwen in the Elan Valley. We took a CRF250, a Himalayan and my Bullet Trials. Great fun . Totally outclassed by the other 2, with no suspension and a poor position but boy did it go well. A real scream. Just remember it’s a proper 1950’s nostalgia trip. 😂 shame they’re too pricey for the Grand Challenge!
My parents had their honeymoon in Lynmouth in 1952, weeks before the big flood. If my mother was still living, I'd ask her which hotel they stayed in. Maybe the one that was swept away.
My favourite RE in action. At least to look at.
Enjoyable video, Nathan. Nick
Loving the more regular bike videos Nathan
Nice to actually see it in the daylight.
Lovely bit of the world.
Spent a few days down there last year, even bumped into a local celebrity leading a group of bikers on the longest ever lunch break😉. Have a good Christmas Nathan.
Merry Christmas Mr Millward, and a happy and successful new year to you and for Dorothy’s Speed Shop.
Brilliant Nathan need to see more of where you live and the lovely bikes you ride 👍
Thanks George. Will head out again soon.
Great ride and sound sentiments as ever. Would have loved to have been out for a ride and bit of head space, but cooking for in-laws duties today...!! Have a great Christmas and new year, and good mental health and safe riding to all 👍🎄
I've always liked the look and the styling of those trials bikes. Thanks for the info on what looks like a great event! As it's Yule today i shall wish you and yours a happy Yule and a very merry Christmas!
Thanks for sharing, just read about Kenneth Marsh who made 100 consecutive ascents of Beggars Roost in seven hours observed by the RAC driving his MG in 1930. Must have a go at walking it next time I am down that way.
Thanks again Nathan for a really enjoyable video, and a Merry Christmas to you and yours!
PS,thanks again for a great no nonsense channal!😊
Nice little slice, cheers Nathan
Love the neck-snappin' overtake, Nathan!😂Merry Christmas to you and yours and hopefully see you in the new year.
Love the Lands End Trial every Easter..! A real run wot u brung feeling.
Fantastic 🎄😎
What a gorgeous little bike,, unfortunately I've got loads of room in the wallet and none in the bike shed !! 😳 Have a great Xmas, hoping to get down west in the new year for a rideout 👍
Cheers bud merry Christmas ☃️🎅🏻
Enjoyed that Nathan. Love my 2016 Clasic 500 but NEVER off road LOL
Remember that lane from my day out with you on the CT125 postie, cracking day out and ride. Have a great Christmas and New Year
Yeah I don't take too many up beggars, not since I lost a footpeg with a group on the way down!
@@nathanthepostman you lost a couple of mirrors downhill with my group...🙈😂
@@sometimes_riding7008 Even Amazon ran out of postie bike wing mirrors this year so many got busted!
Have a great Christmas, Nathan, you and your family. Thanks for this video, a real epic!
I don’t think my Serow will ever do the Lands End or the Exeter LDTs in my hands, though that was the plan at one time. But they are great events, and I’m glad you had a go. I’m still mulling over your “Grand Challenge” though. Trying to get my hands on an Innova for that. Might see you in 2023 then.. Les
Great video Nathan. Lynmouth via the A39, Minehead and Porlock is one of my fav day rides from down here in deepest darkest Cornwall. The Lands End trial is great and must remember to make a point of catching the Blue Hills Mine section over near St Agnes, next year
Hey Steve. Yeah it's a great road for sure. Sadly we didn't make Blue Hills this year. Hopefully next time!
I really wanted a Trials 500. Fortunately I was able to test ride it first. The pegs are too far forward to stand and balance like on the Himalayan. I was disappointed because it would have made a great model for my ride photographs.
Thanks for the video Nathan, this clubs events look like genuine old school motoring fun. I would like to enter the Edinburgh run next year, which is in the Peak District I think.
Ha yes, Edinburgh run in the Peak District. I hear it's a good event, and a bit more manageable than the Land's End one as isn't it just in the day time
@@nathanthepostman Edinburgh runs through the night but I think (don't quote me) that you can elect to just do the daytime sections. Dick Whistles did it this year and has some vids on his channel.
I have a 2020 Trials in red frame like yours. Great on the back roads and fire trails in the Black Hills of South Dakota. I think my old OSSA 160 from 1966 was more competent off road.
I just bought a Trials 500. I certainly don’t plan on riding up hills like that. Lol.
One thing that puts me off that particular bike is the red frame ,,it looks so DIY
They also do it in green which a lot of people seem to prefer. Personally I quite like the red definitely not to everyone's tastes!
@@nathanthepostman Green was the frame colour on the original (and very successful) Royal Enfield Bullets works trials bikes. Today's production trials bike is really just a styling job (the footrests are too far forward and too low, so it won't grip or steer off road and will kill your feet in ruts) ...you will do better starting with a standard road bike and converting it using available aftermarket parts.
It was a bit warmer when I tried your bullet trials out, with my lad on the CRF, back in the Summer, hope you haven't scratched my 500 😉
I own a Classic 500 on which I have travelled across India. It has its many quirks, but I love it. However, I have now decided to retire it from long distance touring and only use it for short breakfast rides.
Those steps at the top where it rejoins the tarmac are Evil...on this year's trial (in a Dellow Trials car) we hit the step so hard it broke an engine mount.
As Nathan says...it's much, much harder at night. You can't read the terrain ahead or prepare for any of the bumps, and if you put a foot down that's a fail!
I thought that first trail was probably the worst, back near Watchet. Couldn't see a thing when you set off and then straight into a stop start on the off camber. I saw the seasoned guys with their helmet torches and realised quickly we were a bit underlit, especially the 6v CT110 we had running.
@@nathanthepostman Oh yes. I was actually glad to be in a car (a very old one with poor lights, but at least it had two lights . The mind plays tricks...it looked to me like there were tree-trunks across the track at one point there.
I sold my 1995 350 Bullet a couple of years ago as I was quite confident that the rear drum would ultimately kill me😀
It is a howler isn't it. Almost better not to have it so not to lull you into a false sense of security
Well the Bullet is actually a trials bike and dominated the competition for a very long time a very long time ago.Nowadays it is better used as a scrambler.
Nice part of the country! Not been down West country for years.
Long overdue but am def biased to Welsh borders n midlands.
But from here on Nathan, the days are getting longer again!
They are indeed!
Nathan just a different query what was your final thoughts on the Oxford mondial I’m looking at that or the alpinestars andes 3 thanks.
Too many people out there that take pleasure in taking fun away from others these days.
Brilliant Nathan. What time in 2023 is it on? I live in bridgy, so it would be silly not to get involved.
Usual April. Google lands end trial and it'll give entry details. Great event
@nathanthepostman ideal. How do you think a cg125 would fair? I need to change the tyres anyway.
@@jaymoore88 I think it'd do alright. Plenty do it on the C90s and they get up all the sections, sometimes with a bit of paddling but there's a lot of the smaller bikes take part these days.
@@nathanthepostmanthat's good to know.
I've mentioned the £999 challenge to the other guys and looks like they're up for it. We've you planning on doing Devon and Wales on different dates or all in one?
I expect a 350 Hunter would be better than that off road with the appropriate rubber. Happy Chrimbo.
These Bullets are a lot of money for not much bike.
They were like $5500 MSRP. You call THAT a lot of money??? Doesn't get much cheaper these days for a full size motorcycle that is almost all steel and aluminum.
@@bultacowally I do call that a lot of money when set against a Honda CRF 300, CB500X or Kawasaki Versys. all of which are better bikes in every department.
They won't be happy until they suck the joy out of everything.....and on that note ....Merry Christmas and a happy New year to you
