The answer is simple ..... Get your colours done which will give you the best colours that make you look fabulous. Then, ask your analyst about some of your favourite items (take your items with you which can help!). I love both fuchsia and bright orange ..... Fuchsia looks fab but honestly I look like I haven't slept in days with orange. My analyst was fabulous ..... Found me the best colour of orange for me, and was able to help me with a couple of navy and soft whites to wear near the face so I could wear the orange. Definitely the style is far more important than colour though!!

Having auburn hair most of my life I gravitated to earth colors and neutrals which I loved. So now I’m 84 and am now in the process of embracing my gray hair. I realize now that
the warm colors I used to wear do not flatter me at all. I am slowly changing to more jewel tones, blues, greens, magenta and black and white. I am really starting to like my new look.

Obviously one can wear whatever they want. Having had my colors done Years ago, I found that it’s more than just the color. It’s how you wear that color. Most colorist today will also give styling advise which is very helpful.
I have pretty much stuck with my “colors” and always feel put together. When I’ve tried to venture outside of those colors; like wearing colors more suited to a winter, I don’t feel as good in them. When I’ve purchased something and it sits in my closet and I don’t choose to wear it, usually I discover it’s the color I don’t really feel good wearing. While I admire it on someone else, I don’t like it on me.

Despite your fabulous style, the openness with which you approached your colour consultation was so humble and elegant. Black, navy, and some of those shades of yellow look stunning..With the colour protocol, isn't it the colours closest to the wearer's face that matter. Hence why your yellow suit with colourful Pucci headscarf looks divine. With this video, I covered over your nany jumper to see the sole effect of the soft pink shirt. It was okay, but the navy makes the outfit pop. Your innate sense of that and willingness to wear colour were already inspirational. Look forward to seeing where you take it next ♡

With the colour charts, it is about being very specific about the tones and shades of each colour that is suggested for you. It is not simply yellow or orange, it is the very specific shades. Lemon yellows are for cooler toned complexions and warm yellows for warmer skin. Similarly for all the colours. It’s all in the details.

I have had my color analysis done a few times. Usually I fall into a winter category. I use it as a basic guide, but not even my hair color falls into my colour analysis results right now. I think it can be a good foundation to work with, but by no means is it a hard and fast rule. Also, considering that Ive had my analysis done multiple times by different establishments and they haven't all arrived at the same conclusion, I take the entire thing with a grain of salt.

I am trained in doing color analysis for over 20 yrs. I agree 💯👍 with not getting married to your "season". I am a classic Winter. Just a key thing to keep in mind... whatever is closest to your face makes the biggest impact. Translation, wear an "off color season" and drape a "your color season" with a scarf, jewelry, or earrings from your palette. Mix spring with autumn, winter with summer. They fall into the same color families. Again, keep your season closest to your face. Gold jewelry is spring and autumn/Silver is summer and winter.
Then last of all, wear anything you want!!! Have fun with it all. 🤗

I loved the chartreuse dress on you - modern Marilyn Monroe! And strangely enough, the counterpoint of your hair color and style makes the whole look pop! Artists respond viscerally to colors - whether they want to wear them or look at them. Don't ever close yourself into some box of what women are "supposed to wear" by season. Wear what makes you feel good - moods change and you may need that yellow lift from time to time.

The color analyst I worked with showed me the colors that “make me “sparkle,” but she also always says, “Wear what you love.” Her system breaks it down to more than 4. I’m a true summer. I know those colors make me shine and help with my dark circles and so forth, so I like to wear them. Beautiful people like you can get away with a lot more because you rarely look bad. I’ve been introducing the new colors into my closet, blending them into what used to be mostly olive and moss. As you’ve pointed out, there is no need to toss everything out and start over. A fun and insightful thing to do.

I had tried to veer away from the fuscias and reds because I thought it was more "classy" to dress in beige. I look horrible in beige. This session actually freed me to be myself. I still have an orange blouse and a bright yellow top I wear from time to time. But going forward, I will have a helpful guideline. I highly recommend getting your colours done.

I had my colors done about 35 years ago. It was one of the best things I ever did! I wasn’t given a nice booklet with the colors but just fabric swatches. After awhile you just know. You don’t even have to look. The hardest thing I had trouble with, color wise, was distinguishing between cream from beige. Beige has some gray in it. You CAN wear ANYTHING but wear what’s your best color closest to your face - so everything will look great. Like wear black, even though you shouldn’t, but wear a scarf or necklace that’s in your best color. It really does make a difference. If I wear the wrong color near my face, it shows every line and blemish I’ve ever had - but when I wear the right colors, my face lights up and I look prettier. I’m a Fall, but an Indian Summer Fall which is a bit different. The gal who did my colors told me if I stuck to these colors, eventually my wardrobe would be much more pulled together. She was right. It also saves time if you want to shop in your colors. I think you can get away with wearing anything when you’re young but as you age, if you want your best face, think about wearing “your”colors. Good luck everyone!!!

Thank you Nikol! I also went to a local stylist for House of Colour, and low and behold found I was actually a Summer after years of thinking I was an Autumn. The reason I went to do this after 30 + years as an Autumn, was that I was drawn to colors not necessarily in my palette.
Like you, I did not just purge all of my "non-season" colors, but instead, started making changes to what I wore near my face, and gradually was able to keep some of the Autumn staples and release others from my wardrobe. Many thanks for doing this video - I absolutely love it!

The problem I have with the color thing is trying to find clothes in my colors. It's very hard. It seems most clothing comes in black, white, beige and ivory. Color trends are always determined by the annual Milan, Paris, NY fashion shows. Buy what you like & looks good on your silhouette, with your complexion, hair/eye color. If you buy every season, then you'll have a variety to choose from even when the colors you like aren't trendy. It's called building a wardrobe -- rotate your color palette; be adventurous & open-minded; experiment with colors/styles. Remember to include the classics: blazers (especially navy, grey, black, herringbone, beige/brown); footwear (pumps, boots, sandals, sneakers); slacks (denim in black, white, blue; wool, cotton, corduroy pants) dresses & skirts & classic silk blouses or cashmere/wool/cotton sweaters (turtleneck, crew neck, mock turtleneck, cardigan); handbags; accessories (scarves, belts, jewelry); makeup -- yes, makeup is an accessory. Watch Nikol's videos! She is always on trend!!

White made me look ill - but off-white/cream looks great. Burgundy is not my color - but warm-reds get compliments and makes my skin pop. My Mother is a 'winter' - black hair & can wear black, white, darker reds, etc. My sister is an Autumn - light brown hair and fair, and I am a spring, blonde and fair. There are SOME dresses and combos I still love and wear - even if not precisely within my 'color wheel'...I must admit though, that when the color of clothing works with your hair/skin - you can SEE it's the right color for you! :-)

It was a gift to myself, to celebrate my success with deep emotional healing by creating an exterior presence that matched my newly acquired inner beauty. That analysis gave me a huge burst of lasting self esteem and confidence, and has guided my choices in color and style ever since. I intuitively know that what I purchase will effortlessly blend with my wardrobe at home. I am 65% rich (autumn by the House of Color category), 20% soft (probably summer) and 15% animated (probably spring). My style is 60% classic and 40% natural. When I asked what I should do if I wanted to wear something that did not agree with my analysis, the artistic director said to smile radiantly.

I had my colors done 30 (or so) years ago by a Canadian company called Seasons. Found out I’m a “vivid winter”, and I was SURE you’d be the same! Just goes to show it’s not always easy to guess what someone’s “best pallet” may be! And I agree… I think you obviously have a more refined understanding & sense of what styles and colors you can pull off, and that gives you a better idea of how far you can push those guidelines of color. And you do that so beautifully!

Hi Nikol, I had my colours done in the 80's when it was first fashionable. I'm winter. I don't think I even have my swatches any more as the way to look at what suits me has become part of me. I haven't worn cream since then except in a floral, where the other colours are in my palette.
I think how you "get away with it" so well is your wonderful ability with makeup. You can give yourself a really warming or cooling look to counterbalance the colour that isn't your best shade. Thanks for the encouragement!

I had my colors done in the early 90's...time for a redo with my silver hair, lol! Nicole, I love how you are honest and humble, very willing to admit how your experiences change your viewpoint! We Silver women (and aging women in general) are so often discounted or talked down to when we share our own life experiences, such as the changes in hair when we go natural. Thank you for sharing that you now can understand the challenges of silver hair, thinning hair through stress and/or hormonal changes, etc. As well as being proactive and sharing what you have discovered and found improvements with. Just one of the many things that keeps me coming back to your channel. ❤

I am 77 and want to get on with this decision. Plus I seen your beautiful mother and you mentioned her thin hair. I look at your hair and it’s such a beautiful head of hair. It’s my want to have ,wrong bad me. I would settle for anything better than fine and thin. I always like to look nice and feel well put together when I go out. I have been watching your videos for at least two years, and I have loved everything I have seen you wear, both in regard to clothing and makeup colors. You are gorgeous! Back in the 1980's, I read a book about seasonal color, and after taking the quiz, I thought I was a Winter. Many years later, I took a quiz online, and the computer results said I was a Spring. I'm 76 years old now, and I've stopped worrying about a color match. Apparently I have a neutral skin tone, neither cool nor warm, and I like how I look in either gold or silver jewelry. (Gold supposedly looks better on warm toned skin, silver on cool.) Thank you for all of your wonderful videos!

I think that the actual season of the year matters too…like coral is a summer season color that I wouldn’t necessarily wear at other times. Vice versa with deep magenta, for example. Plus, if you’re tan or not, I think that makes a difference as well. Like with all rules or guidelines-I think you need to know them, understand them. Then, you can start push or break them!

I think it's great that you went and had this consultation done. As a woman I feel it's important to know what works best for us, but also like you, I wear whatever colors I want to or else I would be so bored. I wear my "right" colors for times when I just have to look my absolute best and don't want to think about it. I just get dressed and apply the make up that works for me and can not worry about my look. I do not know if I a a winter or summer or how many seasons color palettes there are for this process, but I just know since I was young when people would compliment me on a certain color I was wearing, I would keep that in the back of my mind for future. When someone tells you that you look good in something, usually they are not lying and mean it.

I think there are some people who are true seasons, but I think many of us aren’t. I look good in some winters ( not all) and some falls(not all). I don’t look good in any yellows, but have a couple because it such a happy color and makes me happy. Besides, it hard enough to find clothes that fit well, flattering, affordable, quality, look good, and in a color wheel color I’m suppose to wear.

Before going silver, I had very dark brunette hair; blue eyes, pink skin. I was then a definite winter. Now that I'm silver, I am often drawn to things like Periwinnkle, pure white; no off-whites that just make me look washed out. But I can also go to more summery shades. It's a feeling I get when I see the 'right' color that I'm drawn to. I should wear navy instead of black at this point (I am 74 and a half) but I still love my black.

I had my colours analyzed using computer matching, probably 25 years ago, by Color Alliance. I was told that I am a Contrasting Cerulian Autumn. The colors still work for me, even though my colours have softened with age. I am surprised that you turned out to be a Summer but, now that I've seen it, I can't unsee it. You look so natural, young, and fresh in the new makeup and softer, cooler colours. Like you, I also deviate at will to wear what I want (eg. white in summer, when I have a tan). But overall, it is useful information, I have found.

Thank you so much for this video. I started shedding massive amounts of hair in September/October after a very stressful summer. My hair was 2/3 down my back which makes the hair in my hand and on the shower floor that much scarier. I've since had it cut so it's now at my bra strap which is shockingly "short" for me. I was looking at Nutrafol and considering it but wasn't sure if I should pull the trigger to spend the money. Your video is so timely for me; it brought me to tears. Hi Nikol,
I had my colors done years ago. I have followed them in my wardrobe. I am a “Winter.” I intuitively knew what looked best on me and it was interesting to discover that I was right.
Still doing that; however, I occasionally gravitate toward something I really like that is not in the colors samples I received and will combine it with a scarf or other item. Mostly I wear jewel tones, and yes my hair is silver with some dark brown/black underneath.
It was a good experience that lives on !

I would have guessed you were a winter because you look so good in bold colors. I have had my colors done 3 time. Every time I come up as a Spring. I have very dark brown eyes which is unusual for a spring. I can cross over into fall colors as long as they aren’t too muddy. If I do buy something out of my pallet it seems to sit in my closet. All of summer’s colors simply wash me out.
It is such a good thing to give all of us a road map for choosing our makeup and clothes. But certainly isn’t cast in stone.

I went to Linzy a little over a year ago, and did not react well when she told me I was an autumn. My closet was 90% summer, because that’s what I thought I was. However, she managed to convince me to keep with it and I’m so glad she did! At first, I was very reluctant, but I tried an experiment: I selected 8 tops from my closet, tops that I had loved and worn many times, but not in “my colours”. I then photographed myself in each of those tops, plus 2 others that I had from the autumn palette, 10 tops in total. I could not believe what I was seeing. The tops in the summer colours washed me out compared to the autumn ones. How had I never seen this before?!! Once I actually saw it for myself, there was no going back. I still have some black in my closet (well, you have to, don’t you?), but almost 80% of my clothes are now autumnal and I love that. They complement each other, so putting an outfit together is actually enjoyable now. I’m wearing colours I would never, ever have tried before, and yet they complement me so well that they actually make my skin look like its glowing. I finally feel confident when I’m shopping for new clothes, and that is exactly what I was hoping to get from this experience.

Good morning from the UK Nikol and thank you for your video 😊. I had my colours done many years ago - gosh probably 35 now I come to think about it! I was a 'career' girl in my mid-twenties and for me colour analysis was the best money I ever spent. I wore quite expensive clothes to work and so it saved me so much money to buy things that I knew suited me and would co-ordinate with the rest of my wardrobe.
Then over the years I have had times when I have had very little money to spend on me as a single parent, so just having a few good charity shop buys in the right colour and style has kept me sane! You are in the position to have access to an expansive wardrobe and lots of make-up choices and I think you look fabulous in EVERYTHING, but for people not in the beauty and fashion industry (and for those of us with less confidence), sticking to your pallette is a great way to save money and time, while looking your best. ❤
