I take my R1200RS to demo ride a BMW R1300GS at MAX BMW. “Is it the best GS?”
In this video I am riding my 2016 BMW R1200RS to MAX BMW for a chance to ride the "AII NEW" for 2024 BMW R1300GS. The R 1300GS may look similar to the R1250 GS , however, after reading the specs and getting information from the salesman at MAX BMW, I learned that this bike is all new from the ground up. After a short ride it is definitely evident that this bike is a game changer for the big adventure bike market. To the question of whether it’s the best GS yet? As far as power, comfort, new technology along with ease of operation, my answer is a definite, “YES”. I still haven’t decided if I would trade my R1200 RS for the R1300 GS. I "personally" can do without all the electronic add-ons and "in my opinion", find that my R1200 RS performs just as well as the new BMW R1300 GS on "paved" roads. Still, it is a very appealing motorcycle both in appearance and technological improvements. There are many reviews that you can find on the internet to get more opinions about the bike, however, I think the best review is for the potential buyer to arrange for a test ride at a trusted local dealer like MAX BMW. In my opinion you can't go wrong with a BMW.
Here are the specs for the 2024 R1300 GS

    For the job of ''many miles, comfortably'' I chose the v85. The new stelvio is nice, but i'd rather it in a Norge or Griso. I don't need that engine in a utilitarian mile muncher ADV.

      @@brentharrington9235 Brent I tend to agree with you. I think myV 85. Moto Guzzi delivers a very comfortable ride with ample performance. The Stelvio has some great attributes and is a comfortable ride also based on the limited time that I had on the demo motorcycle. I thought it was a very well-made motorcycle. It will be difficult for a potential buyer to make a choice as to which one they would prefer because they are very close with the exception of the water cooled motor with more horsepower. If pricing is a consideration, the V85TT is definitely a better deal. Thank you for your comment and for watching @lifetimeadventures9107

      @@giulianoMX You made a nice choice with the 900 Triumph Scrambler. I like that model more than the 1200cc. Here is the link to the stand that I use on my Thruxton. It is a good quality and is adjustable for the width of the swing arm. Apextreme Motorcycle Stand 750LB... www.amazon.com/dp/B088K4WRJV?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share You will need some spool bobbins for the paddock stand to attach to, unless the bike came with them. You can purchase them on Amazon also. It is handy to have the stand for doing work on your rear wheel, chain tightening, changing oil and it is a must have if you do your own maintenance. Thanks for contacting me and for watching the video. My next video will be released this weekend of a ride on my 2016 R1200RS BMW to test ride the new 2024 R1300GS at MAX BMW in South Windsor, CT. Happy riding adventures on your Triumph scrambler.

    Does the Tune ECU APP work with the UniCarScan UCSI-2100 Bluetooth OBD2 connector on Triumph or you have to have the NEXAS NexLink OBD2?

    • @lifetimeadventures9107
      @lifetimeadventures9107 9 днів тому

      @@SorkenBruno Hello, thank you for your comment and question. The OBD receptacle connector, like the NEXAS that I used, just serves as a linking device to the app and the device that it is operating on. There are OBD2 to usb cables that you can purchase to connect with. I found that the Bluetooth connector is the simplest choice for me. I would think that almost any Bluetooth OBD2 Style connector would be able to interact with the ECU app. I have not tried any other connectors yet, but I am sure that the NexLink works. It’s a good idea to check what Bluetooth version that the linking device, that you are considering, is programmed with the most recent Bluetooth version so as to be compatible with the device the app is on. I have found that most dealers may reset your mileage reminder light without a charge,if you have a good relationship with them. But you still have to bring it there and take time to wait for them to accomplish the task and sometimes may have to leave the motorcycle for that to be done and that effort is valuable time you use. Remember that we all have a limited amount of time in life to use. I hope this helps you in someway to decide how you would like to proceed. Thanks for watching the videos. They’ll be more content on the way.

    A few years ago, I had a 1400 California. The bike had 500 miles when I bought it. It had a bit of an abruptness problem under 3,000 RPM. I tried this device and was very satisfied. MPG didn't change. It just got much smoother and more controlable. I then bought a 2020 V85 in 2019 when brand new and it always ran perfectly. Now have a 1400 bought with 18,000 miles and the fueling was and continues to be just fine on it. They take a long time to break in.

Perhaps you can tell from that comment, I am an older chap, not a motorcyclist, who still rides and enjoys his Raleigh push-bike (a.k.a. as pedal cycle). Still, the technology is very interesting. I guess, too, that the radar will be at its life-saving best in conditions of poor or zero visibility.

    Why did you choose same tyres

    • @lifetimeadventures9107
      @lifetimeadventures9107 16 днів тому

      The Pirelli Phantom tire performs well while gripping the road and giving a comfortable ride. I’ve used them on other motorcycles in the past and was satisfied with the way they made the bike handle along with the high mileage use that I got from the tires. I have used Perelli tires on Triumph cars that I owned in the past and was satisfied with the performance on the sports cars also. So I decided to stick with something that was working well for me. They are a little pricey, but I believe you get what you pay for most of the time. I have used other brands of tires and was satisfied with them like Michelin, Goodyear and Bridgestone One brand that I did not find satisfactory was Metzler. They tended to wear out quickly and unevenly and required replacement due to the chattering effect of having the tread irregularly wearing. Feel free to respond with any more questions or comments that I may be able to help you with. Happy riding adventures.

    Now have 18,000 miles on my 2017 RS - "different shaft/gearbox and some updates from the 2015/16 models but honestly I couldn't tell any difference when swopping my 2015 RS for this bike. I did get 'lucky' this year, part of a drive shaft 'check' - "not a recall!" and the shaft was stuck to the bevel unit and the gearbox output shaft. Result was everything removed, overhauled, new bevel drive unit, new shaft and all rubber gaters, clips and free fitting costs. Well worth the gamble - IF nothing found I would need to pay from drive shaft re-grease - it is now part of the 12k service - you get a new page to put in the owners manual and service history updates page. Bike has been as good as yours seems to be and for me it is a better choice for road use than so many GS that only see tarmac.

    Still have my 2017 RS SE, also in the correct blue colour - plus we get the front DRL strip here in uk. Did fit an aftermarket 1 inch taller satnav bracket and the aus/nz rear mudguard - it's wider and stops lots of rubbish coming off the wheel and covering the rear light. The avantguard covers the engine front to also protect the original finnish but also seems to deflect plenty of water away from the underside of the bike. Must admit your engine does sound better than my original chrome unit, more like the 2017 R1200S I owned with its underseat unit. I did get the taller sports seat which aids long distance touring, more leg room.

Realizing that everyone has different preferences for how the bike should look and I do think the bike has a cleaner look without the luggage, however, I don’t notice it when I’m driving down country roads enjoying maneuvering in the tight corners. The added convenience of having needed items and riding gear with you, I think outweighs any perceived negative aesthetics in the appearance of the bike. May you have happy and safe motorcycle adventures. Thank you for commenting.

The stock seat is comfortable and doesn’t cramp your riding comfort. A medium 5’5”-6’ build person will find that the Ducati will fit perfectly. There are no luggage options other than aftermarket soft bags or actop of the tank clip on tank bag, neither which I have. I use an aerodynamic back pack when needed, to bring belongings along. My rides range anywhere from 50 to 250 miles, and I have found that those longer distances can create some discomfort towards the end of the mileage, which may be due to my physical abilities rather than the motorcycle. Keep in mind that the monster acts like one and does rumble and roar and with some vibrations, but not to the point that they are really annoying or tiring. I haven’t had the option to ride one of the newer monsters, so this perspective is based on the last air cooled version which I own. So, when you get engine hot then you should feel difference where lean mixture do problems... ------ I just got V-Boost from Mistral. What a disappointment for 150€! If I had just known what it will be in the box! There is no "device," just two connectors with a few wires and a simple temperature sensor. Toooo expensive! So, lets dive into what does V-Boost actually do? Basically, it works as a secondary air temperature sensor (ATS) placed in a cooler location. It acts as kinda interceptor for the original IATS data traveling to the ECU (see pic). V-Boost intercepts it and sends forward cooler data. V-Boost targets the fuel mixture related to air temperature. It benefits air-cooled machines that undergo ECU liposuction to comply with emission standards. V-Boost is a good medicine for potential knocking and for situations described below in points 9-12. Don't expect other performance improvements; any other possible or "feels like" improvements are just collateral. Here are a few basic facts supporting this theory (by HPAcademy.com) 1. One of the most critical parameters we need to measure to do this is the intake air temperature monitored by an intake air temp sensor or IAT sensor for short. 2. As the air temperature changes, so does the air density. 3. Hot air has a lower density, and contains less oxygen hence, less fuel is needed to maintain a constant air/fuel ratio. 4. On the other hand, cold air is denser, containing more oxygen and thus requiring additional fuel. 5. The intake air temp sensor provides air temperature information to the ECU, which can then be referenced by compensation tables 6. Where the intake air temp sensor is mounted is also important in order to give the ECU a realistic measure of the actual temperature of the air entering the engine. 7. Often intake air temp sensors are fitted into the intake manifold which might sound ideal, but in my own experience, this can actually create a few problems 8. While at high air flow values, the sensor will give an accurate measure of the true inlet charge temperature 9. The intake manifold can also be prone to heat soaking at low speed or when the engine is shut off. 10. This results in excessively high readings on a hot restart or when idling in traffic. 11. In this situation, the intake air temperature sensor is being influenced by the heat of the intake manifold rather than the actual temperature of the air and this affects the accuracy of the air/fuel ratio 12. The common result is an engine that runs excessively lean and responds erratically for a few minutes after a hot restart. 13. I personally (author) find the best compromise is to fit the intake air temperature sensor into the intake pipe just before the throttle body (Mistrals sends it further away - under seat) In very simplified terms, with V-Boost, the engine runs as with classic DellOrtos, where there aren't any on-spot corrections regarding air density, e.g., temperature - it's just a constant flood with a rich mixture, which helps with engine cooling (contrary to popular opinion - gasoline play role as a coolant also). Anyway, I think that V-Boost is a pretty clever idea for air-cooling engines! I think the competition green with the gold Striping and Triumph logo give the bike a very classic appearance. Kind of what a custom bike would look like in the past. The Final Edition is very unique as it comes with authenticating documentation and a special engine plate that can be mounted on the bike or displayed in a frame. That said, I really do like the final edition livery more than the custom competition green with silver that I ride. I’m very fond of the British racing green color and have owned several vehicles with that color including a 1971 Jaguar XKE. No matter what color you choose, the ultimate experience is riding a Thruxton for its performance, not just for the appearance. Good luck finding one….. there may be still some available somewhere in this country, if not, there are other 2023 RS models that are still available in the showroom. I don’t have any experience with the mistrial Exhaust, but I am sure there are some videos that will give you an insight as to whether you’d like that type of system. @lifetimeadventures9107 3 місяці тому

      Hello Dante, I’ve had Michelin, Metzler, Bridgestone, Dunlop, and Perelli tires on my sports cars and motorcycles over the years. The Perelli‘s are a performance tire with a combination of rubber compounds that make them the best handling that also gives a smooth ride. In the past, the technology for a combining rubber compounds was not as advanced as it is now. Back then the Perelli tires didn’t have a high mileage capability. Jump forward to today and the technology has allowed for a combination of materials that not only gives high-performance but extended mileage during use. Michelin makes a good tire but there are factors that can influence how the tire performs . Under inflating and over inflating can cause distortion in the tread and gives a poor ride. It’s a good idea to check your tire pressure each time before riding your bike. Extended wear on the tires will also reduce performance and could be dangerous in high-speed cornering and breaking. I don’t try to get the total mileage out of my tires because I like to have fresh rubber under me, I will replace them when they are worn down to 30 to 40% or over five years old. I have a number of motorcycles to choose to ride so most of the time they get replaced because of age and not wear. I hope these words give you some insight as to which tires are best for you. • @lifetimeadventures9107
      @lifetimeadventures9107 4 місяці тому

      I believe the answer would be yes, but it’s very easy to remove. Most of the effort putting the fairing on is rearranging the wiring and directional signals, and putting on the under frame that holds the fairing to the motorcycle. Once that’s all done, removing the fairing is as simple as unscrewing a few allen head bolts up near the windscreen and a couple under the headlight. After that, you can access the headlight internals by simply unscrewing the fastening screw on the side of the bezel, and there you are in full access to all the wires and headlight bulb. I would think that it would be very rare that you’d have to open the headlight up for maintenance. Thanks for your question and your comment and for watching the video. Enjoy your riding experiences.

      David, it sounds like you have very unique collection of motorcycles. I’m envious of the Norton machine. I had a chance to ride a commando years back and it will forever live in my memory of the performance and handling of that bike. The Thruxton comes close and with all the modern touches, it is a very sweet ride and I’m sure you’ll enjoy the final edition model. Enjoy this riding season coming up and go on some fun adventures. Thanks for your comments and input.

    I’m planning on getting a Thruxton soon- maybe this very color. I like both looks- with and without fairing. Seems like it would be a bit too much work to go back and forth? Maybe just twice a year for summer and winter?

      I don’t think that you’ll be disappointed owning a Thruxton. I find that I use the Thruxton most often amongst all my motorcycles that I ride. The fairing installation is not that complicated and like I said in the video it can be changed to the original configuration in about an hour. Since I have installed the dolphin fairing, I feel as though I will not be removing it because I enjoy the wind protection and the appearance. I recently equipped the Thruxton with a Triumph tank bag and find it to be very useful. I intend to publish a video review of the tank bag and again the panniers with some extra mounting hardware tips that will prevent the bags from detaching accidentally. Thank you for watching the video and checking out my channel. May you have many hours of happy riding adventures ahead.

      @@lifetimeadventures9107 Thank you sir! Yes it looks so good with the fairing I may never want to take it off. Knowing me, I’ll be lazy and just have the dealer install/uninstall it for me during services.
