Yeah and the chances of a game this good ever happening again shrink by the year as the poisonous concept of "games as service" has defiled the media we have loved so much.
CDPR stand alone as the only developer with not just the capability but, unlike pretty much every other company in 2020, the willingness and integrity to create such a product. Can you imagine any of our once beloved and now sullied developers making this...? Rockstar...? Bethesda...? Gearbox...? Ubisoft..? EA...? Please...

I have over 200 hours in my current play through of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Level 51. 80 Ability Points. The Final Battle with Eredin awaits.
But to call the TW3 the King of RPGs is absurd and outrageous.
First of all TW3 isn’t even a true RPG.
Second of all certain idiotic and frustrating gameplay mechanics by CDPR in TW3 exclude it from even winning GOTY imho...
I avoided completing this game for years because of the immersion breaking Level Suggested Missions and Required Level Weapons & Armor.
There was nothing worse than reading an exciting sounding Witcher Contract, only to discover that it was nearly 20 Levels above my own. And by the time I reached the suggested level. I forgot all about the WC I wanted to experience.
Sir Geralt of Rivia is a professional monster hunter. Who employs no stealth gameplay mechanics whatsoever! You never feel like a true hunter while playing this game that’s suppose to be all about The Wild Hunt.
Every predator employs stealth, cunning and guile when hunting its prey. Lions fur matches the bush that they conceal themselves in while hunting gazelle.
We are given no freedom whatsoever to decide how we are going to hunt or prey. We can’t setup traps. There are no stealth kills. All Geralt can do is charge ahead at his prey and it’s dumb, lazy and uninspired.

The Skellige Isles portion of this game is one of my favorite parts of any game ever, going there and finding a whole new map to explore with new scenery, music, characters, and plot lines blew me away - I was expecting a shorter, scripted sequence of events. It could've been it's own DLC pack or even it's own game and I would of been happy - to have all that on top of the already expansive Velen was so amazing to me.

I bought it midway last year around June/July and started playing it and stopped when I was at the Keira Metz cave questline because I found the game a bit boring. Later when the Netflix show rolled around late last year and finished the show I started playing it again. A couple of months back from now and I had finished the Witcher 3 with the two of the DLC’s. Funny thing, I had no idea who gaunter o’dimm was when I first met him in hearts of stone but when I later learned through the power of the internet that you actually meet him way in the beginning in white orchard I was stunned. And when I bought the game I also bought the dlc’s knowing that they were really good according to the internet and boy were they right. It was one of the best games I have ever played. I am currently thinking about buying the books to read those and to make my laptop better to play the Witcher 1 and 2. Also 1 question: If I were to play Witcher 1 and 2 on PC/laptop, can I transfer my saves over to ps4 or must I play Witcher 3 plus dlc on PC/laptop in order to use that save your saves system with all of the dialogue options?

    • @Para2normal
      @Para2normal 4 роки тому

I've seen this debate many times before and I don't think it will ever be properly resolved. I think it depends on where you come from, I'm in my 50s and my introduction to RPGs were PnP such as D&D and as such we tend towards a more " purists" view of what makes a RPG. I would suggest that those whose experience of RPGs is through computer games have a freer interpretation of what makes a RPG, my view of Witcher 3 is that it is an action game with RPG elements, yours may well be that it is a RPG with action elements.
In the end though we all have a valid viewpoint and I don't see the point in arguing about it, I think most of us can agree this is a brilliant and deeply involving game.

While that is a complaint i can understand to an extent. I am not saying it isnt an rpg but the witcher 3 does lack many rpg features, obvious ones like actual skill trees, its got lack luster customization amongst many other things. It plays out more like an action/adventure game, especially with the way its upgrades work. In most rpgs you really feel growth but you can play countless hours in w3 and barley feel any different....... But hey its still a great game and i just take it as it is for what it is and not what it isnt.
using many peoples modern definition of role playing, any game with a story would count as an rpg lmao.

The DLC is actually fantastic. Blood & Wine is literally the size of most entire games, and Hearts of Stone is still quite large for a DLC and has a phenomenal story. It is obvious that they put just as much effort into the DLC as the base game. I actually held off on playing both for a couple of years, until I couldn’t stand it anymore and my Witcher jonez was too much. It was well worth it. No rush, they aren’t going anywhere....you will enjoy it.
I’m planning a 100% run on Death March later this summer. Haven’t done this yet. After Ghost of Tsushima, there will be a break before CP2077. Kinda done playing shitty action-RPGs. There are so many, and many attempt to copy the gameplay loop of W3, but unsuccessfully as the attention to detail just isn’t there. Always imitated, never replicated, Ubisoft.

A testament to the game's world building and story is the end. When you've finally beaten the game and you've watched the epilogue and credit scenes with secondary story endings and you get teleported back to Kaer Morhen. It is here that it hits you, the brilliant music recalling events, the emptiness of Kaer Morhen, that it's over and Geralt's story is finished. The feeling is alleviate
    d
by having Blood and Wine to do but even after that the feeling is the same his story is done albeit ending on a better note. In some ways, I wish they would have added npcs like Ciri wandering around just to breathe a bit of life back into the world that is sorely missing from the loss of the main cast. It's like saying goodbye to a dear friend or loved one while you're happy you spent the time together experiencing things, in the immediate aftermath it leaves only emptiness and a slight touch of sadness. Still, it's a masterpiece to this day.

How wrong I was. Even the "good" ending of HoS is heartbreaking. B&W didn't seem to make much sense at the beginning and parts of the narrative smelled a lot like typical horror stereotypes. But they did tie up all the loose ends and as the plot unfolds, you get just as invested as in the first two parts. And, since you miss the characters from WH, a little spoiler: There will be a pleasant surprise at the end of B&W (if you don't mess it up completely and get the worst ending)

The Witcher 3 isn't the king of RPGs, it's not even the emperor. It's the god of RPGs.
No game (series) ever has made me cry and laugh so much. The story, the characters; it's just beautiful. Heck, the Witcher game series inspired me to grow my hair out and design my longsword for reenactment after the style of the official steel sword of The Witcher 3.
The details in this game are so amazing; Geralt uses flashy fighting moves, the human enemies use sword stances based on HEMA-techniques. It's just such a small detail but so interesting. Or the music; you all remember the first time when you visited Skellige? So far you had mostly seen swamps, small hills, northern cities and suddenly you get snow-coated, rugged peaks, pines moving in the wind and the music "On the fields of Ard Skellig". Just gorgeous. Or when you meet Roche. One of the strong-headed characters in The Witcher 2 and now you meet him in TW3, hear that music and you just know: this man has lost everything; his king, his unit, his country. It's just amazing how much music can convey. And the lore: as someone who lives in Eastern Germany (so basically Temeria in game) it was so amazing to see all those Eastern-central legends and myths like Noonwraiths, Drowned Dead and Waterhags and architecture of medieval Poland. Also the synchronisation: while in my eyes the German synchro is the best in my opinion, they are all so well done. It's just the best RPG I have ever played.
About the combat; if you don't like it and are on PC: install the Enhanced Edition mod. It makes combat so much more difficult and yet complex. This mod will make you rip your hairs out and curse out of frustration like it should be, but if you engage with the system as necessary, it basically becomes a joke. Oh, a Noonwraiths is difficult to beat? Well, throw a Moondust bomb and you can just finish of the Noonwraiths laughing.
Anyway; beautiful video and happy late birthday to you! Especially that intro was so amazing to look at.
There is just one correction: if I remember correctly, Roach is a "she", not a "he".

There are definitely better VG soundtracks out there for me (AC2, HZD), but its how the music fits into this world, along side the wind blowing and NPCs bickering...it all creates a feeling like no other game music can. Almost like, I’m reminded of starting that epic journey for the first time. Thinking White Orchard was a pretty big map, only to realize it was basically a giant tutorial area. One look at the next map, and you realize you are in for quite the experience.

I did it in a few different pieces but I’ve finally watched the whole thing. Fantastic video. Summarises all the reasons why this is my favourite game.

Ok you convinced me, I'll go back to that game and try to immerse myself into it.
I didn't like the combat gameplay because of the rigid physics, and since it was my first RPG experience, i had a lot of difficulties finding my way through all the weapons, oils, powers and stuff. But this video helped me understand better how to manage all of that so i will give it another chance.
I hope i will enjoy it as much as all of you in the comments that says its the greatest game ever.
    Wish me luck

You are probably gonna enjoy the combat more ,on the highest difficulty, where you kinda need to untilize every part of it.
Don't wanna tell you how to play ,just something to keep in mind.
