2 kid seats in the back?! You da real MVP!!! 😎
I have 3 year old twins with the same exact seats in my '15 sti! Feels good to see someone else who can feel my joys and struggles of putting two kids in car seats in Texas summers.
My launch was set at 4k ish and it seems to launch pretty good. I’ve only launched it twice, one was by myself and the other won me a race even though I locked myself out of 4th due to my foot being faster than my hand.
great video, waiting for my 2020 WRB STI to arrive in 8 days. You are correct, the STI trans can take a beating....just gotta becareful with the clutch. I had a 2004 WRB STI and regretted trading that in. MY 2004 STI took a beating and never broke. Not exaggerating, I clutched dump that well over 50 times on straightaways and doing donuts. ....but yeah, when doing so, do at your own risk....lol...since I'm a older, i'll treat this STi better....
I have two of them and I agree. My 140k STI had a hard life and feels great even now after 100k of hard miles. I have a second 2004 STI at 60k that doesn't get out much, more a dyno baby. As long as you're willing to do maintainence you'll be golden. Also no light weight Fly wheels, you don't save much and it's the only time I've seen issues shifting. Tranny looks perfect still. IT's insane.
Glad I’m not the only proud papa with a young kids car lol I got 4 little ones they all love the subi!
Hairy is right. At about 350-370 Whp I could get some hard pulls on 245/30 tires. Many years later I have a 600 HP STI that was hitting 28 PSI around 4500 RPMs and it decided to skip about 15 feet left. I later tested to try and repeat the problem and think I just had more traction on one side from poor city roads. Bad driver and bad road = ME
aye jersey resident here 🙏🏽 im getting my new wrx on monday
Awesome video. I will set my launch control up one day... Still pretty nervous to try it.
Super cool video. I always wondered how launch control works and this is just the guide i needed!
I just burnt tf outta my clutch on accident 😅 won’t be doing that ever again smh
Cool video! The cluster looks great, I have leather one from overland based upon your review and video and I love it.
How quick do you dump the clutch? Woulda loved to see your foot work during the launch.
Quick haha. If you hold onto it, you'll slip the clutch badly and do even more premature wear. If I had more cameras on hand, I would have done more angles. But I assure you, you just dump the clutch so it engages hard.
@@Autofreakgarage lol makes sense. Thanks for the reply!
Is it safe to dump the clutch? How fast do you dump it? I’ve always wanted to but read a lot of reviews it’s bad to dump it quick.
I explain all of this in the video.
My kids love to rally in my 1985 awd rx turbo with the 06 sti swap 400 wheel torque, I get a 3-2-1 blast off untill they hear the turbo soool up then they throw their arms up like a roller coaster.
I use Tactrix cable and tiny wrex patch to do launch control, Cobb sucks bad, if you want power to open source and let a true tuner custom tune your car like myself. Cobb access port sucks balls
Looking at getting a 2015 launch edition. What do you guys think.
So is your access port going to continue limiting your rpm's to 5200 until you change it back, or does it just limit for the launch?
Just for the launch
I would recommend using the hand brake technique, it takes all the slack of the drivetrain.
That is one way to do it when doing it manually without launch control.
Agreed even with launch control this is good practice
Are you certain trac mode doesn't completely disable TCS? I know that the difference advertised in the manual is that Trac Mode keeps the torque vectoring via the brakes available while disabling TCS, but perhaps it doesn't fully disable TCS despite not explicitly saying so in the book nor visually indicating on the gauge cluster.
I’m sorry if this is a dumb question but you hold the clutch in and just let go entirely of the clutch pedal in first gear? Wouldn’t it stall the car if you let go completely? Just a curious question I’m interested in buying a 2016+ STI here in New Jersey as well
It would if you applying enough throttle, yes.
Interesting that you don’t have incline assist off, you like it? I hated it. Killed the car twice in traffic because of it, and I’ve driven manuals for 13 years lol
Haha it doesn’t bother me as actually. I’ve turned it off before, but couldn’t stand the little light on the dash.
This is such a great channel
would you suggest keeping the DCCD on auto for the best possible launch? or have it open
Keep it in auto
Nice video..! Just a quick question...do your tuner need to download something on the accesport or you can use it just after install the accesport into your car..? Thanks
Launch control is available to use from the accessport as soon as you get it. It’s not from your tuner.
Could you also do a vid on flat foot shifting cuz I've never one straight forward? Thanks
I’ve never tried flat foot shitting in this car yet
Can i still use the cobb ecu's launch control if i got a protune instead of the ecu tune?
Yes
thanks!
Awesome vid and tip cheers
Clean intro!
Good video!
2 questions, where did you get the cluster cover and do you need to be tuned at all to do this? My car is 100% stock but I want this so bad
ua-cam.com/video/15rKKUUtUBo/v-deo.htmlsi=mhddiDro0g-gvTDT
Yes you need to have an accessport on the car to set the launch control.
@Scoobyfreak86 cool man thanks
Nice vid! Where did you get those LED fog lights? Are those for the 2018+ sti’s?
Fogs are diode dynamics ss3. Drl’s are the olm jdm bezels.
have you got pulled over with running this exhaust set up? I’m in NY but i don’t wanna be getting pulled over too much lol.
I’m debating on which to get either the awe track edition catback or the remark catback 🤷🏽♂️
Never gotten pulled over in this car.
What exhaust are you using is that factory?
Delta motorworks catback
What’s your wheel/tire soecs
Do you keep the C diff in the middle on purpose? Is it bad if you have more power to the rear diff when launching?
Only leaving it in auto to let the car do it's thing. You can bring it tot he rear a bit, but it would put more stress on the rear axles and potentially cause them the wear prematurely or breaking (depending on your power level).
Where can I get one of those sti gauge cluster covers?
ua-cam.com/video/15rKKUUtUBo/v-deo.html
This works on a WRX premium as well? (Not an STI)
This one specially is for an ej25 STI.
Did you cut your fenders for that wheel fitment?
No cutting. Rear fenders are rolled.
I always turn off traction control. At all times.
Is it safe if stock?
Do you think I should hold the same 5200rpm on a wrx
I’m not as familiar with the fa platform, but best advice is to try different rpm launches. See what works best for your car.
@@Autofreakgarage I was saying for the 2008-2014 wrx models
@@arischklar9938 Yes, but be careful with the GR wrx. Those 5spd transmissions aren't made like STI's. They can be launched, but they are known to be made of "glass". I've launched my 13 WRX a few times and had no issues, but I would definitely be careful.
@@Autofreakgarage thank you!
I know you've had it a little while now but, how's the Cobb intake been?
Amazing. Absolutely love it.
@@Autofreakgarage I know you mentioned you noticed lower IATs. Does this still stand true to your experience? Also how much reduction in induction noises did you notice? Thanks Chris
Yes. Still holding true. Not much reduction at all. It sounds great.
5200 huh? I'll have to try that! But first!!!....... I already need a new clutch! Lmaoooooo
Might as well finish it off!
@@Autofreakgarage yeah thats what I'm thinking. I also wanna have some friction left so I can get to work next week lol. It's good for normal drive but any sort of pulls and it slips for a little bit, then catches, and regain power. Feels odd but I'm picking my buddy's ACT clutch and flywheel that came off his blob eye and only has about 500 miles on it. Just broken in. Should be more than enough to handle 360 wtq
I would do 5200 but lowkey it bogged a little. So I jumped it up to 5500 and that bitch eats.
I got a 17 sti stage 2 plus. Keep it on track mode. With auto dccd on. If ur on minus you'll spin back. And front spins on plus. So in auto at 5500 I've seen best performance but also like he said don't do it to much. Frfr. But 5200 definitely bogged for me. Not hard but enough to yell
@@dustindelaney2255 I barely do launches anymore. I just want my clutch to last so that way I can make it to work everyday and not have to drop another $1500 or so to put a new one in lol
Thought the “stepped in poop method” was better for launching
put that c diff to manual and lock her up!
Why not just drive with the traction off the whole time?
Where did you get that fog cover
Subispeed
Did you get rid of the Zr10s?
ua-cam.com/video/QSOg7Y5BMzQ/v-deo.html
Are you complete stock motor wise? Just stage 1?
Just a stage 1+ tune from Brentuning, Cobb redline intake, Deltamotorworks catback, and turbosmart kompact bpv.
@@Autofreakgarage Awesome, I picked up an accessport today for my 19 sti and it’s stock and idk if I should try this or not lol
Song at the end?
will this work for a wrx fa20?
Yes same concept in the fa as well.
Launch control
after you do the launch and shift to second gear will the access port keep the rpms at 5200? or after you launch it reverts back to normal? i have a 2005 sti and i was wondering how do you know what rpms to launch it at? will the car take off differently?
It only hold the rpm when you are engaging launch control. Otherwise it drives like normal.
@@Autofreakgarage awesome appreciate it and love the video
@@JTRshuffleboy super late reply but just a bit more detail. The LC setting on the Accessport has a value in the tune for both clutch position and vehicle speed. So the rpm limiter only applies when both values are met. For example, if the speed is set to 5mph, then as soon as the wheel speed sensors read beyond 5mph, LC will never activate, same applies to you pressing on the gas when the clutch is not engaged so it will never limit at idle in neutral or when rolling at speed unless you mess with that stuff when custom tuning.
what wheels are those??
Enkei rs05rr
Auto + or auto -?
I just leave it in auto
Wait, so TRAC mode is actually traction control on??
No. It turns the traction control down a bit so it allows the car to slip a bit. But it will still kick in if it needs to.
Any idea of RPM range to set launch control on the 15 WRX? Boost comes on a lot earlier like 2500-3k
I don't have experience with the FA motor to know what works best. Most likely you'll want to be up in the power band either way because anything lower you'll just bog once it hooks. I wouldn't go below 4,500.
Send it at 5200 lmfao I’ve done it a ton and I’m still going strong. *still stock trans/clutch 65k miles*
@@wrxhatchback4762 Hey man I just hit 74k and my stock clutch is already toast or almost toast. New ACT clutch coming in soon!
I have a 2018 WRX stock motor currently DYNO turned 340 HP and 340 Foot lbs of torque to the wheels. I bought my car with 11,000 miles on it. I launched it two times, over several months, after my first DYNO tune when I was only at 299 HP and 316 foot lbs of torque to the wheels. On the third time I blew up my transmission. $4000 bill to fix it. The lesson here gentlemen is to recognize that you have to pay to play. Good luck! This expensive lesson stuck, I’ve yet to launch my car since.
@@wrxhatchback4762 with stock wrx transmission?
Nice car
NJ baby
check your tire pressure bruh
Don’t run tpms. Bruh.
open roads...ie....Mexico
Do it at your own risk lol
Awww rompi mi clutch
Awesome video
Really cool video
You don’t slip the clutch at all?
No need to
@@Autofreakgarage doesn’t that mean the drivetrain takes the brunt of the force tho?
what wheels are those ?
