I am a Japanese. I am pleased to see the movie of Subaru 360 van which I have not seen even in Japan. The car was used by my grandfather at work. Thank you for posting a video that reminded me of my fond memories with my grandfather.
Good engine sound! You can see "Kei mini van"(They are 660cc or 550cc) a lot in Japan. It was 360cc in olden times. This Subaru is an ancestor of those. Awesome!
Cute! I had 2 Subaru 360 sedans when I was younger, started to restore them, but this guy a friend of mine knew wanted to buy both--I didn't have the time to restore them anyway, and he had BOTH running great in a week! I love anything 2 stroke, and these are no excption! BTW--the best bike I ever owned was a '74 Suzuki GT-550! That little triple would just SING--and fly too! Fast as a 1992 Kawie ZX-6 easily! Nice little bike!
I love tiny, old, clattery cars like this. They're a lot of fun to drive and you're doing everyone a favor because they're also fun to see and get a good laugh at. Nice work.
I have owned several Subaru 360's sedans and cans, I drove them all over San Diego freeways and up in Orange county. I drove one van 35 miles each way to work and it always did great. Drove a sedan from San Diego to Portland Oregon and it did great, a fun trip. I bought a new sedan in 1970 and I was hooked. These are great.
When we were kids my Mom drove a 1969 Toyota Corolla and we would embarrass her by making it appear that us three boys would be pedaling when we went up hill
I'm Japanese too. I'm glad to be able to watch the movie of Subaru 360 van which was been at my house. This car was used by my dad's work and family travel to here and there. I know that my father's favorite and I remember my memories to this car clearly. Thank you for uploading the video.👍 God bless you and your family.
I had one, I loved it. A 350cc engine! I came out of work one day a bunch of kids had knocked it over on its side and were trying to flip it upside down completely when they saw me running at them. They basically destroyed my little van.
Cute. Those 360 engines are neat units. About 20yrs ago I worked in a motorcycle shop, a customer bought in a homemade single-seater gokart that was powered with this same engine. Man it could fly! I've never seen the van model before, but there's still one person in my town (in New Zealand) that drives the tiny 2-door car model. Tiny rare cars like this are a real treat to see.
Chris have you ever heard of the Malibu Grand Prix? If not, basically it was a franchise of go-kart tracks mainly on the west coast. It was founded by Malcom Bricklin. Funny thing is the first cars used were Suburu 360 vans with the van bodies removed and fiberglass racecar bodies attached. They were called Fastrack and Fastrack II and are very rare today! I wonder if that customer had an actual Fastrack?
Had one for a couple of years . On a freeway run , easily drafting a big rig , the engine violently seized ! A nice young man towed me off the freeway WITH AN EXTENSION CORD !
A relative of mine in CA had one of these. White w/red interior. Autolube oil system for the engine. And "air conditioning" in the front! ;-) It got A LOT of looks on the road in the 70's. Only cost less than $5.00 to fill it up at the station. LOL.
The runway comment made me laugh. I just imported a Nissan PAO. I have to get a really good running start every time when I see a hill coming up and I have two cylinders and about 400cc's more than you. Your car is in great shape, I guess that's why that guy thought it was new haha
I really enjoyed your video. I loved the old VW buses and had 3 and I saw one of these Subaru's at a lot....it was 1970 +/- and went to check it out. Took my brother in law with me and I remember us both getting in the car at the same time and when we shut the doors...our shoulders bumped. I don't know why I didn't get it then but I'd get it in a second now. Anyway... nifty bus!
One of my cousins had the truck version of this, back in the mid 70's. Talk about NO leg room. I sat in that truck with my knees under my chin the whole time!
I need one of those in my life RIGHT NOW! TOO COOL! I was a year old when it was built. It's in far better condition than I am! Love it and I salute you Sir!
I drove one round trip from SF to St. Louis in the mid- 70's with my dog Jack. I put a bed in the back and slept with my feet sticking out the back end. Those were the days!
Hi omg your video is way funny I had to get my mom and show her we both lough so hard because all you note you made lol we did same growing up we had one from 1977 - 83 then dad sold it this was first car lol to learn how to drive in dad thought it would be safe for me. he was funny........ wish we still had it .... anyway thanks for taken me and mom back to some fun times
Yo! That was rhino records at 6:06 I love that place. I looked this video up kuz I found a 84 on offer up for about 6k and if I had the money I would get it sadly I don’t. Awesome lil micro bus 👍
Had a coworker years ago that drove a Subaru 360. Thought it made the most God-awful noise at the time but now I get it. It was cheap and reliable for her suburban LA commute.
That is such a neat little van, We don't have anything cool like micro cars here in Michigan been looking to restore or buy something like them here but no luck so far. Thanks for showing.
I had a 1971 Corolla wagon with a 1200cc 4stroke, it was high compression with a progressive 2bbl carb, fun but still underpowered. I wish I still had it.
Great vid! Also was surprised to see Claremont featured. My friend lives there and was thinking"Hey! That looks like Claremont" Sure enuff it was. Thanks for posting.
Dude, he said the top speed on level ground was 60mph and if you know anything about science the vehicle has to travel 88mph and needs to be struck by lightening roughly 1.21 gigawatts of electricity in order to power the flux capacitor......
with air cooled RR layout like 911, It was called half cynically Farmland (not Ferdinand) Porsche in Japan. It was a great little work horse which I used to carry hay and farm supplies. I can not believe that you did Freeway with 360cc.
Loved it. Wonderful video of an often-missed Japanese car. I'm a Subaru fan for live, but I don't think I'd sacrifice my Forester for this. Still and all, great tongue-in-cheek humor and loads of fun.
I remember it was an air cooled two cycle. Whether it was a boxer never occurred to me. All I did was clean the gas tank and oil reservoir and hunted down a NOS coil which wasn't easy to source at the time. (pre internet). Does yours have the hight adjustable suspension? Did you ever have a chance to speak with Rev. Ed Parsil? He knew everything about 360's and coached me into getting it tuned up right. I ended up selling it to the Subaru dealership in Medford Oregon for display on their sales floor. Who knows it might still be there. After that I got into BMW Isetta's, 2CV'S, NSU's, a '53 Messerscmitt KR175 all before they git so Godly expensive. Bang for the buck the 360 was the best fun plus it was to a degree somewhat practical going on grocery runs. It was amazing how you could carry 4 adults in reasonable comfort in that thing. It was kind of a dog on steep hills in my old neighborhood but it always made it up eventually.
+Big MITTY, Nice Elise you've got there. Years ago I had a Europa big valve and an Esprit S2. I also wanted an Elise but the suspension is too stiff and wreaks havoc with my sciatic nerve so I ended up with a Cayman which I can tolerate. I love mid engine sports cars!
1971- Santa Barbara- A 360 pick up pulled in to a Chevron Station and the mechanic yelled " How many miles before you have to change the rubber bands in that thing?" The driver was a friend of his and they both laughed. The good 'ol days.....

Ola amiguinho Japonês, tudo bem com voce ? Um abraço do Brasil para o Japão amo vocês .

I love small cars , and imagine adding a turbo to this, this would be the ultimate ride for travelling across the country
If you want to do 35mph😂
OMG. This is very rare in japan!
One THE BEST candidates for DIY electric motor works. thank you for sharing this. I start hunting for one.
I have owned several Subaru 360's sedans and cans, I drove them all over San Diego freeways and up in Orange county. I drove one van 35 miles each way to work and it always did great. My father-in-law had one of these. My wife swears that her family had to get out of the Subie and walk to let it get up the hill near their house.
Entirely plausible.
So he did not get the 'for extra charge' pedal assist? They mounted bicycle pedals in the passenger areas to add power to the engine....
That's a great idea actually.
When we were kids my Mom drove a 1969 Toyota Corolla and we would embarrass her by making it appear that us three boys would be pedaling when we went up hill

How can we be sure that the gopro camera and its boom weren't too much added weight? The Subaru could have tipped over. :o)
lol...the things not that light!
Now that is a badass little ride! Love the fight club soundtrack.
I had one, I loved it. A 350cc engine! I came out of work one day a bunch of kids had knocked it over on its side and were trying to flip it upside down completely when they saw me running at them. They basically destroyed my little van.
スバルは50年越えても良く走る素晴らしいですこんなに強い360CCスバルの技術や品質は最高に良いです
嬉しいです
That is so cute it hurts. I believe this is my final pick of a dream car !
I bet that van would fit inside my van.
I bet that van would fit inside my closet.
Wow, what a selfie MOP)))
Daybot

Yo dawg, I heard how much you like vans, so I put a van inside yo van!
metalmoto 😄

Oh! Best 'car video' ever. Love the 360!
Very very cute little van...I want one!!! Loyal Subaru lover...keep her..she's awesome....
Love this! And you chose the perfect music for the ride along. Thanks for this one.
Truly iconic vehicle. IMO more so than the actual "bus" ;)
A relative of mine in CA had one of these. White w/red interior. Autolube oil system for the engine. And "air conditioning" in the front! ;-) It got A LOT of looks on the road in the 70's. Only cost less than $5.00 to fill it up at the station. LOL.
Very very cool! Subaru definitely thought outside the box even in the 1960's and 1970's!
So much swag in such a little van
I really enjoyed your video....awesome van, great music, and witty commentary. Thanks!
The runway comment made me laugh. I just imported a Nissan PAO. I have to get a really good running start every time when I see a hill coming up and I have two cylinders and about 400cc's more than you. Your car is in great shape, I guess that's why that guy thought it was new haha

Nice lotus you got there. Something's I found really funny is when you parked next to the Lincoln continental. That was great.
Am shocked you can even get it to 60 miles an hour with an engine so small. Thanks on a reply. It sure is a one of a kind van for sure.
I am very nostalgic! I was running a lot in Japan when Iwas a child. Even now, I was impressed by the appearance of running overseas!
This is super cool! I used to have a 360 pickup. Wish I still did.
One of my cousins had the truck version of this, back in the mid 70's. Talk about NO leg room. I sat in that truck with my knees under my chin the whole time!
I can't fit inside the truck version. My knees hit the dashboard. For some reason the van has more legroom.
Really. Good to know. Thanks! =)
Subaru 360 van, woooow congratulation. 😎😎😎
I need one of those in my life RIGHT NOW! TOO COOL! I was a year old when it was built. It's in far better condition than I am! Love it and I salute you Sir!
I owned an almost identical Subaru Sambar Delux when I was stationed in Okinawa back in 1975-76. Fun little vehicle.
私はスバルの工場の近くに住んでいます。
こんな調子のいいスバルバスは、初めて見ました。
素晴らしい。
WOW! I missed SAMBAR!
Have a nice U.S. trip, SAMBAR!!
This was really awesome, nice camera rig, good shooting and sound, the wind noise was minimal, great overview of the drive. Nice work. 5 stars!
awwwww........so cute!!! Let's all give it a hug!!
I drove one round trip from SF to St. Louis in the mid- 70's with my dog Jack. I put a bed in the back and slept with my feet sticking out the back end. Those were the days!
isha48 how fun !
Cool
These days mosquitos and whatever they carry would get at the feet if doing that lol zika west nile etc 🤣
That is hilarious. All those revs and you're still going slower than an olympic runner! With that said, I want one of these little vans!
I really liked your video and espacially your comments ! Funny as hell! Thanks for posting this and cute subaru!!!
This is just awesome!!! Imagine for a second this van rocking 1 liter sportbike engine))) That would be catastrophically insane!
日本でもすごく稀にこのバンタイプが走っています。とても小さく可愛い車です。子供の頃はsubaru 360 tentoumushiに家族で乗ってました。
CHASE DAT VIPER! I love the lines of that van for some reason though :)
Go little cutie go! If you made it until now, then you ought to live forever, including your little stinker engine.
This van is the same size as my 95 Saturn. Epic!
It's much smaller actually...only 10 feet long. Your Saturn is at least 4 feet longer!
Yo! That was rhino records at 6:06 I love that place. I looked this video up kuz I found a 84 on offer up for about 6k and if I had the money I would get it sadly I don’t. Awesome lil micro bus 👍
Great car, great video. I love it. Thank you for uploading.
I remember those. I had a Honda 600 then. She'd top out at 75. 600 2 cylinder 4 stroke. The 4 speed was a crash box.
I'd prefer to call it the worlds most industrious garage
Wow thanks on a reply on the top speed. fully loaded would get you 25 up hill in some places here in Colorado.
Had a coworker years ago that drove a Subaru 360. Thought it made the most God-awful noise at the time but now I get it. It was cheap and reliable for her suburban LA commute.
Nice combination, the Subaru Van and the Lotus
キュートな実用車と走る楽しさの車。
それは最高の組み合わせです。
Thanks for the suggestion of your video!
We are making Rutledges as fun as possible
The little bus that could!
bad ass music made it look like mark danger was heading out to rob a bank in this cool minivan
Oh I love this car!
"Living in a box"! Nice car and video!
"... - living" ;)
Now that's a mini van and if it break's down you just put in your backpack ...
That is such a neat little van, We don't have anything cool like micro cars here in Michigan been looking to restore or buy something like them here but no luck so far. Thanks for showing.
***** Smart Fortwo :D
I had a 1971 Corolla wagon with a 1200cc 4stroke, it was high compression with a progressive 2bbl carb, fun but still underpowered. I wish I still had it.
What interesting little vehicle!
you sir, are living my dream
The coolest van I´ve ever seen, should be in Petrolicious
Diego El Manya gvgğy
When did you see it?...I see all the other motorcars...
o wow great vid. thanks for posting
エンジンの調子も良いみたいですね。スバル360VAN!カッコイイです。
I now feel less trepidation about taking my Datsun B210 on the freeway for the first time once I get her running.
This is awesome! I also recognized the area shown in the vid, I'm from Upland. Hopefully I'll see you cruising the road in this van
Friend and I laughed ourselves silly. Thanks for sharing.
That van could fit perfectly inside my closet vertically...pfft who need a garage.
Nice Sound of the two stroke motor
That's a cool little van. You should put a big stereo system in it.
I want one of these now, put a hayabusa motor in it and it will keep up with anything lol
Great vid! Also was surprised to see Claremont featured. My friend lives there and was thinking"Hey! That looks like Claremont" Sure enuff it was.
Thanks for posting.
With that camera pole... I'm sure you went "back to the future". ;)
Dude, he said the top speed on level ground was 60mph and if you know anything about science the vehicle has to travel 88mph and needs to be struck by lightening roughly 1.21 gigawatts of electricity in order to power the flux capacitor......
Chef4life79 Pls don't ignore the backwind effect. For a two stroke brick-on-wheels [where the cv value is n>bignumberhere] anything is possible.
The life of an antenna ball is now complete~
It's so weird to see a van that sounds like a two-stroke dirtbike.
Just dont hit anything head on! Cool ride
with air cooled RR layout like 911, It was called half cynically Farmland (not Ferdinand) Porsche in Japan. It was a great little work horse which I used to carry hay and farm supplies. I can not believe that you did Freeway with 360cc.
Sweet looking van. I've heard of the Subaru Sambar 360, but I've never seen a Subaru van before. I did get to see a couple of Sambar trucks.
I love it, didnt even know such a thing existed!
Loved it. Wonderful video of an often-missed Japanese car. I'm a Subaru fan for live, but I don't think I'd sacrifice my Forester for this. Still and all, great tongue-in-cheek humor and loads of fun.
Life not LIVE!
Great video and comments. At least your girlfriend gets in it, my wife won't ride in my cars if she can help it .( I have a Panhard and a Bond 875 )
What a well-preserved Subaru van! I'm in the IE, would like to see this van in person.
I drive it pretty often in the Claremont/Pomona/La Verne area. Honk if you see me!
I took one of these for a twenty mile ride in 1982. By around 2005 I was pretty much back to normal....now, I can hardly feel it.
Love the stick shift.
Big carb, tight squish, some chambers on it and bring it to life 😂 love it. Best van ever.
wow, nice mini car
The little soo-bar-oooo. WOW.
I had one just like it. Lots of fun!
I remember it was an air cooled two cycle. Whether it was a boxer never occurred to me. You pulled like 3G's on that last ramp!
i enjoyed the video and virtual ride:)
Awesome, I'd love to have one.
Nice mini wagon
Thats a real mini van
1971- Santa Barbara- A 360 pick up pulled in to a Chevron Station and the mechanic yelled " How many miles before you have to change the rubber bands in that thing?" The driver was a friend of his and they both laughed. The good 'ol days.....
