- Discover Groningen in the north of The Netherlands. A city with a large student population and a reputation as the county's cycle city. Do drop by and leave us a comment below, we'll always take time to reply.
What to see in 1 day - We start our peaceful early morning Groningen city tour in the neo-gothic/renaisaance lobby of the Groningen Central Station. Situated opposite the Groninger Museum and on the Zuiderhaven canal, the station is also the site of the Peerd van Ome Loeks statue.
In this slow tv 4k walking tour, we follow the Zuiderhaven canal along Stationsweg before crossing the tiny Sluisbrug to take us along Sluiskade with it's yachts and fine views across the harbour.
We pass Museumbrug and turn into Astraat / Brugstraat, catching some of the gorgeous canalside bars, cafes and restaurants to see Akerkhof, site of many fine shops and the imposing Aa-Kerk (church.) We return the way we came and follow the canal along Hooge Der A with it's coloured moored houseboats before joining the Nooderhaven. We finish our walk on a bridge (Kijk in Het Jatbrug) with a fine view view all the way down the canal towards Plantsoenbrug and the Noorderplantsoen park.

Ah lovely. My favourite city in the Netherlands, there's so much to it. It's always such a happy experience to visit. Good to take this virtual walk whenever I miss it.
A lovely city for sure.
Groningen is definitely on my bucket list 😍🥰
Hi there Okay Karz, Glad you enjoyed it! I do agree, it's certainly one of our favourite cities and we'd very much like to return, it's more beautiful than you could dream of and I do have another one of Groningen here if you'd like another wander to get you in the mood. Thanks for dropping by.
what a peaceful and picturesque city. Thanks for showing.
Morning RW, yes it really is. I'd recommend a visit if you ever get a chance. All the best to you.
My parents and forefathers came from Groningen. They emigrated to Australia. I have been back several times but not since 1990. I note many changes in front of the station. Great memories.
How interesting TL, it's certainly a wonderful place and very liveable. I think you'll find the changes are all pretty good ones. Hope you get to revisit sometime. If not, we have another Groningen video here, so you can take a virtual visit (and there's more to add soon). Hope you enjoy them?
good afternoon dear friend it's very beautiful ♥️
Thank you very much TJ, we certainly love the town too!
Left 40 years ago. lot has changed. Need to revisit...
I feel the same here, would love to revisit, it's such a wonderfully considered place!
I was born in the city of groningen it will always have a special place in my heart. including the rest of the province
I can quite see why D, I feel the same.
Wow Netherlands! Never been there but your clips are pulling me to visit the place. so clean and green and really quiet place i love it!
Ah do go if you have the opportunity zz, you won't be disappointed. It really is as you describe in the main. It's certainly one of our favourite countries in the world and very special. Good to be in contact with you. All the best.
its not that quiet as the clip is showing, i am living in Groningen, and beleve me this is a sunday morning haha
What a wonderfully peaceful experience, thank you for capturing it.
You're most welcome.
Another great video. Thank you so much for taking your time and putting so much effort to entertain and relax us. I know how much work goes in making videos.
You're really welcome A. It's good to be in touch and share content with people such as yourself, it makes it all worthwhile for that doesn't it?
Agree! It's definitely a commitment. Thanks for sharing the walk!
You're welcome too @@walkingtours3885, I know we all put a lot of commitment into our video's. It's good to be in contact and to share.
Groningen! I live near Haarlem but I still miss Groningen. I studied and lived there until I left in 1990. Nice to see my house at the Hoge der Aa.
Thanks for visiting Gerda, You're so very welcome, pleased to bring back happy memories of Groningen (and to see your old house). It's a lovely city (as is Haarlem) I can see how you must miss it. I have a couple more of Groningen here if it's helpful? all the best to you.
What a lovely looking city, and nice to see the different boats in the canal - thanks for showing us around on such a lovely day :)
Thanks WW, yes it's our favourite place in the Netherlands. A little mini Amsterdam in some ways. I'd recommend it if you have the chance to visit.
Clean and beautiful city. Hope you have enjoyed walking tour. Thanks for sharing 🙏😎🇮🇳
Thank you DW, glad you enjoyed it. Yes it's a wonderfully organised and happy city it seems to me.
Awesome weather! Loved Haarlem when I visited Holland
Yes we love Haarlem too SW, in fact we have a walk from there to soon go up. The weather was remarkable that weekend. In fact the only time we've not been rained upon (in what was our 6th visit).
Thank you super walking
Thank you, so pleased you liked it.
I lived & left the city of Groningen in the 1960's & now live in in the city of Melbourne (5 million people) Australia, different life style, BUT deep in my heart I still miss the city of Groningen, watch your Living Walks on UA-cam about the city of Groningen progress AND of course after Groningen, Melbourne is my second favorite city. Keep up the good work with your Living Walks channel.
Ah it's a special place isn't it Ronald, I can understand it staying in your heart. Thank you for your comment it's interesting to hear.
Nice work thanks for uploading 60fps Videos carry on
You're really welcome AMA, thanks for taking the time to let us know.
Otra ciudad con mucha historia, espero volver pronto para 🇳🇱 y conocerlo.
Siento lo mismo y me encantaría volver a mi ciudad holandesa favorita.
Lovely video!
Thanks, kind of you to say so Whiskytips. We love Groningen and are happy to show it to the world.
@@LivingWalks Great town indeed and great to walk in as well ;-)
I enjoyed the walking tour. Thank you! I’m originally from Groningen(DeWijert) but residing now in western Canada 🇨🇦.
Hope we helped to bring back happy memories of Groningen. We certainly love it. We do have another video here of the city if it grabs you? and will be adding more shortly if you care to free subscribe? Hope you're enjoying life in Canada?
Living Walks Thanks! It did bring back happy memories. I also enjoyed it without music as it makes the experience more real and made me almost feel like it was me walking there. 😊 You are doing a great job with your channel. I have subbed to your channel and love to see more. As for Canada, it’s totally different from the Netherlands but that is what I wanted. I love the mountains and wilderness areas and am an avid hiker and nature photographer. As soon as I know what I’m doing I will add video to that. Greetings from BC, Canada 🇨🇦 😊💗
It makes us happy to hear that Arianna and we're glad you feel the experience is helped by the lack of music. Receiving messages such as yours makes it all worthwhile. Glad to hear you're enjoying Canadian life. We look forward to seeing that video. All the best to you.
Living Walks Thank you! A first attempt: ua-cam.com/video/8AWoCJiYp3Q/v-deo.html Not so good, I know. How can I minimize the walking motion on my camera? My camera seems to stabilize object movements but not the movement created by my walking. Thanks! 😊
Haha I was born in the nursery at the monumental building across the canal at 2.30 min.😀
And what a lovely city to be born into, one of our favourites!
great video :)
Thanks a lot YTW.
Let us know your thoughts and experiences of Groningen, and where you would like to walk with us next?
Great video. I live here.
Ah, how fortunate you are. We enjoy our regular visits very much and will be back this summer to film more. It's a beautiful city isn't it?
Yes, of is a great City. ( sorry, bad engels)
Better than my Dutch Jan!
I was sent by atomic shrimp. Love these videos.
Thank you for dropping by Roberto. Good to connect with you.

Hello! Are you able to monetize this video on UA-cam? I'm planning do the same kind of video in country, just curious. Nice video btw.
Hi Ruben, at the moment we're not really focusing on any monetization, just enjoying getting lots of content out and just seeing where it goes. Perhaps in the future who knows? Best of luck with your channel, look forward to seeing more from you.
Wow, amazing footage!
By the way.. our UA-cam-videos are mostly recorded in Groningen :)
Thanks SSN, I'll take a look. I'm interested in anything that happens in that incredible little city. Do you live there? You're very fortunate if so. We visit 2 or 3 times a year and especially love Noorderzon.
@@LivingWalks Noorderzon indeed, very welcome! I like your channel, because i don't like to travel a lot and so i can see a lot of nice places without getting out of my town... ;)
Yes we live there @@LivingWalks! :)
I think if I lived in Groningen I'd be happy not to travel too much. We're glad to be virtually traveling along with you.
Good to link up with you SSN. We'll probably pass each other at Noorderzon this year. We'll be the ones walking through with a gimbal and gopro, like zombies I expect ;)
What time of day was this filmed? I've never seen the Brugstraat that empty in the daylight.
Umm, I believe it was a Sunday morning. We wondered why it was so quiet, too?
@@LivingWalks I thought it was a Monday morning during a school holiday perhaps, cause 11 o clock according to the A-church and the AH (supermarket) at Brugstraat was open and on Sunday they open at 12.
Great walks b.t.w. loved to watch them when i worked in an other country but happy to be able to take the walks myself again.
So nice to hear from you, it could have been a Monday morning, you have me wondering now? Anyway very pleased to bring these walks to you, especially of the lovely Groningen.
Did you go on Sunday morning? It's so quiet.
Usually there are much more people around and many more open shops, bars and restaurants.
Hi there Roger, yes it was a Sunday morning and an exceptionally quiet one. We love Groningen busy or quiet and miss having not visited for a few months, as it's one of our favourite cities anywhere. Are you from there?
Has a baroque feel to it the station
Yes it's really quite magnificent isn't it HKW. Good to be in contact with you.
My Hometown
@Crafts to Relax We allways visit Noorderzon, its 10 minutes on my bike to get there...Late in the evening I can hear the music on my balcony..
That sounds just lovely Katja. How lucky you are to live there. There's another walk here too if you fancy it? All the best to you. ua-cam.com/video/gazxi40k16A/v-deo.html
When was it filmed?
Hi 82ku, it was filmed last year.
@@LivingWalks do you remember the exact date?
20:30 Maybe next time you can go right and then left at that crossing instead of straight ahead hehehe :P
Ha maybe so IDDB.
Atomic shrimp sent me here😄
Ah glad you dropped by PB, and thanks to Atomic shrimp!
Was that "Lucky" Lord Lucan ?
Oh ha ha Phil, at what time did you spot him?
@@LivingWalksHa - he was peddling very fast - thanks for all your uploads - they are soothing and untroubled treats.
Ah you're most welcome Phil, no wonder 'ol lucky was peddling so fast, perhaps he was afraid we'd captured him after all this time! ;)
My first house was in Noorderhaven
Hope this brought back happy memories of the city for you?
Grunn
?
@@LivingWalks Grunn. That's dialect for Groningen. The city itself is also referred too as "Stad" opposed to the province of Groningen (or Grunn) :-)
