@@BatesRacing I just got thru doing he back brakes, took 4 hours! The damn bracket that holds the pads are lock tite it in! I noticed you didn;t show that !!
@jackhouston357 crazy! I had no trouble with my rear brakes since I already struggled with the front bolts being on so tight. I guess each truck is a little different 🤷 glad to hear you got through it though!
That “little notch” you referred too is a wear indicator, when the pads get low those metal tabs will touch the rotor and start squealing to inform you it’s time for brakes before you get to metal on metal
FYI that tab on the rear pad you were not sure had a purpose….thats the tab that lets you know when to change the pads and will make the squeel sound when your pads to low
It’s worth noting… When pressing the caliper pistons back in, you should crack open the bleeder screw so you’re not putting undue pressure in the brake lines. The step would also force out any air bubbles or inconsistencies in the fluid level. Great video and information on the Z 36 performance kit
In all my years doing brakes I have never cracked the bleeder screw on the caliper to compress them. All you need to you is take the cap off the master cylinder to uncap the pressure. All that fluid will be pushed back into the master cylinder where it comes from. The brake lines are made to take pressure that isn't going to ruin them.
Hmmm i honestly dont remember the mileage at the time of recording, but now I have more than 44,000 on the truck. These brakes are the best I've ever had on a vehicle, I highly recommend quality brake upgrades!
Even after putting the parking brake into service mode it will not retract, I don’t have c clamps to use right now as I cannot find them, and am waiting on a buddy to bring some by to borrow. I only have one side off right now, do you think that may be an issue?
@@kabayanoverland I had someone bring me a c clamp lol. You’ll need about a 6 or 7. A 5 barely worked. I heard you can loosen the bolts a little and use a flathead to pry it back while everything is still on the rotor but I’d stick with a c clamp.
Ordered it through CarID and payed a little over 500 but I forget the exact number since I ordered another part in the same purchase. Brake squeak on stock brakes? That's unusual, but I highly recommend the upgrade
@@jamesmlatnik8855 its several part numbers. CarID has a good fitment check system, if you just search powerstop z36 kit, you should find the rotors and pads easily. I did front rotors, rear rotors, front pads, rear pads, each of which is a different part number. Put the details of your truck in the website and you should be good to go! P.S. The reason I'm not providing part numbers is to avoid liability if the part number I recommend doesn't fit your truck. Good luck! 😎👍
My research indicated that it was optional, so I decided not to use it but save it in case the brakes made noise. 20k miles later not a single squeak! Awesome pads and rotors. What do you mean by lots of other details? Details I covered or missed?
@@njkay0033 yes, but make sure you pick the right kit for your vehicle! The later years of the C4 were all upgraded to the performance kit, so it depends on the year your car is
I didn't forget, the paste is optional. The instructions in the kit state to use the paste if excessive noise is noticed. Also, why would I clean brand new clips?
@@BatesRacing But what about the pins? Did you pull those out of the boot and inspect and put a light coat of paste on them? That certainly isn't an optional grease point...
No, these are Powerstop Brakes that are designed to rotate this way. Check out their Instagram, they have a reel showing proper direction and why they spin this way. Different brands may have the slots spinning the opposite way though, so I understand the confusion.
glad I watched this first, didn't know about the electronic brake release, THANKS!!
Me neither, and nobody else on UA-cam had a video mentioning it! So of course I had to 😎👍

Great video and I believe that is an impact driver that you used with the T30.
Did I miss how you removed the rear rotor????
Those Torx bits will be a pain for anyone living where they salt. So much easier on the classic model.
Unfortunately the rear wheel bearings and rear brake rotors/calipers on the 1500 series RAM are weak from the factory.
No they're not lol
My 2019 rotors pulsated till I replaced front and rear pads and rotors

Mine has 50k on it and my rear pads were to metal!!! My 2015 Chevy 2500 had 110k never needed to be changed
crazy... these trucks are tough on their brakes but thats definitely too fast to wear! Hopefully an upgrade will help

Where did you get the kit from and how much. I'm over the brake squeak issue since day one from the anti-rattle clips. 2020 ram rebel

Don't compress .🧐Just the rear brakes ❓
