While we say both "eierbal" and "eierbol" in this video, it *is* "eierbal" (like bitterbal). We just had it spelled incorrectly in our notes!
Anyway... have y'all tried an eierbal before? If not, would you try it?

Once. And that was, eh, enough. Probably it would work with kolibrie eggs... But I really think the breadcrumbs would the star of the 'dish', whereas the bitterbal has not 'star' parts in it. 😊

I think the nice thing about Groningen is that there is so little around it. It's the single big city in the entire North so it's got this concentration of big city things and young people from a wide area in a relatively small and very compact city.

I love Groningen. It's my favourite place to spend a day. There's always something interesting to see or do. If you ever visit again, try Wolter's Kruidenier in Oude Boteringestraat (close to the market square). It's a little shop that sells a lot of regional products (like Knol's Groninger koek).

The 11th one. 11 is het zottengetal (of gekkengetal). Don't know if that's applicable for Groningen. It has been a long time since I was in Groningen, but I always enjoyed it very much. There always used to be a good amount of German students in Groningen as well, and it's far enough away from the Randstad to be it's own thing. Up to the last one :o).

De uitspraak van de Nederlandse woorden is steeds beter! De NG in Groningen is the same sound as the NG in Wrong, so that G has another sound than the first G, this first one is the same as in Goedemorgen, and you say that right ❤️Hil

    • @dutchdykefinger
      @dutchdykefinger 9 місяців тому +2

yes, the second G is like the ending G sound, also found in the Dutch words "ding" (thing), "zing" (sing), and "ving" (caught).
and as you can see, there's already 2 in there that share the same ending with their English counterparts
i guess the phrase "mensen die dingen zingen in Groningen" (People who sing things in Groningen) is a pretty good one for training too just following up the sounds in short intervals from one another
[edit: tangent about pronuncuation from here on]
so yeah, English speakers already have that sound in their arsenal, although they may sit on the "nguh" sound of the G in the end more (seems especially true for British English speakers that really sing out the end because of non-rhoticity being the norm and that also having an effect on other letters)
Dutch speakers don't really sing out the end of words like most Anglo speakers do anyway, when the word is done, it is done, so it's par for the course we don't really sit on it that one either, usually easier for Yanks to pick up (Americans from the northeast of the USA, because of their rhoticity and rapid-fire way of speaking)
our alternating accents every odd syllable works for them too, we speak kind of like a musical rhytmic pulse that has a strong every first and the 2nd is a weaker
similarly, as a Dutch speaker, i can sound like an American way more convincingly than i can sound like a British English speaker,
certainly more convincing than the average British English speaker even, because they already speak english and their habits are more set in stone speaking the same language, most brits are shit at sounding like an american, the Dutch are more like yankees in their way of speaking english lol
now of course i'm speaking as a randstad Dutch speaker where it's fast and rhythmic and we don't sing anything out on the end,
you can't even really hear whether something is one or a double vowel by the length of it, but there are subtle differences in pronouncing them differently with tonality (double vowel goes up more in pitch than a single) or rhythmic changes, and we have very strong attacks on our syllables to make the faster speed still distinguishable, very hash sounds that make a V sound like an F and a Z like an S to people that don't really know the subtleties, and ofcourse we have the hard guttural G/CH much like the scots do theirs.
not quite all the way Amsterdam accent, where that phenomenon is very exaggerated, but there's some of those markers hidden in there in most randstad accents, the harsh sounds are to support the faster pace of talking and not turning it into slurry
it lends itself pretty well for rap music because it's so rat-tat-tat in its phrasing and attack.
but your mileage may vary depending on region

To up that one. The province of Groningen has three cities officially. Winschoten is the youngest of those. We will celebrate the fact that it got it's city rights 200 years ago in 2025. But to get back into the matter of church towers. The city of Winschoten has a free standing tower on his main church, which is known as the Marktpleinkerk, or Market Square church. That tower is lower than the Martini tower, but almost shares its nickname. It is called the Olle Witte, or Old White.

Luckily the prettiest street is a proper street now (I'm in favour of legalizing prostitution, but still don't like it). I lived next to this one for years, it's quite avoidable. The langgraf ( long grave) is a bit further away. I spent part of youth weekends and holidays in Emmen. My grandmother lived there. You probably will like the kibbekoele recreation lake in nearby sleen. I also worked a few year in Emmen while living in Oldenzaal. Crossing the German gap between Overijssel en Drenthe daily. The Oldenzaal carnaval is worth a visit.
