I think these scales must be out. It’s too much of a difference. I have seen on someone else’s video of this exact bike that it comes in on the scales at 7.2. That being said, that is still 200g out
The SL7 is I think the exact weight they show on the web, I lifted one SL7 ML and was surprised that it was not so heavy, but there was a SLR9 Lidl color in size S and it seamed heavy, I was expecting something super light
If this bike is as fast as Madone Gen.7 with its new aero bottles and cages, does that mean Gen.7 Madone will be faster when equipped with the same aero bottles and cages? 😆
Great info and review of the spec and differences. Definitely bikes are getting slimmer again! The hole still feels somewhat a try too hard feature to me.
I totally see what you mean by concept bike. It does have that look. I thought the same until I saw the gen 8 in person. I think the shapes seem a bit more balanced. Photos though of the gen 7 looks incredible
I just set out to get a project one gen 7 dura ace only to see they stopped making them, and they’re sold out everywhere. I don’t like the new madone at all and my 2018 Emonda weighs 17lbs flat with mechanical Ultegra.
I feel the same. The Gen 7 feels like something Lamborghini conceptualized, and the new one looks like the tamed down final release to reach a broader audience.
The previous Madone was a far more handsome bike and the 2024 Emonda was a brilliantly versatile and quick bike that was really hitting its potential as a design. I can understand why Trek simplified the offering into one bike, as the two were merging into one another’s territory anyway. But this Gen 8 just looks a little soft/weak and is maybe struggling with getting the mixture right IMO. I just bought an SL7 Emonda and when I heard about the new Madone coming out I thought I had messed up - upon finally seeing the Gen 8, I’m glad I got the last Emonda.
Dude! That is a heavy bike. VERY surprised by the weight. My '09 madone (mind you I have overhauled and kept it as up to date as i can without going disc) weighs 16.65lbs or 7.55kg. It's full ultegra, cable everything, 11spd, and rim brake. Bontrager D3 TLR carbon wheels.
After this video, I have seen this exact bike weighed in at 7.2kg on another set of scales. I suspect it was a dodgy weighing scale. That being said, I still think 7.2 without pedals for a m/L is heavy.
I wonder where that extra weight is compared to the sl8. Maybe the crazy paint jobs and the iso flow? Or did they choose to go more aero than the sl8 and so still needed the extra weight?
It’s hard to say isn’t it. I did also think paint but surely that’s only 100-150g? I still reckon you would probably need a sensitive wind tunnel to tell the difference between this and the sl8.
@@cyclingunboxed some of the glossy finished S-Works SL8's come in at damn near the weight of the matte finished 10r Pro SL8's so paint can easily account for 150g. The new Madone is a porker though and, component for component, seems like it will always be nearly a pound heavier than an equally specced SL8. hopefully its ride quality continues to be exemplary.
1) the gen 7 is not heavy. It’s a true aero bike which is supposed to have a little more weight 2) the gen 8 is not as light as they claim- not even close - so that 320 grams is BS The gen 8 is not faster than the gen 7. Road SLR 7 gen 8 and my current SLR 7 gen7- the new one is not faster , not more comfortable. The lack of sizes available- is gonna hurt more people than they think.
Nearly bought a gen 8 in XL because I liked the design until I saw an actual image of how the XL looks and boy the proportions are way off. Getting a gen 7 in size 60 now which looks way better for this bigger size
I do think for most bike, the 54/56/58 are the best looking geometry wise. However if you are larger, the bigger bikes do better with the deeper tubes so I think you have made the right choice from an attractiveness perspective
This is an Emonda with the Madone A hole. Uglier bike in my opinion…Seen it, ridden it…Not a fan. To be honest, the Gen 6 LOOKS better than both 7 and 8. 77s and 320g…Not.a racer, so… The Madone is the most comfortable bike I have ever been on and owned. It’s great for metric and century rides…Serious.
My dad has had both the Gen 6 and Gen 7 and preferred the comfort of the Gen 6. I have a review coming out next Sunday on the Gen 7 and I was pleasantly surprised by how good it felt when climbing and the comfort of the bike.
LOVE Trek. Big supporter, used to sell them. They stand by their product and produce GREAT products. Bontrager is phenomenal and equally made its place in history as a great component manufacturing for all things bicycles. Everything I own and thus my wife and kids own is TREK / Bontrager. 2 madones, a verve, and an X-caliber. All ride as advertised and deserve the hype. Phew. Ok so with that said. I am getting sick of the higher end marketing. These claims of "saves you 77 seconds over the previous model!" Sounds like political jargon. Talk. Like if you asked how they would be like "well we found when we tested the new madone above sea level on a 70deg day in sunny no wind conditions - it's 77 seconds faster than the previous model at sea level in the rain and no wind." Ya know? Like it's just sticker slapping with acute angles to make those claims - is how it sounds. When i bought my madone in 2009 at the shop i worked in, it was a pro level 5.2 OCLV black with Race Lite wheels and full ultegra. Race worthy and ready. VERY FAST. 3700 was the sticker price. So in 15 years the prices have doubled and that's not even top line models like this one. 13000 for this madone. INSANE.
That, along with all the aero claims. Every year, it's the same nonsense: 'This new bike is X% faster than the previous model.' If we added up all those percentages from previous years, the bike should literally ride itself by now, lol.
I said it on the video but I think it only matches the previous gen because of those water bottles. I will say though that aero isn’t something that we can see and going smaller does reduce the area component of cda. Probably the most important aspect of aero. I think just because the tubes aren’t as deep, doesn’t make it less aero. I’m sure Tour magazine will get this in their wind tunnel and put it to the test! We shall find out then

Weight ML - 7.00 kg / 15.44 lbs on their website

Great comparison between the two bikes!! I really like the slimmed down look of the emonda, would love to try it out!
Great video jason! It was really cool to meet you and lets go for a ride soon😁
Was nice to meet you guys too!
Absolutely. Let me know when you are next heading out Surrey way 🤙
If this bike is as fast as Madone Gen.7 with its new aero bottles and cages, does that mean Gen.7 Madone will be faster when equipped with the same aero bottles and cages? 😆
Pretty much yes, they pulled the same line with the Venge and the Sl8.
Yup. The advantage of the aero bottles is narrower frontal area and smooths out the transition to the seat tube from the down tube by quite a lot.
Maybe! And probably!
Great info and review of the spec and differences. Definitely bikes are getting slimmer again! The hole still feels somewhat a try too hard feature to me.
Great comparison between the two bikes!! I really like the emonda so I personally prefer this slimmed down look. Will definitely be trying one out.
I think the Gen 7 is just better looking overall, more aggressive and more like a “concept” bike
I totally see what you mean by concept bike. It does have that look.

Yeah, and gen 7 looks good in all version. I mean in sl verion and slr. It looks fast and it is very fast 😊
I feel the same. The Gen 7 feels like something Lamborghini conceptualized, and the new one looks like the tamed down final release to reach a broader audience.
@@cokebottles6919 yea kinda, i like the gen 8 more, it looks adult, not like a toy

I think as you get to the larger sizes 58+ this is definitely the case

7.6 kg without pedals is too heavy for a climbing bike.
I think it’s probably the most dissatisfying part of the bike. I was also expecting lighter
Sad that they lost so much aero over gen 7 for such a little drop in weight.
This new bike is proof that all bikes are just a big marketing lie.
I assume you are referring to the weight of the bike here?
That, along with all the aero claims. Every year, it's the same nonsense: 'This new bike is X% faster than the previous model.' If we added up all those percentages from previous years, the bike should literally ride itself by now, lol.
It weighs 7.26kg on ua-cam.com/video/9qkmR2e5ltI/v-deo.html
Why do you weigh 7.66kg?
It's even the same size
Yeah maybe double check those scales I think. Or maybe empty the water bottles?
I think scales variation is probably the main factor here.
Water bottles were empty but it is also strange to weight with them on.
@@cyclingunboxed Yeah, I think if you change your scale, the result will change
@@cyclingunboxed official specs say 7.10, the Gen 7 was also closer to 7 than this.
