Owned a 2001 for 8 years and loved it. Sold it because it was just too fast for my old azz. Only issue I ever had was replacing a 16” piece of brake line at the front calibers. $200 for the piece. Replaced all the lines with stainless steel after that. Great bike. A bit top-heavy tooling around town but a dream on the highway.
I also have this bike and I do absolutely love it. It is a bit heavy but it really does not feel like this at all when you ride it. It really is nimble and it is like sitting on a couch. I have never guessed how fast this bike can be when I first saw it and it also does not need many things to take care of and it is totally reliable and is not thirsty at all. For me, it is the perfect touring bike.
You made an excellent choice. I keep looking for a newer model that comes close to this bike's performance and price. I haven't seen one yet. Enjoy yours.
@@lifetimeadventures9107 As far as I know the K1200RS production has been stopped as 2006 if I do remember correctly. (at least it was the newest model line). I think they have made the last real changes 2002 when they already stopped to have 2 Versions from Power and the newest models since 2002 have the more reliable Engine, 131 HP overall and the newer Battery and Lights. If Wikipedia is right the best and most modern ones are between 2002 and 2006. BMW has newer Tourers but they will mostly have a Boxer Engine (I only like 4 Cylinder Engines because the Boxers sound strange for me. I think the Strongest one would be the K1300S but this is much more "long" at the Tank so it is a really "Laying" Position bike and since I am not the biggest Girl it is way to long for me.
I always called these the cruise missile. Working for a couple BMW bike dealers I was quite familiar with these as we sold and serviced many of them. Quite a machine, the front suspension is something that should have been pointed out. They also made a GT version with a little more weather protection in the bodywork. A real beast of a bike, very easy to ride a little over the speed limit.
Have my 2002 since '05 and still in love with it. I'm almost 65yo and not slowing up any time soon. It had 9500mi when I bought it and it has 108,000 now. I was just out this afternoon in the garage still fine tuning some touring goodies. I pull a Unigo cargo trailer for camping and back when I bought the trailer a Rhinewest chip and cam sprocket were installed for better low-mid torque, bitch pull like a mule. I was really sad when BMW decided to shelf this flat in-line four and that put the whammy on me and would never buy another BMW unless it's a boxer. There's a Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 in my future for local running around and day trips but the Black Mule will remain in the stable for the NC to OH runs...
I had one of these, a 2000 model year. Overall, the bike was a good sport touring bike, with the emphasis on touring. The only significant problem, one shared with the K1200GT, was the main bearing in the final drive. The bearing failed and had to be replaced. The first time, the repair lasted a very short time before another failure. The second time, with help from BMW Germany who supplied the proper positioning jig and specialized knowledge, the repair was a permanent fix. Other than that, I put about 106,000 km on the bike. With Ohlins shocks, the bike gave me a very supple and smooth ride. On long, high-speed turns, that bike was like a train on rails. On a twisty road, it was not the fastest, but it was enjoyable. I found that if the riders were equal in skill, an R1200RT would be faster on a twisty road course. And of course, fuel range was somewhat limited.
I recently sold the K1200 RS and now ride the R1200RS. I will be posting a video soon. The K1200RS is a great bike But after riding the R1200RS there was no going back.
Where are you in RI? I'm in Franklin, MA. 1998 BMW K1200RS. Great on the highway, espdcially compared to a 1996 Honda 900 CBR I had 15 years ago. I've only had the BMW a few months. ART
It is The RAM mounting system. I am not sure if they still offer the clutch / brake reservoir ball mount that held the articulating extended clamp to the spring loaded phone holder. All the parts were purchased online from Amazon and Ebay.

How does the gt version compares to the lt version?
@@1LifeAdvs More wind protection mostly, I believe the bars may have been a little taller and has a larger windscreen.
If you can find a GT version I would recommend that one. Much better wind protection and most have all the options on them.
@@lifetimeadventures9107 I'm leaning towards the GTs. I like the look much better too.
@@1LifeAdvs there was a real nice GT listed on FaceBook Market place a month ago. It had low milage and all options in NY.
I have a 2004 white/blue 27.000 miles. Delightful to ride!
I have recently sold the K1200RS. I purchased a 2016 BMW R1200 RS and it is a great performing bike. I will be posting a video of it soon.
Nice piece of driving. I'm considering this bike myself.
Thanks for watching . You can find this model in a low price range. A lot of big for less than &4000 !

Where do you get the cell phone golfer? Can't find a decent one in Belgium our Germany.
it is a Ram mount product and cam be found on Amazon. It does not prevent vibrations from harming the camera on the phone so I do not use it any more.

I have the K1200rs Williams version. Most young guy with japanese sport bikes think they were faster 😃😃on the autobahn they only see my ass

That engine, with proper routine maintenance will give you 500,000 miles.
In that case this bike is just getting broken in at 33k... thanks for watching
@@lifetimeadventures9107 At 33,000 miles, you are correct. Use good synthetic 10w40, Redline,Motul, Amsoil, or Royal Purple.
@@graycloud057 If you use synthetic oils the oil gets past the main seal and makes the clutch slip. Changing the clutch is a big job.
