I've had this same brake kit on my 2500 6.7 for two years and they're awesome. Still plenty of life in them after 50,000 miles too. Huge difference from stock and they look great. 100% recommended!
@AutoEdits so I've heard very good things about powerstop rotors & pads. All great reviews in relation to low brake dust and no rotor warping. However I've seen quite alot of complaints about the quality of the calipers. Lots of reports of rusting, leaking and general low quality on the calipers. How have yours held up over the last 5 years?
@@jonh2408 Those were on the OE calipers but about two years ago I replaced all four rotors, pads, and calipers with Powerstop's kit and I haven't had any issues.
@@jonh2408 I hadn't really looked at them so I walked outside to check. There's no rust, at all. And the red powder coating is 100%. I wiped them down too, just to be sure. It's worth mentioning that I live on the coast of North Carolina where it rarely snows. So we never have salt/brine on the roads. If I still lived in Michigan, that would likely be a different situation. I'd imagine the people who've had issues with these calipers live in areas that see frequent road salt.
Thank you for the reminders of the details of proper procedural detail that most people don't bother with in their garage, or even their shop, such as use of red and blue Loctite in the right places. Just wanted to let you know that I have had my new Powerstop brakes on for a few days now and the difference In performance from stock is amazing!!! Thank you so much for sharing this video with us! My next mission is to fit 37’s on my truck as soon as the 3” body lift is installed next week! I already have a Bilstein 5100 levelling kit on my truck with the front end set at 2.8” and a 1” rear spacer in the back. I did some trimming already just for my 35’s after I just had 2” hub centric wheel spacers installed. I am assuming that I’ll have to run with no wheel well liners up front. I’m amazed that no one has manufactured custom wheel well liners for folks like us wanting to run larger wheels on our Ram 1500’s! Seeing your build come along has inspired me to upgrade my own truck. Keep them coming!
I've got them on my 2007 2500 Ram 5.9 4wd. The truck with popup camper weighs a whopping 9260# The stock brakes are very competent UNTIL you install Powerstops. Geez what an improvement. Silent and next to no dust.
Ive used powerstop on a few cars now and next up is my tundra. The brake pads/rotors are top notch. Much improved over any other combo I’ve used. I used to use hawk performance pads and different rotor brands.
I wish I would have found this video a week ago! I had to replace both front rotors, calipers and pads on my 11 1500! I went with a different company but basically the same products. The stopping power is AMAZING! I wasn't sure how the red would look on my metallic brown RAM, I was stunned! The rear brakes will be next! 😎
Jason I started watching your Channel primarily for the Jeep content but all the videos you produce are so entertaining, educational, and well done I enjoy watching all of them. Thanks for the great content.
Like the paint scheme on your truck..... I checked with tire gurus and RAM 1500 4x4 with 20" wheels 305 is the biggest tires that can fit with minor modifications.....so thanks for sharing your mods. I am building an Overlander rig and trying not to go too high but want to fit decent tires for ground clearance and spend money on good strut/shock's to beef up the suspension. But I think I may end up getting different front wheels or offset adapter plates. Great videos, keep them coming!
ty so much for the video on how to install the powerstop brakes. I have a 2014 1500 ram crew cab 4x4 and installed the new rotars and pads. Didn't have the $ for new calipers but it's installed and I did the break in as stated on the handout. Your vid was straightforward and very helpful getting me to do it and not pay my dealer $1200.00 or a shop that was going to cost upwards of $600.00, again ty very very much.
Very nice and informative presentation there boss. I'll give em a call I guess. Thanks for this great it vid and please keep up the great work! 😎👍
I struggled with their website as well. Went to Amazon www.amazon.com/shop/autoedits/list/26LU9WFBO44QN?ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d and found my way from there.
You would be correct! That is what I learned as well but because the video was already set up for that wheel I started there and it ended up working out perfect.
On newer vehicles with 4 wheel ABS, this really is not an issue, as each wheel has a dedicated brake line. But on older vehicles, this is a very good tip.
Actually that is not always the case, Always check what the bleeding sequence should be for your particular make and model vehicle! For example my truck is RR, LF, LR, RF
I had this exact kit for my 06 ram quad 1500, had it installed at a dealership. It did not perform as expected, pads were gone in 24k miles, unexpected. Looked closer when putting new pads on, 2 of the calipers were seizing. Was not prepared for next failure. 2weeks into new (powerstop z36 pads), pads were completely gone. My fault, I should have looked at rotors after calipers showed failing, rotors were warped causing the new calipers to bite harder, which destroyed the new pads. I ended up buying new rotors and pads (again). Bought Autozone duralast blackmax pads and blacked out rotors. In much better shape now. And so you have a driving background, I drove my truck to tow my boat (3500lbs), and drive long distance for trips, have a car for back and forth to work.

It would be really nice if they made a brembro style brake for these ram trucks where the pads just slide out threw the top and the whole apparatus doesn’t have to be stripped down and rebuilt
Those look great. Hey I use one of those mightyvac kits all the time and I have found that the bleeder valve threads needs to be wrapped with thread tape that's where those tiny air bubbles are coming from, around the threads. Cheers
You are absolutely insane, You are definitely not supposed to use thread tape on any of the bleeders , banjo bolts or any other of the brake components! That is some backyard mechanic BS, Those little air bubbles don’t mean a thing!
When you pump it up and open the bleeder valve, you are breaking the seal and sucking air between the bleeder and hose. That is why the air goes away when you open the bleeder more. Open the bleeder enough to begin with so the hose won't be the easiest spot for the suction to relieve itself and suck air. Just look back over the video, and you will see how the air stopped each time once you opened up the bleeder all the way.
I just ordered this exact same kit for my Ram 1500 based on your video Jason! I also have the Flowmaster Outlaw exhaust and have done a bunch of other upgrades! Gotta love this platform eh bud? ;)

And what about long arm or long travel kits. Does the icon stage 5. Do what you had hoped because as of now it is on the list
I wish I was that calm and organized when working on my vehicles. It typically involves constant cursing, blood and possibly beer - depending on how much cursing and blood :P
LOL! There have been plenty of times that I "air mailed" tools across the garage or sprung a leak in my hand... check out the Jasper Engines install video (that one hurt and bled like crazy) but after a few deep breaths and a couple of beers... I remember how ridiculously lucky I am to have such problems!!! Thanks so much for watching!
I doesn't really matter as much now that most vehicles have discrete lines to each wheel. Back in the day when that was the recommendation, both front and rear wheels had one line from the reservoir and a "T" to each side.
Their website, which you quote above, says "Every caliper is expertly remanufactured". What were they before they were remanufactured? Any guess what manufacturer etc?
If someone else has already mentioned this.... disregard... but.... If you use a vacuum bleeder, you have to be careful not to open up the bleeders too far. If you do, it will allow air to pull around the bleeder (threads) and show air in the fluid when there is none in the lines. As a rookie Army mechanic, I learned this on my own after wasting half an hour on a caliper replacement.
Good tip. I account for that when I'm bleeding by pushing in the screw and waiting for the air to flow to the top of the fluid line. In the video you might notice that at the end of a bleed the tube is solid fluid. Again, great tip though!
Why did you lube the brake pad contact areas? I would think this would be a dirt serious magnet and cause them to prematurely seize. Especially if you go off paved roads at all. What I do to eliminate this issue is to undersize the brake pad contact points to ensure they have enough clearance to never seize. Just curious. Thanks.
I noticed that you did not have to use shims on your 1500. Is that because your application does not need them? I have a 2500 and the pads just don't want to go in with the shims in place.
Not at all, you'll be thrilled with the pads and rotors... I just liked the fancy red newness. Make sure to do the "seat in" procedure detailed on the inside lid of the pads box.
Sounds like warped rotors. I have really loved the Powerstop kit I installed in this video and highly recommend it. Get it from my amazon store and install it yourself!
How's your peddle I heard that using the drilled an slotted rotors vs stock ones you'll lose a lot of your peddle also how would they fair on a 2003 dodge ram 2500 4x4 with the 5.9 Cummins in it
Thuren Fab or Carli for the suspension. I'm so jealous of this truck! I'm still curious how they got 5.13's in the differentials and where I could get them.
While it may not ever cause issues for you to use red thread lock on brakes, the rule of thumb I follow is if you are never taking it off again use red, for everything else blue usually does the trick.
You don't do a lot of off-roading do you. Rule of thumb in off-road is, if you never want it off again use green and everything that is bigger then a 1/4" use red.
autoedit Yup, I needed brakes n i had just watched your video n i looked if powerstop made stuff for a prius. An behold n upgraded slotted & drilled rotors kit n ceramic pads... thx for all the great content. Josh
I have followed you for over a year now and I have a 2015 ram and I absolutely love you truck. I asked you hear while back about stuffing 37's on my Ram. Anyways I have been looking for a front bumper for ever and just couldn't find one I like. Most are so huge a d chunky. I have watched all your videos and I was watching this one again because I'm getting ready to do my breaks and OMG I never noticed your bumper, WOW can I get the name and manufacturer if possible.?
Quick question. Why is it so bad if air gets into the brake master cylinder, but when you started to build a vacuum, the air that was entering the loose line wasn't a problem? Or is that just the unwanted air that's in the caliper escaping?
Love the DIY Video. Looking to do this myself on my RAM 2017 BIGHORN. I’d like the beefed brakes that you installed. But I don’t do off reading nor have my truck lifted yet. It’s basically a daily driver...would it be overkill if I installed the same setup you have or do I go for the daily driver version? I want the best in performance braking but I don’t want any issues because I don’t have a big wheel setup like you
I highly recommend this setup for a daily driver! NO brake dust at all and just better performance all the way. I don’t think you need to do the red calipers unless you want them... my Jeep just has the z36 pads and rotors and is great.
So when you were bleeding the caliper I noticed a lot of air bubbles in your video and it didn’t look like you kept bleeding to get rid of it, does that matter if your still pulling air bubbles?
I've had this same brake kit on my 2500 6.7 for two years and they're awesome. Still plenty of life in them after 50,000 miles too. Huge difference from stock and they look great. 100% recommended!

Those were from pro comp suspension.
Thanks
I know you probably noticed no torque wrench or proper ppe lol
Good video. Looks like your in Bouquet Canyon in Socal.
Who is the maker of your front bumper? Will it work with winch also? I like it the fact that it has skit plate on the bottom.
nice video, truck sounds good.
Thanks! I like it a lot.
Thanks.
I just use brake grease... works great and I go off road a lot.
I noticed that you did not have to use shims on your 1500. Is that because your application does not need them? I have a 2500 and the pads just don't want to go in with the shims in place.
Do you have to replace the calipers? I just got the brakes and rotors for mine
Not at all, you'll be thrilled with the pads and rotors... I just liked the fancy red newness. Make sure to do the "seat in" procedure detailed on the inside lid of the pads box.
Thanks for the info. My factory rotors are warped. And my truck has 74,000 miles on it this is my first front brake replacement
Good luck and hope the install is kind of fun!
Thanks it will be fun
Hey man geeat video! Ive been having brake shake and new to trucks. Have to press down super hard in order to slow down. What do you think will help?
Sounds like warped rotors. I have really loved the Powerstop kit I installed in this video and highly recommend it. Get it from my amazon store and install it yourself!
Do the calipers come in different colors ?
Yes, I think they do now.
AutoEdits thank you and keep up the great work
How's your peddle I heard that using the drilled an slotted rotors vs stock ones you'll lose a lot of your peddle also how would they fair on a 2003 dodge ram 2500 4x4 with the 5.9 Cummins in it
Do you still recommend the brake kit?
ABSOLUTELY! I run it on all my vehicles... even put the kit on my 1995 Tahoe.

Thank you, I appreciate the advice
Hello the calipers in addition to the color, what changes compared to the originals?
Rebuilt and powder coated.
Thuren Fab or Carli for the suspension. I'm so jealous of this truck! I'm still curious how they got 5.13's in the differentials and where I could get them.
I think the rear gear set came from G2
While it may not ever cause issues for you to use red thread lock on brakes, the rule of thumb I follow is if you are never taking it off again use red, for everything else blue usually does the trick.
You don't do a lot of off-roading do you. Rule of thumb in off-road is, if you never want it off again use green and everything that is bigger then a 1/4" use red.
Good info, thanks!
This is kind of the "rule of thumb" I've been going with the last several years.
how is the zinc finish now that some time has passed do the rotors still have a nice finish like when they were new?
Just upgraded all 4 on my 2014 prius lol. Brakes & rotors
For real? Awesome!
autoedit
Yup, I needed brakes n i had just watched your video n i looked if powerstop made stuff for a prius. An behold n upgraded slotted & drilled rotors kit n ceramic pads... thx for all the great content.

That link doesn’t offer an option for 2018 power wagon
Are you thinking about getting some HD UCA's with ball joints or Uniball construction? Also what about the rear CA's and panhard bar?
Yes, yes and yes!
Sounds like that new hemi is still running great
I LOVE IT! Yes, this thing runs better than new for sure.
Amateur question. How did you go about getting the truck up on the four stands and how do you go about getting it down.
It was built by Randy Ellis designs but they don’t do them anymore because they are really expensive.
@@AutoEdits OMG! In Phx? I live in Phx...
Quick question. Why is it so bad if air gets into the brake master cylinder, but when you started to build a vacuum, the air that was entering the loose line wasn't a problem? Or is that just the unwanted air that's in the caliper escaping?
That was the air from inside the caliper. If you suck air from the top of the master cylinder, it is very difficult to get that out of the system.
autoedit got it, thanks!
Long travel, with deavers in the rear and king shocks in all 4 corners
So noted!
How are they still holding on, how is the power stop on the brakes
I still love them... one of the best upgrades to the truck for sure!
this is gonna be the next upgrade to my ZR2. right now it feels like im stopping a tank
You will be thrilled with the difference this upgrade will make.
would you consider the RamRunner kit or too expensive for what use you'll do?
I talked to some folks at Dodge when I was at the SEMA show this year and they don't make that for this year truck anymore... sad face
it cant be! i was looking forward to getting it within the next year :(
So when you were bleeding the caliper I noticed a lot of air bubbles in your video and it didn’t look like you kept bleeding to get rid of it, does that matter if your still pulling air bubbles?
Of course, the whole point is to bleed the air out of the caliper.
Hey Jason what do you think of the new JL specially the diesel when it comes out?
I love the multiple engine choices and look forward to learning more about the rig itself next year!
Will this fit on 17" wheels?
Yes
Love the video, what brand of vacuum brake bleeding tool do you have?
